Does he mention the Superfund site and whether businesses like OH received financial incentives to open because of it? Which by the way, anyone know where OH gets their water from?

Started the book this afternoon and about 60 pages in. The whole premise of the book is around the evolution of the Creek to the canal to the Superfund site since early settlement. Plenty of reference to the severe pollution problems and the CERCLA designation in 2010, but no reference to business incentives for recent re-vitalization attempts yet. Still in the "beginning of the creek" portion of the book.

Hopefully OH is gettings it water from the Catskills/Adirondacks! However, I dont want to speculate as the last time I madr a joke about OH using the canals water I got a swift ban on the forum.

Haha. The Citra I had in Feb./March did taste like swamp water. Haha.

I imagine OH and all the rest of the NYC breweries alter the beer to their liking no matter what, but I feel like that's always part of the magic of Hill Farmstead is they've got that well water that's probably head and shoulders above any water anywhere save maybe Maine.

I ended up going to the brewery yesterday and ADE is still pouring (if anyone was wondering). They also had bottles of Beer Table Beer for sale, which was a nice surprise.

Yep still on the tap list today.

And for the City Slicker fans - I saw a new batch being brewed up. Not sure when it'll be released though.

Just to clarify, the author's last name is Alexiou, in case anyone is looking for it. (For what it's worth, a great guy who has - figuratively at least - immersed himself way more in Gowanus than just about anyone ever.)

Awesome! Hopefully sometime this summer. It's a great "doing outside things" beer.

Yep..complete typo on his last name there by me. This book is great so far. Extremely informative from an ecological/historical perspective.

was trying to plan my trip for next weekend, but this thread is really scaring me now. was thinking 7-8am for a 10am release was reasonable, but what the heck is this 6hr stuff people are talking about? last release i came to (Street Green) was maybe 4 or 5 hours, and that just about took the piss out of me.

    some thoughts:

    A: (Cheekily) Yeah, it's terrible, don't go.

B: If you're saying 7/8 AM and committing to possibly being there 3 hours early, you can't actually say that a 4 hour wait takes the piss out of you. If you're arriving at 7 for a 10AM release, you understand the state of demand, particularly in the context of what's significantly the largest metropolitan area in the us.

C: The line moves MUCH faster than it did for street green. You probably waited in line 1-2 hours before open for street green and then another 3-4 after opening. With the third (cash) register 3 releases ago or so, the line moves roughly 3 times as fast. I was just around the corner at Garnet this past weekend and was out by 1045.

D: This past weekend's release was a bit of an anomaly. Most the recent releases have been of the type where you're fine showing up at 830/9 (and even most beers lasting beyond the initial line), and then being out by 10:30. Unless they announce something crazy.... like 2 new double ipas, one named DANK something and a third with CITRA in the name, you should expect it to be more like typically recent lines and less like last weekend.

I got there last weekend just after 8:30, and was the last to get a braclet. Got beer around 11:30, and at least ten peole behind me got ACE and everyone else in line probably got both ADE and Telectroscopic. Times posted in this thread were a little exaggerated considering how smooth the release was. I realize not all big releases have been like that, but everyone from OH really nailed it and made things run very smooth.

after going back even further in the thread, i realized that these 2 points rang the most true. and i also figured out that the '6hr long' people just to show up at a silly early time. you're exactly right about what happened at street green... of course i know to expect a crowd, i definitely meant my hope is it that it doesn't go much longer. should be more than reasonable to expect to be gone within an hr of opening if you're at least 2 hrs early (clearly not since there's apparently a 5am crowd they're serving first), but whatever. it won't be my first or even my second release. i can hope all i want, and it'll take whatever amount of time it takes, and it can take the piss out of me. but i will still come, not that scared, pleasurable experience or not. i'm not there every release though. i attributed what happened last time to it being a collaboration release, and now it sounds like it's becoming much more the norm (never heard of beavertown, not sure how popular they are). street green was a good chunk of time ago, so i'm glad that some regulars can fill me in. it sounds like if you came at the time i would have planned on or maybe even later you would have been fine, and that the line moved great to boot. perfect.

also glad they have this wristbanding system, flawed or not, it's more than what some others (don't) do.

This rebrew news is excellent! Was holding on to the last 4 cans I had in my fridge, but now I may just crush the shit out of those this weekend.
