I'm only 2 hours away from 3 Floyd's and I've been wanting to visit their brewery for sometime, but the 3 people I know that have been there complained about the bad attitudes of the employees. I really enjoy the Zombie Dust, Gumball Head, Amber Smash, and Robert the Bruce so I've been wanting to go for sometime. I just don't want to make the trip up there to regret it. Please reply if you've personally visited because I know people who know people who say the same thing. Thanks for your responses.

Prepare for the horror stories. As for me, been there a few times, only sat down and ate once. Food was good and the waiter was just as pleasant as anywhere else. Personally never had any issues and every time I've been there it seems like everyone else is having a good time.

I'd probably would check them out, they do make some pretty tasty brew's from what I remember.

    Cheers!

Yes, it is worth it. The food is great, the beer is good. My best recommendation is to get there when they open to avoid the crowds and have lunch. What's available at the kiosk can be a crap-shoot, but there's likely to be something worth buying- $10 6pks, and fresh Alpha King and Cimmerian Sabertooth Berzerker eclipse ZD and Permanent Funeral any day, in my grand opinion....

Dark Lord Day is an entirely different experience, but totally worth it if you like sharing beer, and are fortunate enough to get a ticket.

I was visiting Chicago 2 weekends ago and decided to drive down to 3 floyd's as I'm a fan of their beer (I went just after after opening). Definitely worth the visit. Employees were all very courteous and amiable. Lots of beers on tap that I hadn't had and the food was quite good. Laid back atmosphere. I had a great time and definitely recommend it. They unfortunately don't have any of their bottles available to drink onsite but have a good selection of taps and often have some ZD, etc. available to go.

Oh heck yes it's worth going. They actually just put on a one-off that is an early version of Alpha King. I actually don't find it that crowded on non-weekends, obviously earlier in the week is even lighter of a crowd. I've been a dozen times and have had all positive experiences with staff.

You should go but if you plan on eating there you have to at least be able to tolerate metal played fairly loud. I was there once, early on a Sunday ate at the bar then a couple of the bombers they were selling that day. I would say the employees were brusque but it is quite a zoo.

OP, seeing you are only 2 hours away and you have wanted to go there, I recommend going there and experiencing it yourself. This is the most critical piece of advice - try your best to ignore any preconceived notions and have an open mind. And at the very least you'll be able to enjoy beer there you already know you like.

I'm glad to hear the positive reviews. I'm from Chicago and my sister lives in LA, so we've been talking about going together for sometime whenever she visits. So I was disappointed to hear negative reviews. Thanks for your responses!

Can't speak for everyone (and I'm sure this isn't 100% accurate) but I get the impression that many people who report a negative experience weren't sure what to expect. Basically, if you approach it like you would any food and beer place that plays metal exclusively and only shows weird movies (FWIW I like metal and weird movies), it probably won't stray from your expectations.

I agree. But it was upsetting to hear negative reviews from the few people I knew that went. Also my sister only visits once per year, so that would really suck making a 4 hour round trip to be treated poorly by the staff. I'm glad to hear such good things now.

Well you could always visit FFF in advance of your sister visiting. If you like the vibe and you think she'll like it as well, sounds like a good reason to go again, right?

Thanks. I'm glad to hear that. The general consensus is that weekend visits should be avoided if possible.

3 Floyds is absolutely worth the visit. Without question.

I've never had a poor experience there (speaking of at the pub, not at DLD, which is a different discussion) but I get that some people have.

If you live 2 hours away, why would you not?

She had me wait for her to go see the new Star Wars as well.

Have been there thrice and found it to be great every time. If you go there with the expectation that the wait staff is going to be waiting for you at the door with big smiles saying, "We're so glad you came and we really hope you like our beer" the thinner skinned person might be somewhat disappointed. They know what they have, and there are no false pretentions of what they are. You just deal with it when you're in their house and enjoy the ride!

I think a majority of complaints about the staff being rude has to do with the host. FFF operates at a strict capacity and once they hit that, they do not allow anyone else in. That means that when the bar and tables are full, they do not allow anyone to stand inside to wait. Doesn't matter if it is raining or -10 degrees outside and the wait is 3 hours long, you have to remain outside the building. The host has to tell people this over and over and doesn't put up with much complaining about it.

Honestly I've never hear a single complaint otherwise except here, and I take that with a grain of salt. Many people go in with certain negative expectations about FFF and let that influence their experience.
