    Happy Fourth, BA!

Early start, but there's work waiting outside--can't hit up the cookouts later, if I don't make enough progress on the yard/deck beforehand. First things first--need to put up a new mailbox. Breakfast while the cement is drying on the post. After that, it'll time to rebuild some stairs.

Smoked a shoulder yesterday, so we could enjoy it today! Used local kiawe wood, pecan, and apple wood as well. Used my Texas style rub on it, turned out magnificently.

Of course you can't smoke some meat with out enjoying a cold one! This was my last one from home, one of my favorite IPAs from Charleston. Good old fashioned East Coast IPA. before they got fruity and hazy. #properglassware

    Currently enjoying this as well...

    Happy Fourth, BAs!
I'm going to be doing a lot of driving today, so I'm starting light with this decent gose from Rising Tide. For the record, they brewed this with free-range Maine seawater.

    Enjoy the day!

Right? Wife is super pregnant, so she's throwing work on top of work, in efforts to get as much done as possible before the baby arrives early next month. No rest for the weary.

Tired Hands Ourison. And to think that I was worried that I wouldn't be able to drink the whole bottle by myself...

Good Morning BA, I hope everyone has a great holiday! Stay safe and enjoy your time with family.

Finishing off my cellar clear-out stash this morning:

This is still tasting great. Flavors of big rum, pineapple, grapefruit, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, pine, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, toasted oak, and light vanilla. Moderate amount of pine/citrus rind bitterness and rum/oak spice; with a balanced sticky/resinous and creamy/silky medium-full bodied mouthfeel. Light warmth of rum barrel alcohol, with minimal booziness. Very smooth sipping. Would still pick a couple more up while they are around. Definitely way mellowed out on the rum booze than it was fresh; while still having a good amount of IPA/fruit bitterness.

Glad this is back in season! Big flavors of juicy mango, apricot, pineapple, grapefruit, lemon zest, orange peel, and pine hops; honey, bread, and light caramel malt; and herbal/floral/grassy hop notes. Good sized pine/rind bitterness; sticky/resinous mouthfeel with light malt creaminess. Light-moderate increasing bitter dryness. Such a fantastic DIPA. I love Chillwave more, but this is still always amazing. The main difference is Simcoe hops here, vs Mosaic in Chillwave.

Fantastic batch this year. Flavors of huge dark roasted coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa, vanilla, toffee, molasses, toast, dark bread, bourbon, oak, and light dark fruit. Light roasted bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish; with a really great balance of the coffee/cocoa, malt, and barrel flavors; along with roasted coffee bitterness/sweetness after the finish. Medium-full bodied with a great creamy/silky mouthfeel. Looking forward to the next release. The Raspberry and Chai are my favorites of all of the variations so far, but they are all worth buying regardless. Just got the Raspberry Lemon version last week, looking forward to it.

Found more bottles of this, so amazing! Flavors of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toasted dark bread, and light nutty/charred malts; with balanced grapefruit, orange peel, pine, and floral hops. Medium roast and pine bitterness; great creamy mouthfeel with a fair amount of hop stickiness and slight roast chalkiness. Lightly drying. Just as amazing as I remember when I reviewed it 3 years ago! At release this is a straight up Black IPA, which is how I reviewed it. Now, it is a bit more toned down; but still has plenty of C hop character going on, with great robust malt complexity.

    Cheers

Hoppy Fourth everybody! I invited this guy to the party.

Straight to Ale Monkey's Uncle Imperial IPA
    8%, heavy hops

Burnished gold leading toward red, bright cap with very good lacing. The aroma is surprisingly bright, the hops jump out in an earthy, spicy way and malt quickly follows. Very good first impression. Some floral, hint of conifer, solid without being heavy.

Solid malt here with hop support. This is bigger, bolder and stronger, a true Imperial brew. The website says 8%, no mention I can find of IBUs, hops are there but not intrusive, certainly not the focal point, malt is main and hops play a supporting role. Mid palate hops arrive and sing the way to the finish. Lots of hops but bitterness is noticeable only in the aftertaste where it lingers just slightly. Pretty full texture.

Now, I can take hops as well as the next guy, I mean when you open the can this one hits you with a hop aroma discernable three feet away, yet that's just part of the picture. As you glass then lift to sip you're thinking hops but no, what presents is rich malt with hops following. Bit of a surprise but a nice one. Full on malt, good hop counterpoint, this one's a winner.
