    Yesterday's beer, not my kind of stout.
    Very dry and watery.

    Alzina (Bouleternere, France) Blanche, a witbier of sorts. Refreshing, properly made - seek it out if you're anywhere near Perpignan in southern France. Fun. Off to Paris tomorrow... cheers to all BAs.

    Was in the Dominican Republic for a week and the only beer available at my hotel complex was Presidente. My beer taste buds were broken by that stuff. Had to get some good beer flowing again. Cheers! It's good to be home.

    After walking the neighborhood during garage sale week I decided to set up shop. Hoping I can sell it all and have enough money for a six pack this weekend, and more space for more bikes. Speaking of bikes, this beer is named after a gnarly bike race.

    Greetings, Beer Advocate! Been awhile since I've gotten in on one of these threads... I'll basically be treating this as a New Beer Sunday, since I fecking miss being able to participate in those.

    $10 bomber that I couldn't pass up... even if it's mediocre, I find it hard to go wrong with a BBA'd stout at that price.

    Appearance: Here's my instant discontent -- this beer pours a pretty light color. A ruby tinted brown, really, into the glass. There's a nice looking, creamy head on top, but the color of the beer just irks me a bit. This beer is very clearly a ruby brown color even in modest lighting, which is instantly disappointing for a 10% coffee stout. Truthfully, this looks more like a 7% porter. Fingers crossed for better things to come.

    Smell: Coffee. Really, you get what you paid for, as that's the most potent aroma at first. After that, pleasant notes of bourbon, oak, and vanilla, with accenting caramel. The barrel isn't particularly strong in this beer on the nose, but it's very clearly there. The coffee, for me, is the most prominent smell going on here. This beer says "Aged 100% in Bourbon Barrels" and the back says "for months", but I would guess only for 6-8 months.

    Taste/feel: Follows the nose nearly perfectly. Coffee with sugar and cream on the front end with the barrel creeping in halfway and into the finish, adding flavors of vanilla and caramel, with a little bit of bourbon and wood. This is a sweet tasting beer. Unfortunately, like I kind of figured based on the aroma, this simply does not drink like a 10% imperial stout, and so I don't find that it stands with "the big boys." There's very little roasted malt quality to this beer, just coffee ... and it comes off as a light or medium roast coffee with a little much sugar and creamer. The finish has the nice accents you'd expect from a BBA'd stout, but the lack of a real dark malt base just leaves me wanting more.

    The feel on BSCS is just as I figured it would be from my initial pour -- rather thin. This goes down like a 6.5-7% porter more than it does a 10% imperial stout, which is obviously a disappointment.

    For ten bucks, I regret nothing. This is a really nice coffee porter (in my eyes) that was mislabeled a stout. There's not enough body or rich roasted malt flavors in this beer to make it a world class BBA'd stout, but it is still a beer I would recommend to fans of the style, but only if they really like coffee in their beers.

    4/5 (+1% rDev)

    Cheers, all! :sunglasses::slight_smile:

    I love the tasting glasses at Genesee. These are cute and hold a good amount of beer. Perfect for lager styles, belgians, wheats, wits, blondes, bocks and bitters. Cheers =)
