Haggen in Bellingham was closing out some wild beers, Crooked Stave, Rodenbach, Logsdon. 750's of Seizoen Bretta for $5, Crooked Stave bottles from $3, Rodenbach for $2. There was some OSH Barleywine, Gigantic as well. Thought it was a nice surprise, if anyone else is in the area it was the one in Sehome.

Massively kicking myself for apparently not reading this thread till now. (There needs to be an emoticon for "WTF?") I'd have totally employed whatever powers of persuasion I have for a bottle of Electric Berryland.

Stopped in at Farmstrong today after spending the afternoon in Bow-Edison. Wife had the Imperial Stout, I had the collab sour with Boundary Bay. That place is massive! The outside space looked really nice, appeared to be a wedding party going on out there. The main inside area is kinda dark, though. Needs more light.

There's a new batch, I think it was bottled. I don't have one for myself, yet, but if I get out there, I'll happily grab ya some.

This thread seems like a good spot to find those of you who know Boundary Bay beers well. I had their amber the other night, and really liked it. I was surprised at how good it was, because the ratings on BA for that beer are only at 3.44, a fairly mediocre rating. I thought it was one of the better ambers I've had, way better than the ubiquitous Mac and Jack's, for example. I gave it a 3.79, and maybe should have been higher.

What do you guys, who know that brewery well, think? Is there some reason why their amber has gotten a lot of comparatively low ratings? Is it just folks who don't want any hoppiness in their ambers?

What other hidden gems am I missing from Boundary Bay? Or other breweries in your neck of the woods?

I can't speak on the amber, but Cedar Dust from Boundary Bay is damn good. Almost everything from Wander is great, and Structures is making some damn fine beers as well. Their Juice on Juice that they just did was one of my favorite IPAs this year. Also really like Sunnyland IPA from Kulshan.

I was delighted to discover Structures in downtown Bellingham last week. FWIW I had a jug of Mosaic Pale Ale from Wander and so I got the Structures version of the same brew. As much as I like Wander, the Structures Mosaic was even more flavorful. Interesting beers and they seem to know what they're doing better than typical new breweries. Also liked this one--

In an odd coincidence, my buddy texted me yesterday and asked if I wanted to go up to Twin Lakes. Since you have to drive past North Fork to get there, of course we stopped. I now have a bottle of Electric Berryland for you.

I suspect that low ratings (and, personally, I don't think mid 3's on a 1-5 scale is mediocre. I've given plenty of great beers scores in that range) are mostly due to it being an Amber. I don't know, off the top of my head, what the scores for Flat Tire, Alaskan, and M&J's are, but I suspect they're in that range as well, just because Ambers aren't a "sexy" style. BB's Amber is certainly hoppier than most, and it's a beer I rarely drink, but it's certainly a solid and pleasant enough brew.

Boundary has come a long way with their Pilsener as well, and recently the decision was made to make it a year-round brew, instead of just a summer seasonal. I'm a big fan of the Cedar Dust IPA as well, had it side-by-side with a Heady a few weeks ago, and thought that it compared very well. I've loved the Cabin Fever winter ale for a long time as well.

I think Wander is making the best, and most interesting brews in town. I like Structures a lot, although their hoppy stuff doesn't really push my buttons. I recently had the Juice on Juice as well, and was less than impressed, but that style doesn't really do anything for me in general.

There's a nice little sour program going on at the North Fork, was just there yesterday and had a couple sours and a really nice Wit.

If it's a hoppy amber, it's score might be reflecting that a lot of people who like ambers like Fat Tire or M&J's African Amber aren't looking for a hoppy beer. Me personally, about the only time I'm interested in an amber is if it is hoppy, but lots of folks disagree with me on that one.

    Whoa!

Now taking steps to get @beertunes canonized, which will be awkward as 1: Beertunes isn't dead and 2: I'm not Catholic.

Structures just posted on FB that they're releasing another "opaque" IPA, Splash. If those SunnyD-type brews are your jam, check it out. Here's the CutnPaste from their post:

This Thursday...July 14th we will be releasing "Splash" this is in the same vein as "Juice on Juice". We have decided to label this 5.1% abv beer an IPA. Brewed with Oats, wheat, and barley, and dry hopped with Citra and Chinook. Once again...we challenge the city of "Subdued Excitement" to get excited about this beer and drink it as fast as possible! ‪#‎freshnessmatters‬ Also... @feastnorthwest will be here on July 29 and 30th for there debut in Bellingham. Shayle and Casey are two talented people and we are excited for them to showcase there food at our venue! More info coming!

I had Juice on Juice at Chuck's last month. It was more murky and bitter than anything.

I like everything else I've had from Structures, though, so hopefully this is good.

Stopped by Gruff a few nights ago, with @TheBungyo, and they're pretty close to being open. They're thinking sometime in August. They've finally got the bathrooms plumbed in, taps installed, and most of the big stuff done. Still lots of little odds and ends, and getting final approval from CoB. Looking forward to test driving their patio. (officially )

I mean that's pretty much the important stuff, yeah? Sounds like they're good to go!

Plumbing the bathrooms was one of the few things the owners couldn't do themselves, and they had to work with their plumbers schedule. But, yeah, they're pretty much ready to go.

It was largely tongue in cheek: a source to go in the body, and a source to go out the body, but I just woke up so my sense of humour may still be slumbering.

BUT beer-ly: it IS exciting news being that much closer to up and running!
