Just had my first bottle of the season last night. It was exactly like I remember it ... THIN AND ARTIFICIAL-TASTING!

Just kidding. It was delicious. I had forgotten just how bitter that beer is when it's fresh, but with all that chocolate mixed in with the coffee, you don't seem to mind. When FBS is out of season and I want a coffee stout, I usually opt for AleSmith Speedway Stout, which tastes sweeter to me than FBS.

Luckily FBS will be sold until April, so it will be in season for a looooong time. Perfect brew to start college football Saturday!

I've honestly always thought it seemed a little thin compared to some other stouts, but it never detracted from it being an excellent tasting coffee stout. The one I had last night tasted as good as I remember with the same mouthfeel. Dated 8/15.

Hmm...I'm going to have to check again to make certain.

It is thinner than most Impy's as it is not an imperial. Even KBS is thinner than most imperial stouts, both are still great beers.

It tastes really burnt, with not much else going on.

I had it out of the bottle two nights ago and on draft last night. The draft version seemed to have more strong coffee flavor than the bottle which struck more of balance between chocolate, coffee, and oats. Both delicious, not thin and artificial. I certainly plan to do more testing and comparing this fall.

It's more established, less broken, slower, and less stout like than last year.

More of a "Colonized Refurbished-moderately-paced-porter" than a "Founder's Breakfast Stout" this year.

Been drinking batch 8/1/12 for the last three weeks. It's as good or better than I remember. Hope later batches are the same goodness.

Alright, I was expecting to help put the kibosh (sp?) on this debate by doing a blind taste test with my wife. She poured the '11 vs '12 for me and I clearly liked the '11 better. My wife liked the '11 better as well (blind). The '12 is less KBS like (not sure how to describe the flavor). Maybe less chocolate and more burnt coffee? I still like the '12 but it is a solid 1/4+ rating point down for me.

The chocolate is always more pronounced in older bottles for me. Maybe you guys just like chocolate more than coffee?

Can't comment on past years batches, but I'm drinking the 8-1-12 batch now, and its awesome. A bit thinner for a double impy, but damn good.

My experience from last years batch was artificial coffee and rather thin. I have a 4 pack of this years latest release in the fridge, I'll be cracking one tomorrow and Ill let you know if I feel the same this year.

This years tastes the same as all the other years I've had fresh. If you don't like it fresh then I suggest you age some if that is to your liking. This is how it tastes fresh every year.
