Happy birthday, man. You got me beat by about seven years, so I defer to your wise ways. Unlike you, though, I finished up last night with a 13% stout. But I would like to enjoy the Allagash Brett's. Haven't pulled the trigger yet.

Yep. Got to watch it take off and fly around a bit several different times during the course of the day. Sadly, I didn't have the $375 it would have taken to get a ride on it.

I can honestly say I've yet to encounter the fart that wasn't packing at least a little bit of off-putting odor.

Thanks for this review. I've been wanting to try Dieselpunk, but I was hesitant to pick up a multipack of it. I think I'll wait for one to show up on the singles shelf now.

Livin' it up on NBS today/tonight. I have 4 new beers lined up. Since my birthday is tomorrow, but I have to be up early on Tuesday, today is the day I get down (yeah, you're right; I am still going to have a beer tomorrow).

First up: one that is not exactly a whale here on BA.

    Miller Icehouse

I am not ashamed to admit I like a good AAL when the time is right. Most of the time, really, it is about money and calories, plus they pair well with almost any food. I exercise almost daily and my diet overall is very good (I was a nutrition minor in undergrad, after all ) but somehow I am not headed in the direction I want, and I know have beer to blame for that (even though I only drink 2-3days /week). Increasingly, Natural Ice is my go-to "warm-up" beer since it is 5.9%, 130kcal, 4.0g carbs, and about a buck for 25oz. One big can of that before and with dinner, and I am ready to sip a barleywine or imperial stout for dessert and call it a night.

Not surprisingly, I compare all AALs, and ice beers in particular, to Natty Ice. Icehouse is solid for what it is. Smooth, well-rounded, quaffable, and will get the job done, but I find it lacks the finishing bite that Natty Ice has, so it comes off a little more cloying and malt-liquor-like. Glad I tried it, but with less alcohol and more calories and carbs, it won't be my new go-to AAL.

    3.13/5

Now, on to beers that will actually get me some "likes" on this site...:sunglasses:

So today was like a new beer Sunday lalapalooza between visiting Other Half and The Threes in Brooklyn today. Well, I got my first canned offering from Other Half. Not my favorite today but still a really tasty pils by an American brewery. Light gold appearance. Smells faintly of bread but a bit of hops as well. Has that traditional "Pilsner-y" cracker breadiness but also has a hop bite to set this aside from the usual pils. Overall a nice take on the Pilsner style and a good summer beer.

Beer Karma is real. Shared a Gbot with a guy I worked with after he told me his son was getting into craft beer (never met him). Hooked him up with a couple of heady's too for the price I paid. In return he grabs me a few HF bottles the last two years. He has started taking yearly Vermont trips. I pay him the price he pays for them. Fantastic to get to drink these beers. With two kids it is hard to get up there.

Look: Light yellow, with a touch of orange, quickly fading white head, with lacing on the glass as it goes in my belly 5
Smell: Tart, sour, citrus, grassy 4.5
Taste: Starts sour, and ends with a nice citrus/grassy flavor 4
Feel: Coats mouth with sourness and makes you want to drink more, highly carbonated, very easy drinking 4.75
Overall: Wish I could drink a gallon of this. Great drinkable brew. 4.5

Happy NBS everyone. Great way to end the weekend.

When I am working outside, it's hot as hell and humid, give me a MGD 64 or 5. Can drink them without getting drunk and they are cheap. They certainly have their place. No problems with a Budweiser or two at a BBQ either.

Nice looking rolls! I've never met a piece of bread I didn't like, and it looks like those rolls would not be an exception. I'd make a terrible Dr. Adkins devotee (as I suspect all of us here would).

Evening NBS people hope all are enjoying this quickly passing weekend. Thanks to @JackHorzempa for the fantastic review on a brew I would now love to get my hands on. I was going to sit this one out but I have many new beers to try. And who knows what tomorrow will bring....? Todays beer is:

    Pipeworks Brewing Lizard King APA

Pours a very pale yellow not unlike an AAL- Of course when the massive pillowy white head arrives and lingers with spotty lacing you are reminded this is not the case.

Then the luscious tropical aroma of mango, passion fruit, pineapple and light citrus hits. Nice. There is some green grassiness and a hint of malt and pine.

Taste follows with lots of tropical notes, very light malts and a fine bitterness. A little greenness like chewing on a blade of grass or hop leaf- Fits the bill. Citrus/lemony notes dry this out. Tasty juice.

Finish is dry and crispy but there is a bitterness left on the tongue and the carb is tiny bubble to tie it all together, while light in its body.

Pipeworks- great can art. Great brew. You could drink a few of these. Its reminiscent of Nightshifts Whirlpool due to the use of Mosaic although I think this has more of an IPA feel due to the pleasant bitterness while NS WP has more of a peachy sweetness. In any case I dig it it. So glad to have the opportunity to try this one!

Keepin it short and sweet tonight. For NewOldVinylSunday I'm throwing some Todd on the felt. One of his first. Of course he plays every instrument on almost the entire album. Makes me widh I had my Akai 4 track reel to reel back again.
Hey-Have a great night and Thanks for taking the time.[IMG] [IMG]

    Sixpoint Puff

Greetings from hot and muggy southeastern Pennsylvania. Thanks to @JackHorzempa for kicking things off today. It's been sort of a blah weekend, so I'll skip the story time and go right into the review.

Finally hoping on the Puff bandwagon. It pours a hazy, yet vibrant, dark orange color with a huge, very airy tan-tinted head. The air pockets in the head get pretty massive as it dissipates, so that the whole thing holds its height for a while, before finally collapsing to leave clumps of heavy lacing.

Mango, pineapple and pine needles stand out in the pretty-strong aroma, with a little breadiness and just a touch of rye spiceness behind, although I'm not sure whether it's actually brewed with any rye.

It's got a very pillowy mouthfeel, again with a little spicy prickliness to it. The initial taste follows the nose, with a strong hop bitterness and a lot more pine on the backend, as well as a tiny bit of alcohol.

Not my favorite Sixpoint offering, but solid nonetheless. Tastes more West Coast than East Coast to me, and for an IPA, I like that just fine.

    Have a great evening, everybody.

I think there was a sign with some info about that particular plane, but I can't remember what it said. As for that museum, I have indeed heard of it. Sounds like they've got a helluva collection.

Hello, NBSers, and welcome to the "Day After Duvel Day" edition of this magnificent thread. My first submission is very appropriately named, given the theme yesterday.

It's the Hopocalypse, baby!!! Okay, it's not, but still.

I'm really enjoying this after mowing the ovaltine family grounds. It's a beautiful burnt orange, mostly clear, with a couple of fingers of off-white head. The nose is citrus and caramel malt, but the malt disappears on the taste and the blood oranges com blasting through. Really unique, and a great flavor profile (if you like blood oranges, which I do). I wish I'd purchased a second bomber of this.

    Rated 4.13.

Well done! Now you have to post a review every week. I think it's some sort of rule or something.

BTW, thanks to @JackHorzempa for that awesome kickoff to today's festivities. I posted from my phone and couldn't edit my original post. The effort is, as always, much appreciated.

Not sure this is the best way to recover from Drink with the Duvel Day, but it's not my fault they made this glass hold so much beer.

It is a cloudy amber orange with a monstrous cream colored, milkshake thick, sticky cap that has incredible retention. I swear you could lay a quarter or 2 on top. Lacing is more spotty than I would have guessed, but present nonetheless.

Aroma is not overwhelming, but very nice. Tropical fruits are dominant, with some candied sweetness (not Hopslam levels), and some light bready malts.

I would say it tastes just a smidge better, but still nothing jumps out at you so to speak. Pineapple, grapefruit, mango, melon, and a touch of herbal/piney hops that are probably more spicy than flavorful. That honey to rock candy sweetness is there, but fairly subtle. Bitterness builds on the back end.

The body is outstanding. Very easy to drink. A bit of a fluffy texture. That crisp bite is there from the hops.

I would say this one is a little closer to an ipa than a dipa/imperial. It definitely straddles that line. Honestly I would rate it a bit higher in that category, but it is still a very well balanced, tasty beer. I still like Hopslam better for what it's worth.

Very malty, charmelly and biscuity. Not a ton of hop bitterness but there is a pleasant slight hoppiness on the finish. The mouthfeel is perfect for a session beer enough to coat but not to much to not be refreshing. It's not great but I'm definitely enjoying it.

Prairie Artisan Ales Birthday Bomb!, 13% ABV, unknown IBU - perhaps 50. Pours thick and black with no head, and no lacing. Nose is alcohol, chocolate, caramel. Taste is boozy, light pepper, sweetness of vanilla and caramel, slight bitter close. Good mouthfeel despite low carbonation, wondering if this bottle didn't seal well enough. Overall decent, but I like regular Bomb and Pirate Bomb! better. More of these are on the shelf here, not sure I'll buy any more.
