I know nothing about the "science" behind all this and am in no position to question that aspect of it, but is this graph really saying that a beer stored at 60 degrees for one day displays a pronounced stale character? I'm assuming I am interpreting that wrong.

I would take it more as a relative thing. Oxidation happens at different rates at different temperatures and this is basically showing that.

Yeah, I can get that concept and don't disagree with it, and I don't think most of us needed that chart to tell us that. It's just that if that chart is saying a beer experiences PRONOUNCED stale character after 1 day, then I have to wonder how that was concluded.

    Check this:

"The kinetics of beer ageing were studied based on the development of beer stale flavour with storage time. Results showed that the beer ageing rates at 50 and 60°C were 30.0 and 56 times as fast as those at room temperature, respectively."

Yes, but that is 60 degrees C which is 140 degrees F.

    Cheers!

Doh! There's that science stuff I'm not so good at! Can't we get an American version of the graph?! :flushed:

Much of science is conducted using the metric system.

This may be before your time but during the 1970's the US government attempted to get the US consistent with the rest of the world and utilize the metric system. Needless to say this effort had to be abandoned.

    Cheers!

“This, according to the CIA Factbook, makes the United States one of only three countries as of 2007, with Myanmar (Burma) and Liberia, that have not adopted the metric system as their official system of weights and measures.”

    Some ‘interesting’ company there!?!

    Cheers!

I spent about an hour on the phone with Goose Island again today. I again offered to send them some of the 21OCT15 bottles from Florida that seem to most consistently be the worst infected/"exhibiting off flavors"

I was basically told that there was "no need" and that "the brew masters are aware of the issue and have decided they will not be doing refunds"

After further pushing on my part and asking why GI was not going to stand behind their product if they are, in their own words, "aware of the issue"...the customer service rep'a supervisor offered to take down my information and keep it "in case the company changes its mind and decides to offer refunds or exchanges for UNOPENED Bourbon County" (caps are my emphasis)

The customer service rep did use the word "infection" and repeatedly acknowledged that there was a "known issue" with regular BCBS but repeatedly emphasized that they were not offering refunds or exchanges.

Cheers to you for all of your effort on this! Wow, they spent an hour on the phone with you. Up to this point aside from miscues on shirts and refund amounts I think they handled it well, but if they don't offer refunds on BCBS that is pretty pathetic.

Funny, I called them earlier this afternoon to report what I believe was a bad/off/infected bottle of Regal I opened last night. At first the woman was professional and polite but clearly said there wasn't anything she could do to compensate me. I could be reading too much into our conversation and her tone but it seemed I said enough after awhile to convince her I wasn't fishing for a refund that she eventually asked for my name and then to confirm my address, phone number and email address (from when I'd earlier provided that information while seeking a refund for BCBBW and BCBCS bottles). She also said that Goose was aware of an issue but is still determining what if anything to do about it.

i'm not going to wish them ill fate etc. i think they should at least try to work something out where folks can bring intact product back, perhaps through distribution (?) that way they aren't forced to pay / compensate for beer folks already drank.

all that said, if what he said is correct, at least they are finally admitting the I word & this isn't just "off flavor" bullshit. everybody that's been reaching for it's just oxidized, the issues might be completely separate/unreleated etc. can get back to reality & digesting the overwhelming evidence that's been staring us down for months now.

That's all I'd really be looking for...refund or credit or anything in exchange for my unopened bottles.

It's worth noting that the customer service people I talked to today were very polite and professional and as helpful as they could be (considering they are probably not allowed to offer anyone anything right now for BCBS "issues").

    abv?

All the the 13.7% examples I've had were phenomenal. Only some of the 14.3% versions have been great.

I want to preface this by saying this is far from a reputable source. But did anyone else see on Untappd recently that someone mentioned Rare '15 starting to turn? Tart cherry was mentioned. As I've said, many people are specifically out looking for this, and it can alter perception to a degree, so one/a couple random check-ins should be taken with a grain of salt. (Of course, the problem is very real, there is no denying that, but I am curious to know whether or not Rare has been compromised, because it's a completely different year, which would give us indicators on the origin of the issue) Also, if this turns out to be true, get ready to get fired into the sun, GI.

    "Tart Cherry?"
    "Yep tart cherry"

A second comment regarding the beer:

"Has a slight funk on the finish"

I just wanted to add this to the information. Take it for what you will

pretty well concluded the differing base year likely doesn't matter.

i can't speak for other areas, but in mine, i know sales reps were out hand delivering Rare & Regal cases to stores the weeks following BF. IOW, those cases (around here) traveled much more like the conclusion we guessed on kegs. much less on regular delivery trucks, none in stores weeks in advance, like the other variants, with stipulations to hold til BF (& possibly in storage conditions less than ideal under those waiting periods), + wooden boxes = zero light, possibly some additional protection/shield against direct heat.
