Luckily I feel I don't drain pour too
often. The beer has to be REALLY
undrinkable for me to waste a brew
and send it through the drain pipes.

    How about you?

Haven't needed to drain pour anything yet. I let other BAs do that, read what they say, and learn from their experience what not to buy. :-)

The poll results show someone drain pours 1 in 25 beers?!? That person should really do a bit of research/know what they like so they don't have to waste nearly five percent of their beer.

I'll still have a couple per year- sometimes it's bad luck, sometimes it's not doing my homework.

This actually happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I picked up a 4-pack from a new-ish place that's starting to be talked about alot and canning their beers. Unfortunately, it's reeking with diacetyl and rather unpleasant. The thing is, I don't see mention of this in their reviews; so how's a person to know? At this point I'm thinking it'll be better in the long run if I do a review of one of those remaining cans, so at least it'll be put to some good use...

I very rarely drain pour, but the most recent time that I did will remain the most memorable -- not from a bottle, but at a relatively new local brewery, for a $10 glass with free tasters. After the first beer had distinct off-flavor, I asked the bartender to short pour so could try all the beers. The second pour I discreetly poured into the trash. The third one was so bad that I snuck into the restroom to pour it in the sink. Only one out of 6 beers that I tried were palatable. Major off-flavors across the board.

Well, the probability that I'll eventually do it has gone up in the last 2-3 years with the increased number of bottle shop/eateries in the area. Fortunately both of my regular places employ someone who knows his/her beer to do the selecting and ordering. Before that though it was a case at a time and no way i'm buying a case of beer untasted, etc. or without looking closely at reviews by people whose tastes I already know are similar to mine.

That said, I did manage to finish a Bud Light Lime-a-Rita by changing my mind set and thinking of it as a low ABV Margarita rather than as a beer.

Whenever it's called for, I don't keep count, but I also rarely venture out past my comfort too. But if it sucks down it goes.

In 6 years and 1000+ beers, about 4 or 5 got the drain.

Almost never. I BA'd every beers so I know what I'm buying. I know my taste. But I was close to drainpour with a few flavored beers like Corona or Desperados, then I thought screw it, I paid for it and will get a little buzz anyway. I'm greedy like that.

I've only been trying many different beers for two years but in that time I've drain poured once.

Not sure if that means I'm dodging the bad beer or if others are aggressively drain pouring. Personally I do not like to waste food or drink so it's a combination of that keeping me from dumping slightly subpar beers and me avoiding the really bad beers.

I try to never drain pour but it has happened a few times.
A lot of the best beers in the world too me and ranking wise would have been drain pours years ago when I was wet behind the ears haha so I give every beer its fair shake!

never. I always give a beer a full 12 ounces before final judgement. sometimes they grow on me, sometimes they don't. if they don't I know to avoid that beer in the future, but i'm not going to throw away something i paid for. and if i have 3 or 5 left afterwards, i'll just use them for cooking.

I have not drainpoured yet, even if it meant choking down a few truly awful wild ales. Probably more due to the fact that I'm a broke college student and can't afford to waste beer than out of any sort of principal.

I am trying to keep my svelte Ron-Jeremy figure, so I am very conscience of calorie count. If I don't find the beer I am drinking particularly palatable, I try to pawn it off on friends or my wife. Life is too short to drink beer that doesn't appeal to me. But, I always try avoid the "drain pour"

In the past three years I've drain-poured Mango Magnifico, Finback Plumb and Proper, Habanero Sculpin, and an old bottle of Weyerbacher Last Chance IPA.

This thread is bringing back bad memories.

I'm approaching 400 reviews, and can only think of 2 beers I've poured out, not counting those few here and there that were so far out of date they were undrinkable.

I really like beer. So very rarely, maybe twice in my life.
