I can only wish that there is some semblance of truth in this article. Phenols in red wine are supposedly good for the heart so we'll see about the benefits of beer with more accurate and dated info to compare.

hard to get solid info when there is opposing interests funding studies to produce different outcomes, but I will say this.

Beer has been consumed by humans for a very long time, and seems to benefit people in moderation. I would recommend a beer over no beer. Look at what happened when parents stopped giving kids peanuts over the last decade an epidemic of peanut allergies.

-shrugs- It reduces stress and sometimes that is the best effect it could have. A beer or two can relax away the stress of a long workday and that in itself has a whole host of health benefits.

    Beat me to it.

Im hardly a scientist but almost every alcohol and as goes the saying "in moderation" reduce the risk of heart attack. That include whiskey.

Also it makes me (us) much nicer people to deal with and ultimately better than any tranquilizers and downers.

Don't worry Rback, I consume my fair share of the brew and will gladly keep the other patrons healthy if need be. As has been said before beer has been around for quite some time and as we know can make for happy times when done in moderation. Just checking out more sources to confirm what most of us believe the benefits are and what they have to say about the positive effects of beer on our health. Can't wait to show the doc those sources on my next physical just to keep him in the know.

I agree. I'm not a doctor (at least not a medical one, though I have played one on TV) but I do believe that stress is likely much more harmful to our well being than alcohol (in moderation; too much is definitely bad for you).

Not a medical person either but Ok, it's not after 5, but it is after 2 a day, for real. (And that's two at about 5% ABV.)
