Good morning BAs! Finally a typical summer day here in NW PA - cold, overcast, threatening rain - most of us locals can go outside now. Today's breakfast beer:



I love the artwork and commentary on this can - this poor bastard looks so resigned to his fate! And "Mortal tested...Goat Lord approved"! Sheer genius! I had only one other can that I've saved - now I have two! And what's inside the can isn't too shabby either.

I don't own a pilsner glass but as I recall Wurzburger Hofbrau was a pilsner (and a lousy one at that) that they pushed on us GIs stationed in Wurzburg so...

 

Kona Brewing Castaway IPA
6% 50 IBU



Appearance: Nice gold color, decent white cap and lacing.

Aroma: Floral hops, melon, some earthiness, hint of pineapple, conifer, no apparent malt.

Taste: "Assertive hop flavor and aroma" is how the brewer describes this brew and that's correct. Hops front, middle and finish, a conifer hop bitterness in the aftertaste. It seems to start with floral hops and build to finish with stronger hop tones. Malt is present in the body but contributes little to the taste.

Texture: Good body and full feel, nice actually.

Overall: It will run a close race with other IPAs but not set the pace. Nice enough but really just another hoppy pale malt. Of course, it is an IPA and will put a bitter beer face on a willing accomplice who promptly went back to her Coors Light.

 

Day off with the family, going to see Finding Dori in a few hours on this cloudy day.
