lots to list like how to review beer styles, proper temps for storing beers and beers that can be stored for a long while and those you shouldn't store. glassware enhances the beers character , while chilled glasses can have the opposite affect.
checking dates if you want fresh beer.certain stouts flavors will be lost over time so not all imperial stouts age well.
    these are just a few.

Been on BA since 7/4/2008, ironically enough, and I feel the same. The typical internet mudslinging ala monkeys in a zoo throwing their dung at one another doesn't exist here. I'm not on Facebook or Twitter, I'm on BA...and recently succumbed to Untappd, for it's convenient way of keeping track of beer w/o getting all Encyclopedia Brown about it. Never once have I bothered to look @ratebeer, no need to this site is a wealth of knowledge.

Best lesson I've learned is never give up on a style. When I joined I was already tired of the hop/IPA madness, but I never stopped trying. Discovering the different varieties & how they are used in the brewing process & which variations I found the most palatable helped me to appreciate the style. At this point my beer fridge is always stocked w/a wide variety of styles or at least wider than ever.
Currently, marveling at the minutia of variations between sours/wilds & their rising popularity along w/jamming fruit into anything & everything.

I've learned to appreciate how many truly nice people inhabit this place. The erudition and humor keep me eager to see what's next. I've also learned a little bit to just let some comments go. I've discovered that old-fashioned sarcasm and irony are often taken seriously. I've learned that people are really touchy about IPAs. I've learned that the beer world that I have loved "all" of my life is going the way of the wine world, a world that I know well.

Still love beer more than wine. Wine I have to be in a certain mood for but the fun now is converting those including the wine aficionados into beer explorers, it's not all just yellow fizz & Hop bombs.

There are always going to beers that you'll never be able to get your hands on, so enjoy those that you can.

i learned that i like literally every style of beer except Rauchbier, doppelbocks and gueze oddly enough after almost 100 styles had.

But to be fair the doppelbock was a Leine and i should probably re visit a german offering. Dam that sweetness though. And i like sour like Gose and Berliner but not gueze because i noticed a smokey greek yogurt thing coming off them and i dont like that. I can drink it but prefer not to. Will drink smoked porters but can't hold down a rauch.

Among the German produced ones that should be easy to find, the Celebrator will help you decide if you like the style or not.

Also, you should be able to find some Troeg's Trogenator over there in Jersey. It's reasonably well done and probably will be fresher than most of the German imports. Another you might just find you enjoy, if you can find it, is the Smooth Hoperator from Staudts. It's not traditional in that they use American Hops rather than Noble Hops, but I personally quite like it and make a point of getting some when I can find it.

I've learned that if someone doesn't like a beer that it means the beer is definitely infected and everyone who has ever drank that beer is entitled to a full refund, swag, and an additional gift without proof of purchase on an unlimited time scale.

I've learned what a "ticker" is... a person who has had 1000's of different beers and STILL can't find one that is worth buying again! :grinning:

I guess I'm halfway to that... love trying as many different beers as I can but have a few go-tos when I buy for a family get-together. But even then I get a mixed pack so there is something for everyone :rolling_eyes::grinning::sunglasses:

Come on, who actually drinks the same beer twice:grimacing:. In all seriousness trying new beers is part of the fun and I mostly drink new beers with a handful of regulars.

I have just recently gotten into crafts and BA has taught me a lot about beer styles and appreciation. I'm learning to taste beer and have developed a new respect for the brewers craft.
