If you work 9-5 probably go back home and relax a bit then go for at least 30mns walk. Ideally one hour preferably in the countryside. A forest maybe. If you live in a city the walk in the park helps too. Obviously not everyone is an early bird and can run 10 miles before work. Depend how you live.

I said walk because its easier. Running and cycling is pretty fine too. Or swimming since we are closer to the summer.

By no mean you should get wasted to help sleep though. A beer or two before sleep is fine. More will worsen your insomnia.

Same here. I cranked up my exercise regiment and exercised regularly (every other day) and it went away (before that my exercise was very irregular).

Good advice (I hardly ever drink close to sleep time).

Its in a town called grenville halfway inbetween Montreal and Ottawa. If your curious look up Hawkesbury Ontario on google maps and you'll see what i mean about the bridge into Quebec.

If your down this way Depaneur Peluso is a good stop in Montreal and has the most. and if your in Ottawa there's brouehaha in gatineau. So this place only makes sense as a stop if your in between Montreal and Ottawa XD. The reason I say they're in a great place is they fill a 2 hour gap with nothing but a couple breweries. The breweries are fun but dont really have a product selection because they only sell their beers XD.

I think there may be something to the impact of too much beer close to bed time. Now that I think about it, twice a year I have to get a bunch of medical tests and have to refrain from drinking for ten days or more. I have found that a few days into this, I sleep a whole lot better.

Agreed 100%. I can't drink late into the evening before bed or I won't sleep well at all. That's why I start and finish early in the day.:grimacing::wink:

Have you analyzed when the insomnia occurs...looked for patterns/trends? In my case, I can't get my brain to shut down...thinking about something, etc. What I've learned to do over the years is to narrow my mental focus by concentrating on something (it takes a bit of brain training, since I have to reject any and all tangential thoughts). A fairly easy one is to imagine black...growing blacker and blacker. Just the shade visualized in your mind...and absolutely nothing else. Good luck!

Thanks. It reminded me of my dad's drinking routine. He was a federal firefighter who worked every other day. 24 on. 24 off. The firehouse had a kitchen and sleeping quarters.

Anyway, he would get off work at 7:00 A.M. and would do his beer drinking during the day stopping around 5:00 P.M. He had to be at the firehouse the next day at 7:00 A.M. The routine must have worked because I never heard him mention any sleeping problems. After 35 years he retired but continued the same drinking routine.
