It's not really about the coconut as much as about the mouthfeel on Hawaiian, somehow, imho, only bavss and vss had the same velvety mouthfeel.

I only mentioned the coconut because after a while if bahss existed and the coconut faded it would pretty much just be bass. Which is obviously easier to obtain when they release it.

Would that make the current non-BA Hawaiian pretty much a regular SS? I don't think so. Don't get me wrong, I love Hawaiian super fresh, with all the coconut, but I think it's phenomenal even right now and probably will be for the next couple years. I think it's not just the coconut adjunct that made this beer really stand out, but the combination with the vanilla and the coffee used as well.

The few bottles I have opened recently have been absent of coconut flavor, although I still get some on the nose initially when cold. Once it warms that scent disappears entirely. Vanilla still comes through but not as forward as it once was. I have actually made i a point to finish my bottles sooner rather than later because of it. It is still noticeably different than say drinking a regular SS but it wasn't the magnificence that it was at release.

While the coconut flavor is fading..speedway is still in my top 3 favorite stouts...so yeah...that trade won't happen. =P

Gotta check if I have >1 mexican, but if I do, I'm in on that! Also, to not get banned for talking trades here - I'm one bottle away from completing my speedway vertical/set! #excitedAF

Which one still eludes you? The BA Kopi?

Well, I doubt they would barrel age Hawaiian. Even regular BASS is (at least, the last time I heard) was the base beer barrel aged, with fresh speedway blended in.

Really? Though Mexican was the first time they did that.

I thought they added in the adjuncts after the barrel aging period typically anyway.

It's only funny because at times I actually go out to the stores to find a regular plain old speedway since I am just not feeling like cracking a BA version. And then I come back empty handed. =(

Haha, right? Technically, I still need to pick up Beer Geek from a friend, so once that happens, I'll start my hunt for the missing family member.

I am pretty bummed it's not BAVSS.. That was, honestly, 99% of the reason I bought the $100 pre-sale package.

Fingers crossed it comes out this year.
