As mentioned by others, the real goal is a crowd-focused recipe. Feel free to sway opinions with facts, passion, or whatever works as voters are allowed to change their vote (I have certainly done this in past Averagely's). VikeMan will let the crowd add spruce tips to the recipe if that's what the majority wants.

For any brewer who wants to learn recipe formulation this is a pretty good exercise. Does it create an award winning recipe? Maybe . . . or maybe not. Also, expect a healthy exposure to statistics . . . we are starting off with a simple multimodal distribution, but expect it to get complicated'er.

@PortLargo you crack me up. I for one would like to see a t test or chi squared against the APA IPA for each category we vote on :grimacing:.

And I could not agree more. This is not about how this brewery or that brewery does things. It is basically 25-30 people who frequent this forum voting on how they would approach a particular portion of the recipe formulation to produce the desired effect. From that we get an average approach. Possibly learn something too.

In the case of the APA IPA I brewed in a way I would not have otherwise and it was damn tasty. I thought it was ironic how an average (possibly pedestrian?) recipe produced such a good beer. I should rebrew that.

Just for the newcomers to this exercise in crowd sourced recipes... all three of the past APA recipes have made award winning recipes

I don't think water chemistry plays as big of a role as people are claiming...

Me too! With all that's been speculated online, @VikeMan , make sure you include the following as possible ingredient choices for the poll:

    -White wheat
    -Flour
    -New England white birch sawdust
    -Pixie dust
    -Unicorn poop

I'm not sure my LHBS carries Unicorn Poop, what is a good substitute for that if I can't get it locally? Does one of the online HBS sell it? I hope the shipping isn't too expensive on that one.

Unicorn blood added at vorlauf is an acceptable substitution.

How much? IF I am able to track down a Unicorn it may just be easier to scare some shit out of it than to capture it and bleed it.

2% of the grist is fine, but by Harry potter rules any one who kills a unicorn is cursed soooooo......

I've heard leprechaun poop could be used, but you have to triple the amount.

Edit: I found this. We will need to standardize amounts and moisture content to be repeatable though. https://www.etsy.com/listing/177603...3dce72287c74&gclid=CMWMlbyC0MwCFQcMaQodgWMP5Q

One thing you *DON'T* want to consider is to use anything derived from or obtained from a Pukwudgie:

This is a great idea! If the recipe is ready in time, I'll probably make this my next IPA.

Voted 6.9%, but in my heart it was 7.

If Unicorns are like horses you will have absolutely no problem locating the poop.

The 'trick' is locating the Unicorn!

You can do that with any beer as long as you have 3 or more glasses for serving in... see...
