I have made a concerted effort to knock down my collection. I've gone from 350 to 115. It's been a tough job, but somebody had to do it.

keeping it under 3 cases mainly for space and because in reality most beers don't age that well. I've learned over the years what I personally think does well with age and what doesn't. Have some experiments going as well which I find the most fun and rewarding.

While in the back of my mind I'd love to have 100s of bottles sitting around to pick from, I know that I wouldn't get around to finishing them all in an optimal time.

Right now, counting each bottle (and Im including cans because its all the same to me) I've got well over a hundred. However, a big chunk of that is for parties today and tomorrow so it should balance back out.

As for what is us usually on hand. I'd say its about 75-100 with about 75 percent of that being various beers that are aging in my "cellar" for the fall, winter, or future (barley wines, BA stouts/porters, Flanders Reds, and a variety of Belgians). Of that 75% I'd say most of it is bombers, although some of the barley wines are 12 oz bottles. Roughly 25% is beers that I drink fresh/every day (IPAs, pilsners, and some belgians). Of that 25% most are 12 or 16 oz bottles/cans with maybe 5 or 6 bombers. I tend to avoid bombers I need to drink fresh, but some of Chicago's best breweries are putting out great IPAs in bombers so I always have a few on hand.

For me, I have to keep the "cellar" limited to the 4 boxes I have in the basement just because we don't have space. So occasionally if its getting too big, I'll pull some stuff and drink it.

Probably a little over 150. I'll be buying less shelf stouts his winter.

I'd guesstimate 300-350. Drank two of those last night so I guess I'm heading in the right direction?

I only hold onto barrel aged bottles, almost 100 right now, but there is never more than two of the same kind/year. Most are single bottles, bought two drank one right away and hope I remember a few years from now what it tasted like fresh.

I know three people that have well over a thousand bottles in storage, one tends to buy by the case, the others pick up 3-4 at a time.

    I voted 26 -50 as I have 49 bottles (including two cans).

Since I moved into my house about a year and a half ago I've been drinking this down from the next range of 50-100. Most of this drinking down was related to celebration of various milestones that have occurred during this time, such as buying a house, 30th birthday, and having my first child. I'm in restocking mode
    now.

too many... had a '14 Labyrinth last night and oxidation was the overpowering flavor drowning out all the rest, trying to thin the herd presently but also enjoy the hunt and purchasing... the struggle is real

What is the correct beer count to have in fridge? That would be whatever you can consume / share so it doesn't get old/unfresh.

What is the correct beer count to have in your cellar? Exactly the same answer. For big beers recommend most (i.e. 90%+ turnover at 2 years max. Perhaps keep 1 out of 10 beers or less to try to see what its like beyond the 2 year marker. Otherwise you are risking a lot of wasted money on beer that falls off.

Fridge beer, I rarely am over 12.

Cellar, I'm actually built to a level to be able to beer 1-2 new beers a month to share with friends that are each at approx. the 1 year aged marker (or slightly longer/slightly less) and a few scattered repeat big beer buys to enjoy for myself as I desire (like many Founders, DFH 12oz bottles, Apt 12 etc.). For me that is about 15-25 beers give or take in cellar and seems to be a nice place to be without worrying about overstock.

I tend to refrigerate any beer that is not a stout or brett, and then any stout/brett I plan to drink in the next week. I keep about 8-10 different beers in the fridge so I have several to choose from and so I have a variety to offer guests. Guests better like stouts though! I either buy singles to try (not cellared) or packs of my favorites which are cellared.

I've got two 5ft long-2 foot deep shelves in my friends basement that are packed full (I actually had trouble putting 4 new bottles on it yesterday), probably 20-25 bottles stashed in a walk-in cooler at work, and a bunch of "drinkin'" beers in the fridge at home. Plus maybe 10-15 bottles at home that I've pulled from my friends house, and stuff I grab when I see it. So much beer.

I have a full size fridge in the garage, and 2 dorm size fridges in my basement. Plus, my "cellar" which consists of 4 boxes also in my basement. I chose the 100-250 option but having just gotten back from Asheville and Atlanta with a side stop in SC, that number is probably low. :flushed:

50-100, porbably around the 90 range, down from a lot higher. Went through a concussion last year and still can't drink as much as I used to and have gone weeks without a beer which made me really appreciate the beer I have and reminded me to drink it! There's no point in having a huge stockpile and being afraid to open some of the rarer bottles which I was guilty of, but now my mentality is why not enjoy it now with friends and it's a lot more fun.

Right now I have only 5 cans of beer in my fridge. Mostly because I have 3 gallons of beer in growlers.
