Good evening NBS, hope everyone is enjoying the end of the weekend once again. Thanks to @cavedave for getting us rolling along this morning. I finally got my hitch yesterday morning, so now I can finally take my bike places again. Need to do it this week for sure. Weather is looking clear all week. Just another fun work week as usual otherwise. Today's new beers:

Very nice English porter. Aromas and flavors of caramel, toffee, milk chocolate, cocoa, brown sugar, molasses, toasted brown bread, and light coffee/nutty malts; with some light-moderate plum/apple yeast fruits and herbal/woody/peppery hops. Light-moderate herbal/spicy hop and roast malt bitterness; light-medium bodied; fairly creamy/grainy and sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel. Light-moderate dryness from roast/hop notes. Nicely robust for 4.8%. Well rounded malt complexity with nice presence of yeast/hop flavors; without going overboard. Very well made. 3.9
    [IMG]

Excellent rye pale ale! Great head retention, and soapy lacing. Aromas and flavors of big lemon zest, pineapple, grapefruit, mango, papaya, orange peel, light pepper, and pine hops; with moderate spicy rye/bready malt and herbal/floral/grassy hop earthiness. Medium pine/herbal/spicy bitterness; smooth/crisp finish; moderate hop stickiness and light grainy creaminess in the mouthfeel. Moderate dryness; zero lingering hop astringency. Nice and vibrant on hops; with a solid malt presence. Very drinkable and complex. Apples blended in with all of that nice tropical hop showcase going on. I loved it. 4.1
    [IMG]

Really nice Irish red ale! Aromas and flavors of caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toasted biscuit, nutty, and light roast malts; with some light plum/apple yeast and herbal hops. Light-moderate herbal/spicy bitterness. Medium bodied and fairly creamy/grainy mouthfeel. Slight hint of diacetyl, but not out of line for the style. Moderate dryness from hops and roasted grains. Clean, crisp, and smooth finish. Delicious and spot on style example! This will be something I return to when back in season. Saugatuck continues to impress me with a lot of their latest new beers. Might have to retry ones I haven't had in a while. 3.9

Very nice BBA English porter. Aromas and flavors of big milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, brown bread, vanilla, coconut, bourbon, oak, almond, and light salt; with some light plum/apple yeast and herbal hops. Light-moderate herbal bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish. Medium bodied; fairly creamy and crisp finish. Light-moderate dryness from bourbon/oak spiciness. This is extremely drinkable with a lot of really nice complexity. Well balanced between barrel and malts; with classic English porter flavors. Price was a bit steep, but worth the try for sure. Really delicious. 3.9

Cheers, have a good night NBS

End of July marks the beginning of a nomadic period between New Mexico and New York with all types of places visited in between. Wife and daughter are moving to Washington Heights, NYC, so I'll be spending plenty of time there. Will also be driving out there at the start of June and that's when I'm hoping to lug a New Mexico variety pack of aged goods. Potentially some fresh hops too just because that's where New Mexico really shines.

Seriously?!?! First NY, then MA (assuming Boston), but no Wicked Weed in [my part (as far as I've seen) of the] DC area?? Forget HB2, I think I'll boycott NC for this slight as much as any other :slight_frown::slight_frown:!

Holy cow! What happened? I cracked another from @SammyJaxxxx and all hell broke loose with connectivity. I'll muddle through a review as I'm down to a half glass and couldn't log a review. Let's improvise/compromise and put this next beer into some perspective. I popped the top on SS-C.R.E.A.M. from Carton Brewing. The canning date is 4/25/16 and the abv. is listed on the label as 8.4%. Let's taste what's left......

It poured a hazy gold with two fingers of white foam. The smell is grapefruit forward with some pineapple and orange zest. A bit of malt hiding in the rear. Nice flavors of grapefruit, mango, mild passionfruit. Some floral notes emerge in the finish. The feel is creamy, smooth and slick.

A hoppy imperial cream ale? I love beer style benders! Call it what you want, I call it delicious. Creamy smooth, great hop flavor and easy to drink for 8.4 percent. Another winner from Carton, I'm officially a fan boy after having three of their beers the past few days. My score was 4.19 / rDev -0.5%.

    Here's the brief official review......

Greetings NBS, first post in a few weeks thanks to some stressful finals and a full work schedule. Happy to say I'm all done with the semester, and even managed to pull straight A's. Time to make up some food and kick back with some beers. I haven't had an official beer to celebrate the end of the semester for me, but it might happen tonight, depending on how blitzed I'm looking to get!

    Here we go!

    That's what I'm talkin about!
Fruity as hell nose, and that nice cloudy piss look with a big fluffy head. Taste follows the nose, but a little more subdued, with a hint of pine notes. Mouthfeel is on par for HH stuff, and this is dammmmmmn good.

    Musical background:

Cheers everyone, will back soon with another I'm sure. Welcome to LATE NIGHT NBS.

Certainly more than welcome. Would be awesome to get a bunch of NBSers all drinking the same ABQ/NM beers on a Sunday. Any day would work though, ultimately.

One more for the evening, Tired Hands Only Void:

It seems, as with my previous new beer, that I liked this much better than most.

    4.27/5 rDev +8.7%
    look: 5 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.25

16 ounce can into a munique glass.

Wasn't sure what to expect from this beer. I've had TH pale ales and IPAs and been wowed, but then I had their pilsner and was highly disappointed.

Can they handle an imperial stout?

Indeed they can. This is excellent. Right from the nose I'm finding a lot to appreciate. It's creamy, chocolatey, with a dark fruit medley and a bit of bitter cocoa. All of this carries over to the flavor. It's a bit gooey, chocolatey, heavy on the dark fruit and a touch of caramelized sugar. The finish lingers with coffee.

And it drinks pretty well. Creamy, sweet but restrained, and a touch roasty.

Well, the pilsner wasn't their lane, but this is. This is damn good.

    Nose of lemon, very tart.
Tastes a bit sweeter than the nose would imply.
    Nice mouthfeel.
Overall this is a nice gose and I will be getting a few more.

    Well Hello, Late Night NBS

Damn, I leave you all to your own pursuits and now I have 2+ pages to read to catch up.

I've had a hella busy weekend here, but all for good reasons.

Life got in the way of some serious good beer at the Bruery Anniversary party for me. This is a killer event each year, and I have only missed one prior, but family comes first. Although I admit when I saw the list of breweries, and some of their offerings, especially the one-offs from thre Bruery, I teared up a bit...But hey, First World problems, right?

Thankfully I had some Elevated IPA and Exodus IPA from Canteen, due to the generosity of our very own @ONovoMexicano .
He also hit me with this wonder:
A Slice of Hefen from La Cumbre
    3.94/5 rDev -3.4%
    look: 4 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Poured a bright, lively straw to yellow in color. Mounds of white fluffy head in a vertical avalanche. Tapered back enough for the swirl (recommended on the can) and second pour. Mostly clear. Some tight lacing.
Smell starts with a bit of sulphur, then the gentle spice comes through. Pepperand clove. Followed by a wheaty banana meets lemon tart.
Taste is more balanced. The fruitiness of the banana, wheat base, and spice definitely goes in the banana bread direction. Hints of honey like sweetness, think bran muffins, nudges through a bit, but finishes more spicy.
Mouthfeel is active and fairly solid for style.
Overall, one of the better Hefeweizens I've tried.

Cheers All...Now I gotta catch up on page 2.

So, Late entry, but ending the weekend with something interesting.

    Kasteel Barista Chocolate Quad

    Browerij Van Honsebrouck

Poured a brown/reddish color into, with a slight foamy ring for the head.
The smell is very much of coffee, chocolate and some caramel. It seems there is a bit of fig, but I can't tell with the dominant coffee/espresso scent.
First sip, espresso blending with chocolate is the main event here. I can certainly taste the fig or raisin on the layers underneath finishing with a yeast flavor that is quite impressive. The carbonation is decent and the finish is the balance of the bitter coffee with sweetness. This is not the quad style you might imagine when you think of the Belgian Quads, but it's very nicely balanced with the 11% ABV masked just exactly right to make it pleasant but give it just enough warmth this style is known for.

I will buy this again for sure as it probably pairs well with a good steak!

    Late Night NBS style!

After approximately three weeks without a phone, I finally got one two days ago! Pretty exciting. Spent last weekend hiking the mountains around here with an old buddy of mine who's still alive. Good things! Womp womp week at work, but now I've got a couple of days again. Finally got to play Food Chain Magnate. Been looking forward to that for a while. Lost by a LOT, but enjoyed it. Alles goed. And then... so exactly a month ago my friend broke her foot. Guess what happened last night? She fell trying to get her walking boot and fractured her distal radius. So back to the ER we went. So now I've got her dog again and we're watching bad netflix and easting pizza. Claasic.
Last night was incredible. Fremont Brewing had their soiree Heron Hunting Club thing. Incredbile. Everything from Ancient ones and experimental hop variations of some of the classic IPAs to Rusty Nails and Smoking Jackets and all sorts of fancy takes on the BBADS and BBombs and whatnot. Plus a vertical of BBADS with the head brewer. And live music. And great food. Just a great time all around. Sat and chatted with a bunch of the people from the brewery,. Good shit.

Tonight. Now that the ER is in the rearview and I am once again living a 2 Dog Night.
Overhang. Appropriate on multiple levels. Could call it a... double entendre? The hikings and the drinkings? Eh, whatever.

Spoiler alert: I really enjoyed it.
Ashy/dusty black body that's topped off with a surprisingly light head. Decent lacing.
Nose is lead by chocolate and a roasty cream.
Nose had some interesting notes, but then the you start sipping and it brings it all home. Creamy and sweet. Chocolate and vanilla and bourbon and deliciousness.

Good stuff. Overhand is a great Imperial Porter. Drink it. Cheers!

Hmmmm, I have a few ideas but will need to find out how possible/feasible they are before suggesting them. Of course y'all could just come up to the Doom Saloon, my friend's tasting tavern he built in his detached garage, and hang with the Doom Saloon crew.
