If I understand NC law correctly, no open containers on public property and Beer retailers can only open/serve what they sell means no Beer sharing in establishments. Must find a private room, property someplace to do a beer share.

Some years ago, I was in State College, PA. and was in a pizza place on the one side of the street that could sell beer. I never quite figured that one out. Any help? Also, does Ohio still mandate that retail pricing on an item- beer/wine- be the same at all outlets?

    NC:
My wife has mobility issues, yet I can't go to the bar and get two pints and carry one to her. They will let me buy two, but I have to make two trips, even if I carry her ID as proof someone is with me, or if she can be seen by the employee from the bar.

Someone working in a brewery can wear a t-shirt with the brewery name/logo on it, but they are not allow to wear a t-shirt for a specific brew from that brewery, such as an IPA shirt/hoodie/hat.

Surprisenly there are far better 4% ABV beers brewed outside of Utah. You'd think the Utah breweries would have nailed it but IMO that is not the case. I mean a 4% stout? No thanks.

Breweries must be excluded from that rule, since I have purchased multiple beers in the past and carried back to my table. Flights are also common at most breweries here, and that would be a violation if that is the law.

I'm interested in exploring more low abv beers than I have access to here, but they are a challenge to find. Mind naming some those 4% beers that are out there?

The cooking "wine" has so much salt in it, by design, that nobody in their right mind would drink it. Really shouldn't cook with it either. A case where the ridiculous law creates an unhealthy situation. ; )
The beer/wine & spirits divide has one strange quirk : both can sell hard cider.

Breweries must contract with a distributor to get their product to market. There are several distributors (very territorial) to chose from. A retail venue must contract with 1 or (if financially strong enough) more distributors to provide product to their business. It can and does happen that an independent brewery cannot get its product distributed to some local retailers because of "exclusive" territories and contracts demanded by distributors of both Brewers and retailers.

& You'd think, if there was any limit, it would be no sales after a given time, to give the 9-5/Mon-Fri majority a better chance at not being hungover Monday morning. Guessing the before restriction was to benefit the preacher lobby.

I liked Payette Rodeo Rye from Idaho. I loved Temperence Brewing Greenwood Beach Bonde from Illnois. New Glarus has nailed it with the Berliner Weiss. The BaBa black lager and the WYLD pale ale from Uinta is okay.

But that should be your choice , not a mandate from the state. Seems like a way to ensure you drink more beer, & maybe have a beer at a bar, then drive home. Seems contrary to what most alcohol laws ostensibly intend. ; )

Mississippi is the worst. We still can't sell beer at breweries. We're now the only state in the country where you can't buy a pint or flight at the brewery or take some home. You can buy a "tour" and get 6 six ounce pours plus the tour. Nuts!

There are beers I will drink 24 of over the course of a year. Certainly Lagunitas Little Sumpin Sumpin, which my wife loves. Maybe JA Hoponious Union. But these beers are best consumed fresh, so I will never buy more than 6 at a time. If I bought a case of anything, I'd have to give away half of it.

Back to bashing Utah some more -- I found out a few years ago while traveling through the state and stopping at Epic to try their beers that you can't have more than two beers in front of you, so a sampler 'flight' is really more like a sampler 'walk.' Order two, drink two, order two, drink two, order two...... I don't know if that policy has changed since then.

Yup i agree with the bold, for sure, didn't mean to imply otherwise, i was just disagreeing with the post that said "it would suck to have to buy a whole case of a single brew". To me it doesn't suck, i prefer it to buying singles and 6packs and stuff.

I don't think the law was in place to make me drink more though, and i'm not sure i follow on the "maybe have a beer at the bar then drive home" part. If you wanna explain that a little more i'm all ears, and cheers, to beers.

We're different in our drinking habits obviously but we both like Sumpin Sumpin so we can be best friends, i buy fresh cases of it all the time and consume them quickly. Too quickly maybe. Cheers to beers and wives that like good ones

@Vason when did Ohio change their ABV law?

New York has (had?) the same law. It is illegal to serve alcohol within 200 feet of a church or school. This issue recently reared its head in my area as a bar/restaurant was opening within 200 feet of a church. I think (maybe?) the law was recently changed to allow liquor-serving places to open within 200 feet of a church or school as long as the church/community agreed to allow it.

Never cook with a wine you wouldn't drink or offer to wine drinking friends.
