I used to use freeshbeeronly.com and while it wasn't 100% accurate, it was better than nothing and saved me from buying old product a bunch of times. It was quick and easy, and could be done standing in front of the cooler. Went to check it last week only to see that it is gone. What do you use to check / decipher date codes?

For some dates codes I find this tool useful.

Try to find a blue light. It heightens contrast and might make those basically invisible printed dates show up.

A beer rep told me he has an ap on his phone that translates the codes. Don't know where he got it and didn't have time to ask but it seems worth looking into.

I saw some members offering to donate for the site. Will these donations keep it up for any reasonable time frame?

Can't you just create a free Google Site in the interim?

If I can't figure it out, I don't buy the beer. I suggest you o the same, why support breweries who don't care if you are buying old product?

Same here. At the store yesterday I asked a Rep to help me find a date on the Craft brand he was stocking at the time. He couldn't find a date or an ABV percentage. So he called the brewery who said they list neither, had no plans to, but there was a packed date on the case and the beer would be good for 180 days after that.

The Rep then relayed a terse message that the customer doesn't buy any beer that's not dated.

That's why the tool is helpful, and until everyone starts dating clearly in a format that is easy to understand, it gets me a lot more possibilities. When in doubt I always leave it behind. Burned too many times.

Good for you. Next time have him also let the brewery know which beer you are buying instead. (Preferably one not handled by that distributor's rep.)

Sounds fine but I think it can be more effectively expressed to the brewery by following up with an email, phone call, social media post, etc stating why you are not purchasing their beer. Just not buying the beer does not let the brewery know why you didn't buy the beer & give them a chance to potentially address the issue. Just my 2ยข.

Did that in a detailed email to the brewery to which they haven't responded. Tried calling first but all calls to that brewery at the number listed on their website go straight to voicemail where you are instructed to send an email.

Kudos to you. So far as I've experienced it, the only time some pay attention is when the realize they are losing business to the competition.
