Do we have a homebrewer "network" or directory?

    Hey there!

Just doing a bit of brainstorming this morning coming down from my hangover and fueling up with Coffee.

I had an idea, listed above. Do we have a list of homebrewers, by area, that are willing to network/meet up with other BeerAdvocate members? I travel a significant amount for work, and it would be awesome to add consulting this list to part of my travel routine. So many times it's literally heading to a bar and back to the hotel room, would be much better meeting new brewers!

Anyway, if this doesn't exist already - I would not mind picking up the torch on this project if there is interest. I myself would be happy to host anyone that came to my area, I am sure a lot of you would too!

Thanks, and I look forward to your feedback (or a link to this already in existence!)

I don't know of one here on BA or elsewhere...Milk The Funk has a member directory, but not really a meet directory of sorts. Sounds like a good idea to me!

You have my interest. I don't travel as much for my job any more but I still do a bit. I've been in that boring situation you mention many times in the past. work, bar, hotel, repeat.

If this were to be a list of, say, participants' BA User Names and general locations (like "Harrisburg PA area" for example), I'd be in. People could then BeerMail listees if they'll be travelling to the listees' area. But I wouldn't participate in a project with true personal information being published to the world.

Yes! I envision it being just that.

You're traveling to Kalamazoo? Consult document, you see that you have "X", "Y", "Z" homebrewers that consider themselves in the city, or nearby.
You then have the option to reach out to them if you desire (via BeerMail, or an email if you choose to list it), and of course everyone will have their own screening process. AKA - The person reaching out to come into your brew-haven has 15 Rep points on the site, probably would raise a red flag for me.

The original BA site had a list of members by state if I remember. What ever happened to that? I've been in same situation.

Would a live google doc be good enough?

Just a thought on a Google doc is that if someone gets pissed at another BA they could potentially change doc info to expose personal info about them. Not sure what kind of protection could be in place to protect against that. At least on here there are mods, we can see exactly who posted what about whom, and we can suspend accounts or limit access.

My wife expects shit like that anymore...

Recent conversations include "hey babe, keep an eye out, this dude I know from the internets is sending me some homebrew"
"Babe, I need to ship out some pale ales this weekend so I can get feedback".
"Babe, want to run with me up to Crooked Stave? This guy from VT brought me some beers."...

Yeah, last time we went down to Cali for a visit I took some brews with me and was going to possibly meet up in Vacaville with a BA HB user. Didn't work out, but it didn't really phase my wife. My dad's new wife was a bit perplexed though.

Interesting idea. I've met up with a few BA brewers and buddies, some of them have become quite good friends.

Yeah I hauled a fellow BA around Houston to Karbach & 8th Wonder one night, he was in town for some training. I think my wife is still going WTF was that about.

I'd be up for this if it could be moderated some how.

I'm in Waco, you should stop by the local brewery here next time you're in up this way.

There used to be a feature where you could see a list of members by state. Can they just add a city box to our profile page. Members could be as vauge/specific as they wanted. I live in 'da country on 'da bayou but I associate with Lafayette and Lake Charles for BA purposes.

It would be neat to add city to our profile, and make it searchable. Would save some hassle with creating a moderated online document. It could be done though.
