A lot like NC. Beer and Wine in grocery stores, bottle shops, convenience stores (some stock a lot of different craft beer). Growlers, grumblers, crowlers (32oz can's drawn from tap and sealed at the bar).

Liquor only in state controlled ABC stores.

Ah, except in Springdale. I've purchased package on a Sunday from Sunset Liquors at US 71, and I believe County Line as well.

Good call. There are a few cities exempted. Eureka Springs, Altus, Springdale, and Tonitown.

We really need to get rid of dry counties. It's really indefensible.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Minnesota in this thread yet.

Liquor stores are closed Sunday. This is a remnant from the "blue laws" days. It sucks. At least we're moving in the right direction, and the brewpubs can sell growlers on Sunday now. That was a big deal last year. Montgomery Brewing was the first to have Sunday sales under this law, and the place was packed to the gills. I drove 2 hours to participate in it (see my avitar).

I hope someday that the liquor stores can be open on Sunday here.

There isn't a single brewery or beer you would want a case of? Why???
Anyways... I understand they're working on the growler law, and there's a petition going around to re-allow happy hour.
The ownership thing was changed a few years ago, it went up incrementally, I think the limit is 5 now; Gordon's in Waltham/Newton/Watertown is at least that.
Your point still remains, that the laws currently on the books need some review. Trader Joes sells Beer and wine in Framingham and Cambridge, and adds liquor in Coolidge Corner. The 3 Wegmans now open (Burlington, Northboro and Brookline) have full licenses, I wonder if the one in construction in Natick (Natick Maul) will get one as well - former JC Penny site, it's a HUGE space. AFAIK, no Stop & Shops have it, Whole Foods in Dedham sell beer & wine, I think there are a couple others.

In CA I'd have to say we have next to no restrictions whatsoever beyond: last call around 1:30 AM, gas stations cannot sell hard alcohol, and a hard alcohol license requires a different permit than a beer/wine permit/license. Other than that I can buy any quantity I want of whatever I want, anywhere I want (well you know what I mean!).

Someone commented earlier saying CA breweries wouldn't fill "out of state growlers". I don't think there's any such law or truth to this...I think this may have been misconstrued by breweries that simply won't fill other brewery's growlers. I think I've seen some that will fill other's growlers if the name has tape over it but to the best of my knowledge growler fill limitations are on a case by case basis from every brewery.

I haven't purchased a case of beer in over 20 years. I don't like drinking the same beer all the time, and mostly limit consumption to weekends. So, at the max, I might have two of the same beers in a weekend. Since I drink more IPAs than anything, it makes sense to buy small quantities fresher.

Trader Joes at Patriot Place has beer and wine. The one in Shrewsbury never did when I lived there.

In Texas the laws are pretty relaxed, you can buy the standard container sizes and combinations at almost any grocery store, liquor store, or convenience store, except on Sunday before noon. You can get kegs at distributors, and growlers from craft breweries. As always, the selection varies widely from one place to the next. The only thing I don't like is that the on-line stores don't ship to Texas. I'm not sure of the basis for this; I'm betting it has to do with either protecting distributors and/or retailers or with collecting taxes.

    The preachers hate the competition.

Several years ago I was in a grocery store on Sunday, just after noon, when beer sales can begin on Sunday, checking out the beer selection for something new. Saw a guy with his grocery cart come into the beer section, and very quickly put two 6-packs into paper grocery bags and folded the bag closed. He had apparently picked the bag up as he entered the store.

Curiosity got the best of me so I followed him and he then went to a check out and I have never seen anyone look so uncomfortable when the checker had to take them out of the bag to pass the 6-packs over the scanner.

Grocery stores around here even have kegs in the large walk-in beer cooler, and a sign you can pre-order whatever you want so they will have in. People also pick them and torpedoes up directly from the breweries.

Georgia laws regarding brewery taprooms defy explanation and common sense.

I'm guessing it's a local nickname for a sixtel - kinda unnecessary (3 syllables vs. 2?), but it's better than calling them "logs"

(What do I win if I get it right?:grinning:)

Tall but thin kegs, typically 1/6 barrel, popular for kegerators as 2 or 3 torpedoes will fit in most.

You get to have a beer? I hate the term sixtel to begin with, but calling them torpedoes is worse. They would make terrible anti-ship weapons, what with the flat front and all, it would take much more energy to propel it through the water.

All right! :grinning: (Oh, wait, I've already got one... but since it's almost finished...).

Yeah, it's a clunky name but I was surprised (and, so, more accepting) when I found out how old it was. 1/8's were also called "Eightels" (sometimes spelled "eighthel") but that was much less common - "pony" keg was the more popular name for an eighth (3 7/8 gallon) barrel keg. .

IIRC, wooden kegs were used as mines in harbors at one point... so there's a related history there.

I don't know, when I hear "torpedo" I think of the SN IPA and the unit that inspired that name - but, then, I'm always thinking about beer.
