Just curious, what are you even trying to do by tagging BL? Everyone trades and $100 is the going price for it. This also isn't a store selling so they can't do anything about it.

Interesting that you had BT last. Everyone I was with, and it appears most people here put Buffalo Trace as the best. It's very interesting to see how the same beer can be so different to certain people.

As for HazeShift, my god that beer is glorious. PLEASE add it to the normal rotation. I blew through 2 64oz growlers of it over the weekend at a couple parties. IMO, the best IPA BL has done.

Notice how they have taken more control over the way they sold things? What can happen is that they can look into the people who are reselling their beer and potentially prevent those names from buying their future stuff. Regardless if it's a store or not - they only actually have a dozen or so accounts any way, so they're on top on who sells their product on the retail front any way.

So yeah, I would advise to not resell their product unless you want to potentially be black listed in future online sales.

There are plenty of breweries that go after people flipping stuff on the secondary market, often banning them.

I can really only say this about Craft Breweries, but I've never had a bad experience at any craft brewery I've ever been to, in regards to the staff. You'll run into dummies there like any business that serves alcohol. When it comes to the owners and staff though, its the one market where I've always felt like they were genuinely happy to see me. Always helpful, happy, and willing to answer your questions no matter how dumb they are. So for you to have run in's with them, its probably a "you" problem.

Back to BL, everything I said above applies to them as well. Awesome crew. Not sure if it was there or Noble, where some dude rolled in. He looked like he was a few beers in and asked for a bottle of Pliny...no BS, he asked for a bottle Pliny. The guy behind the bar told him they didn't carry it. The guy wouldn't let it go "Not sure why you call yourself a F-ing craft beer thing, if you don't even carry Pliny." The guy behind the bar was super cool and even made suggestions of comparable bottles of their own brew. He just kept cussing, not like he was gonna fight, but more condescending than anything. He left bumbling something about going on Yelp and telling his 800 followers to avoid this place if they wanted Pliny. It was funny only because he looked like an extra out of an 80's John Hughes movie, and probably 120 lbs. Soaking wet. If he was 6'3" 250 lbs., we would've taken it more serious. I'm starting to think it was Noble.

Eh, I agree and disagree. If it is a retail store, by all means, control your business. If it is a person though, how can you control that? If I buy a car and then turn around and sale it way above value on my own, is the care dealership going to come to me and ban me from buying new cars?

I think you should just control what you can, which are your retail partners, and just know that what happens on the secondary market is just driving more hype (and sales) to your business.

Without naming any names, a higher up person at BL gave me a high five and was beyond stoked at the insane stuff FO was trading/selling for right after the hype hit last year. Now that you have success, you can't just go around and change your mind.

Reselling alcohol without a license is illegal, but sure let's say it's just like selling a car.

Well, one can argue that you're not legally allowed to sell alcohol. Many places have attempted similar situations. Firestone Walker recently went after both spots and people (all those parabajavas) who attempted to resell their product. Not to mention how Russian River basically got ebay to shut down any online sales of "collectible bottles" when Pliny was being sold there.

It's really just a matter of how much time and effort a brewery wants to put in to it in order to control the means that people get their beer. It really does matter if you buy from a secondary market, in some cases it may not even be the same beer and just be rewaxed. At best you're risking how it was kept and what not.

It's that double edged sword they walk along. I mean, they're all for the crowds visually, as it does generate more buzz for their product. but the flip side is that then people have to deal with crowds. :stuck_out_tongue:

I don't even trade Bottle Logic's BA stouts anymore. Nearly all the beer I traded for wasn't as good as the BL.

Has any info been released on the FO dinner yet?

Tickets go on sale this Sunday for the dinner.

Also, to be fair, if a batch of beer gets too big, the complaint that it's not the same or that quality of the product went down is a fair one. Many times in the beer industry, if you scale up too fast, you need to compensate for a lot of other factors and yeah, the beer may not taste the same. Look at Bootlegger's. The first few runs of Knuckle Sandwich was amazing and put them on the map. But after they scaled up in equipment, the beer tasted drastically different and that magic suddenly was gone.

Not to say it always happens that way, but there's something to worry about.

Yeah, but in BL case, they are taking steps to avoid that. Online says, limited release window and no proxies.

THIS. So much this. This is a self-inflicted wound that is part of this giant beer bubble. Its econ 101, supply and demand. People will also do this no matter the product.

And for the record, I've never sold a BL beer. I just don't see the issue if both parties are happy.

BAD NEWS: Last of the Hazeshift will be poured today.

GOOD NEWS: According to BL's Facebook page, the DIPA version of Hazeshift goes on tap tomorrow.

Better news would be they are making that a regular beer. Damn is it good!

Instagram post they made puts DIPA Hazeshift at next week.

I had hazeshift last Thursday when they put it on, and Monday night as well. I feel like between Thursday and Monday there was a distinct reduction in its "haze". I attributed it to different kegs, or maybe some of the yeast settling. Wonder if anyone with more NE cloudy IPA exposure ever noticed similar changes when getting draft pours of these beers.

I'm sure a lot of people are going to try for tickets. I know I am. Just hoping they don't also double the bottle price like they did with the dinner price this year.

Are there any details on the price yet? Surprised there are no details this close to the sale so people can decide, although it will be an instant sellout anyways haha.
