No. 37 Avery Ruminate a 11.6% dubbel aged in rum barrels with orange zest will be released at the brewery on May 22nd.

Sounds interesting. Xolotl for early June then? They're really cranking them out with the new brewery. Impressive pace.

    13.7% alc/vol | 780 cases | bottled May 19, 2016

We’ve been thinking long and hard about one of our all-time favorites and how to put our personal lil twist on it. Or is this a big twist? Hmmm. We’ll have to think, and drink, on that one.

Bottle sales begin at 11am with a limit of 1 case per person. Sunday, May 22.

After the brewery release, bottles will make their way around CA, CO, DC, GA, IL, KY, MA, MN, NC, NY, OK, PA, TX, VA, and WI.

Finally, I'm getting burnt on all of their 17+% stouts. I'm glad they finally decided to rein in one of them to a more "manageable" ABV.

Is the May 22nd release event a two-night sleepover at Avery? It looks like they're releasing the beer two days before it's even bottled! Magic!!

Look at the date on the label posted above. The bottling date is two days after the release date.

that label is also off on ABV, so its safe to say its an older one before they set the date.

I was incorrect, looks like they're sitting on Ruminate a little longer.

Does anyone know if Xolotl had landed in the metro area yet?

I haven't seen any sightings yet. The Avery BA Series shipments seem to be slower and slower lately. Used see them on shelves 2-3 days after the release, now it's more like a week or 3 later.

How does it compare to Huna or Abraxas?

I thought Xolotl was pretty good. I'm a fan of Mayan Goddess, but it's not my favorite Mexican chocolate stout beer.
I've never had Huna, but I have had Abraxas and BA Abraxas. I find Abraxas to be a better base beer than Mayan Goddess, the body is more solid with the spicing a little stronger, which I like. Not Copper Kettle strong, but still more. The barrel presence being comparable in strength and quality, the better base of Abraxas elevates it above Xolotl. But availability is one heck of a taste booster. It's been a couple of years since I've had the BA Abraxas so this may be skewed.

Hard to say, I've only had each of those two or three times, and not recently. I've had Mayan Goddess too, though not recently either. I recall the spice being a little more prominent (which I like, similar to @Jasonrm72 ) in MG, Huna, and Abraxas. I'm still learning, but maybe that's just bc of the barrel-aging? Now that I think about it, the BA CK mexican chocolate had much less spice than I would have expected...

Back to Xolotl, good barrel nose, but not much barrel taste initially. The more it warmed, the more barrel (and spice) I got. That said, the vanilla was very prominent for me.

Would definitely recommend. I plan to buy several more fur sure.

I'm just hoping for lots of cinnamon flavor. I love cinnamon!
