Fremont should just dump all the bottles down the drain. Save everyone the agony.

I just thought this thread was a bunch of talk about Matlock or whatever.

Sorry, but as far as I'm concerned, Fremont can do whatever they hell they want with this (as I believe it's their beer after all). I hope I get to buy some of the rusty nail, or try it on tap, but if I don't, so what? Like Forrest Gump waiting for his bus, if I miss this "hot new release, best thing ever, that I just have to have or I'll die," there'll be another one along shortly.

Could Fremont have handled the release and distribution of Rusty Nail in a more equitable fashion? Personally, I haven't a clue, but it sure sounds like the brewer is doing his level best to make it possible for as many fanboys as possible to obtain this beer without too much travel or hassle. But I guess that doesn't matter if I don't get mine. Obviously, the most fair thing would have been for him to let me buy as much of the beer first, before anyone else, and then distribute it to the rest of the population. I can't believe he didn't see that before making this obvious blunder.

I agree it's a bummer that the brewer insists on continuing to make more and more great beer that (of course) everyone wants to try and buy. Can't he see that this is the root of the problem? As so often seems to be the case, that generally means there's not nearly enough to go around for everyone who wants to try it or own a bottle. I agree that sucks, as it means the likelihood of my getting my fair share is not high (my fair share being, of course, whatever I feel is necessary to make me happy). However, so it has always been, and so it is likely to always continue to be.

The only redeeming factor is that I live in the NW, where good beer is incredibly easy to find. So no need to sweat it if I don't get to buy any of the Rusty Nail... I'm sure I can find something to take it's place, despite the brief depth of despair that I'm likely to experience.

Damn John, that's deep! You a literature major, bro?
You've really nailed my young adult angst down to a T! It's so unfair that I can't get what I want, man. I just wish I could put it into words as poetic as yours! I am sincerely envious of your prose.

But also it's a big shaft to the WA fanboys that put them on the map... ya know, selfishness aside.
"Hey guys! We made a great BA beer, but lol... not much! I mean, we're talking really limited! and uh... btw, lol, we're giving most away to other states LOOOL SEE YOU IN THE TENTS AT 7AM! ITS SOOOOO GOOD!"

Please respond with several paragraphs of poetic internet justice.
and if you could, a few gifs of janet jackson from poetic justice.
That movie was really a classic.

thx boo <3 see ya at the release!
EDIT: Wait, no I won't. Your state will get plenty of cases, and be able to just walk into the local bottle shop and scoop up a few!
    rats!
    I'm envious again!

Is this where I come to complain about being shut out of future(!) beer releases? This opens up a whole new world for the craft beer lover. This was long overdue and I'm glad the venerable NW forum is leading the way in complaining about releases that we don't even know everything about yet. Someone tag some FIBS so they can learn something.

I respect this point of view; indeed, it is in many ways not unlike my own (cataloged all-too-exhaustively for all posterity on the Midnight Still thread, I'm afraid to say). But in this instance, I feel you are being unfair to Fremont. They have not, in my opinion, unduly hyped this beer. That's been on so many of us, by posting about and clamoring for it on the Northwest forum for over a year. Speaking for myself, the hype, at least, has been real, because I honestly believe that Fremont's barrel-aged beers are the best I've ever had. I love the company (and not just for what they make, but for how they run things, for the sort of corporate citizen they are), and imagine Rusty, which I've never had, will be one for the ages. Perhaps I'd have paid the company and the beer (and the craft community, for that matter) a better compliment by saying nothing on this site, but I couldn't help myself. I felt compelled to sing Fremont's praises from time to time, and particularly when I thought they were being overlooked for the latest Bright Shiny Object. No one's perfect, least of all me.

When demand exceeds supply, there is never going to be an ideal method for releasing something. All you can do is be as painstakingly thoughtful and democratic as possible, which is, I believe, what Fremont has done here--or earnestly attempted to do, anyway. It's not like they made as little as possible and had a countdown clock ticking off the seconds on their website, with Twitter and Instagram posts chronicling the beer's maturation in its barrels entered daily the past 15 months. Instead, it's been something like the opposite. They made what was maybe as much as they could have at the time, and let it sit for as long as it needed to, not saying a whole lot, except for when @Texwild would be gracious enough to periodically log on here and nurse our impatience and restlessness when some new update was available (or we became intolerable, which has happened plenty). He didn't create any hype or, much less, stoke it. He simply showed a courtesy to some loyal fans in an online community.

Based on what I understand, this beer will be available, in limited quantities, at the UBG, bottle shops and certain grocery stores throughout Washington. It will also be available, presumably in much more limited quantities, in Oregon, Idaho and Colorado. What's so bad about that? Expansion into these markets has surely enabled Fremont's growth, which probably has something to do with why there will be more Rusty (and Fremont's other heavy hitters) for people to enjoy this year and in future years. They deserve a chance to try it, too, and if it means it runs out a little quicker here, and we cannot hoard it all, so much the better. I can live with a bottle or two, which is all I, or anyone, should ever need for a release of this kind. If you live in the neighborhood, are not incapacitated the next couple weeks, and put forth a modicum of effort, I'll be quite surprised if you miss out. Fremont has done as much as they possibly could have to be sure you wouldn't.

Switching gears, thanks to texwild for giving me, my wife, and 2 visitors a private tour during the monsoon that was the Solstice last weekend!

I'm so confused. Can someone just please type in regular folk English without all the acronyms and inside speak? I thought Rusty Nails was going out the last week in June? What the hell is going on? You guys are acting like this is a Black Friday release of you know what... It's not that deep is it?

Over-the-top hype is really getting old. After my last foray into Holy Mountain's Midnight Still release, I think I'm done chasin.

Better than too few, which convey not enough, or something not terribly productive. I'm glad texwild took care of you. You should take care of him, too.

For me I won't be offended if Fremont releases dozens of such brews and hypes them until the cows come home. Yes I want to try them but if it doesn't work out, thems the breaks. They have demonstrated such hood will not just in the community at large but within our ranks of beer geeks. What other high profile member of the community engages us the way @Texwild does? He's already stated that he would work hard to ensure some of us got bottles. Who else engages us this way?

I've had lots of brew tonight, enjoying my new Bellingham locale. Please excuse me if this is less than coherent.
