Damn, that's craziness. Cool, but this is one of the last states I'd expect such a thing.

Edit to add: Bellingham? Cool shit! I dig their beer and prefer to drink local.

Cool! I just got to try a few of their beers for the first time last weekend, and I was impressed with all of them.

I guess this means Melvin beers will no longer be welcome at any future "Walez bro only" bottle shares.

Yeah, I think the recent distro expansion with cans already took them out of that realm. I'm not sure if they've completed the construction of their new facility in Jackson yet, but, combined with the new WA brewery, might even push them into shelf-turd territory.

Well, not much has reached here yet. It'll be interesting to see how much later we'll get it after it becomes a common find in your usual haunts.

IPA, 2x4, and Hubert cans all over the place around here. Was even on tap at our brand-new Whole Foods when I went in to check it out last week. OT(surprise) but, WF has a little bar area with 6-8 taps, does growler and crowler fills, and has a TV that had the M's game on when I was in. Draft prices were average, and a slice of pizza was only $3.50. Would it be weird to watch the whole game at the grocery store?

In Bellingham, I would've thought this was already a well-established practice by now. Don't the normal standards of acceptable behavior have no bearing there?

You're probably more correct than you anticipated. My girlfriend says that the Westlake WFM (where she worked before getting hired at Bellingham) is packed on Sundays during football season with locals watching the Seahawks. In any case, I imagine after my move to Bellingham I'll be drinking many pints at Far North. My 30% discount doesn't hurt.

I wouldn't say they are turding it up, but they are everywhere! I pop in a corner store in Fairhaven, oh look, 2x4 on tap and in kegs. Stackouts at every single grocery store I step foot in, oh cool.

At least there is still a steadyish supply of fun one offs coming on draft too, Drunken Master, (Hop) Shocker, *Asterisk, etc... But I do have to admit that it seems over saturated, hopefully it all gets bought up before it starts to turn, so far so good.

Do we know yet if we can grab the said pint of 2x4 and then peruse the floor of WF? I know I'd be inclined to spend more money if that is the case, or are we just limited to the "bar" area?

Interested to hear what you think of the beer selection and pricing at WF, Terry.

I thought selection was pretty much the same as the Food Coop, just more. 2 whole rows of cooler doors, plus some end caps. Prices (although I didn't look too closely) seemed fairly much in line with the rest of retail around town. Now, is that an introductory "welcome to town" type of pricing, and after a while the price creeps up to the point where their nickname starts to make sense? We'll see.

That was the first time I had ever been in a WF, so was mostly just checking the place out. Did bump into @TheBungyo 's GF while there though. Tap selection was solid enough, except for Melvin, all local(ish. Island Hoppin'?). $8-9 for a crowler. I don't see myself making many trips specifically to go there (although, they had BBXXVII bottles, and I'd kinda like to grab a couple) but will probably swing by to check on stuff periodically. Conveniently located if headed out towards Lake Whatcom, so there's that.

Don't take my answer as definitive, but expect beer prices to be competitive with other places around town. That's how it is in Seattle anyway. Plus, there are the occasional sale items as well.

Sadly, no, you can't drink a pint as you shop. Hopefully one day though!

I found their prices to be very similar and the selection to be adequate. They have really nice almost frameless cooler doors so you get a really nice visual on everything as well.

Yea we'll see if the prices go up, but if they do enough volume I don't think that they would. Time will tell. I thought the Crowler prices were fair, again in line with their package prices as far as what else is available around town. I enjoyed it more on an early Sunday morning than I did on a busy Saturday afternoon, I will check the beers occasionally, but more interested in what they rotate through the taps.

I do worry a little bit about market saturation, though I also stand by my opinion that these are the best IPA's available in our market right now.

The Bellingham location makes sense for all the reasons the article talked about it, but is all very odd given they literally just opened their Alpine WY location.

Regardless, I'll most certainly be there the day they ultimately open. Wu Tang B!tches.

So bizarre that they chose Bellingham, yet it makes sense because that instantly makes them arguably the top dog in that town. Sad that Boundary Bay is becoming the forgotten Red Hook of Bellingham (not really, but kind of).

This also confirms that Seattle is def at the saturation point for new breweries if a fairly big name like Melvin is like Naaaaah we'll go be a big fish in a smaller pond instead.

One of the head guys is from the Bellingham area, so it's not that bizarre.

The article in the first post explains it pretty well.

Lots of ties to that region in craft beer. The reason why the Bellingham region had Crooked Stave on lockdown for a while was that the brewer's wife is from Bow-Edison.

Speaking of Bow-Edison, I'm surprised they don't have a little rustic artisanal brewery.
