Does anyone have any input regarding summer beers that are available in NorCal? We're doing the 4th of July at my sister's house and I want to impress my dad and my brother-in-law with something that'll knock their socks off.

We've done Linunkugel's Shandy, which is really good, but we've tried it. I don't do fruity beers (generally), and heffeweizens are old hat at this point. IPAs - yeah, they're good, but what else ya got? If anyone can suggest something different, a little outside of the box, that would be great for a hot summer day (i.e. over 100 degrees), I'd be forever grateful. We're in the Sacramento area.

You've kind of boxed yourself in : 1) No shandy's 2) No fruit beers 3) No hefs 4) No IPA's.
Try finding a Gose you might like?

I'll give you my summer beer list, "fruit" and all.

Just about anything from almanac is a great choice.

Thanks for the heads up on the gose! I've never tried one of those and it sounds like it might be just the thing. Definitely sounds crisp and refreshing for our 4th of July pool party.

Thanks. That really does sound like nothing I've ever had. I'll keep an eye out for that in a six pack. I'm accumulating a list of beers to try.

Should be easy to find and it is a great summer beer, but it typically comes in 750ml bottles for ~$10.

Expand your considerations to embrace the difference between a fruity beer and a beer with fruit.

Victory Cherry Gose, but you can probably already get that.

    Ol' Republic Dead Canary.

Auburn Alehouse Gold Country Pilsner can be found in 6-pack cans, another great choice.

New Glory Saison. They just canned a fresh batch.
Will also echo Auburn's Gold Country Pilsner and NG Key Lime Gose if you can still find some.

Anderson Valley's Briney Melon Watermelon Gose hasn't been metioned yet either.

I ended up going with a saison and was pleasantly surprised. It was like a wheat beer with some subtle and unique flavors.

I found a 22 oz of Anderson Valley's Briney Melon Gose at Raley's, and I'm planning to split it with my dad for dinner tonight before we go fishing. Thanks for the input.
