That only works in New England and other magical places, where the beer bro is strong

Re: Ruination 2.0, it seems to me that the main reason for the name change wasn't to be honest about a change in ingredients, but rather, the name change was the thing, an attempt to get people to give a beer they hadn't bought in a while another chance.

Grabbed a sixer of the new IPA bottles. Aroma is fantastic. I am enjoying the changes quite a bit.

    Change one malt: New beer!

Seriously, that's why I don't take any heed into most of the Flavor of the Day beers on here. Well, except for Sip of Sunshine, which was just stupid good.

I had one last night at the Bodhi infusion event and it was not good, almost terrible. Nose, flavor were off. I know the Tavern probably doesn't do the best job in having clean lines though.

Love the new packaging even more after finally seeing it in person. The font and the cap is very cool. The pics on the new site look awesome too. A non-Bodhi related question:grinning:, will you be selling new merchandise (especially glassware) online anytime soon, and do you have any plans to sell used barrels like Thirsty Dog does? I must have one of those Woodford Barrels with your logo branded on it!!

great questions. We'd love to have a retail outlet (i.e.: taproom) to sell merch and also online. Unfortunately I do not have a timeline for either. We're just now getting t-shirts and hats for our staff. We're not really stocking an inventory for public sale.
This is not news to most people, but things move very slowly within our company. To see things come to fruition take time and money. I believe this is in large part to the fact that it's still a "family" owned brewery. Eric and his wife own 99% of the stake. There's no investment dollars from the outside to help things move along. We're doing everything purely on revenues and bank loans. That stuff is painfully slow. We'll get there though.

Barrels: we've given away or sold some of the very few barrels we've used in the past, solely because we had no way to use them again and no space to hold onto them. We've emptied a couple recently, but we're trying to recycle them for funky use. Now that we have the space (open space and isolated space), we want to start building an inventory of oak like many other breweries. Moving barrels used for clean beer over to the funky side only makes sense. It takes a while to scrub the spirit flavor out, but there's still long term potential for that barrel. So to answer your question, very poorly: I have no friggin idea if/when we'd make used barrels available to the public.

Has anyone else had trouble finding fresh CBC IPA lately? Not real old or anything, but the newest I could find today was 32 days old. Up until a month or two ago, I could usually find it under 10 days a lot of places, and under ~20 almost everywhere.

Yeah...we had to load up big time in early April with the older packaging in order to maintain inventory while we were down and unable to bottle anything while we transitioned to the new bottling line. Then we had to go real bottle heavy to start the new line a) to handle the volume needed for new pkg relaunch and b) to run enough volume through to work out kinks.

We should start to see bottling dates balance out in the market. I've seen it happen already in certain stores. The old days of seeing IPA that was bottled the day before out in the market and on a shelf are long gone. Unless someone at the distrib screws up rotating inventory! Due to the size of bottling runs, and the volume of inventory the distrib wants to maintain in order to handle sales spikes, etc...... we hope to normally see IPA on shelves that's still only a couple weeks old.

This was my favorite beer by far..... Super dank and pine ridden. I described it like having your face ground into the floor of a pine forest. Really earthy beer.

Was in Ohio last week and so excited to get this beer. New label. Not a big deal. Clear dates. Great. Open and pour , looks great. Taste....wow this is very different not the beer I remember and love. Much fruitier. Still a really nice beer but not the beer I loved. Maybe I am the minority but I do not love the change and won't be going out of my way to get more. I will still drink it when I can get it but I won't dream of this beer anymore.

    Enjoy

I don't remember CIPA being "super dank and pine ridden" even when it was all Simcoe. It's always been a good mix of pine and citrus to me. Last time I had it was in the old packaging, and it was a bit dank, but not "super". I still need to try the new packaging version.

But, like Tony's response says, "Oh well". Different strokes and all that.

Over time I think the original version of this beer was changing and trending toward 'dank' but never was strong enough in that character to say it was the lead character. I was able to get some of the new version when I was in Ohio 10 days ago and I like the new version better. I agree with @Keffa that the citrus character has grown back.

Citrus has always been there, to me, with hints of mango and pineapple. There IS piney/resinous hop to it, but it's not the dominant flavor on the palate.

I can't even begin to tell you all how much/often this beer's recipe has changed over the years. It's always been Simcoe dominant with a various and frequently changing cast of supporting characters. This is the nature of growth, hop contracts, and variability in agriculture products. We're always looking for more flavor and aroma, but the idea of the beer will stay the same.

Whether you like it better now or if you prefer what you "think" you remember flavors being, is entirely up to you. We do lab and sensory evaluations of every batch and are always looking to make all of our beers better.
Some things are based on fact and others just personal opinion: but it's cleaner, more consistent, and overall a higher quality than it's ever been. And I hope ya'll buy a bunch of it!! ha.

Enjoy. more beers coming out soon. Cheers
