Whatever the normal pour is there. 8-10 oz

Was surprised to see this still readily available this afternoon after work. But then I realized, it's $42 a bottle, and WW did also drop in distro 2 other new sours and another $10 375 bottle this very day, just a week after a bunch of other Lost Abbey shit hit here for the first time. So yeah, it makes sense.

Fortunately Ridgewood was doing small pours of it so I got to try it. Very damn good, but just don't need any $40 bottles right now unless it's some kind of legit lambic, I mean damn.

I saw this on a store shelf in Kitty Hawk NC and there was no mention of Wicked Weed anywhere on it, just a $45 bottle of Ad Idem from The Lost Abbey. What's up with that?

The Wicked Weed logo is on there.

The price is likely due to a few factors, mostly that its Lost Abbey. There were people buy cases of it at the Golden release, so it seems some people think it's worth it. (About 2x the price I am willing to pay for it though, I would rather have Garcon for a 1/4th of the price).

Yeah the WW logo is on the front, but it's a little fainter looking on the bottle than on that pic. I overlooked it at first as well.

$41 has some sticker shock but its the same cost per oz as the Angels and arguably better

    Angels are $27 for a 500ml?

    Your math is off
$20 for a 500 ml since bottles were sold outside of the pre-sale

$23/16.907 oz is $1.36 per oz
$41/25.361 oz is $1.62 per oz
If the Ad Idem was a 500ml bottle, you would pay $4.40 more for the bottle

To be completely honest I was thinking Angels were 375's but, my point still is, if someone willingly paid $1.36 per oz for an Angel x6 or x12 (which I did for every Angel last year), why would the same person not pay $1.62 for the Ad Idem?

The $ per ounce is not that far different from WW's absolutely most expensive stuff, no. But a $40+ bottle is a deterrent to someone who is just looking to try it, bottom line. Which is why they're still sitting at every shop in town.

That being said, I don't begrudge anyone who wants to snag one if you can swing it, it's very good. I'll take Garçon de Ferme as has been mentioned until the last one is gone from shelves.

During a tour at the Funkatorium the guide claimed that Lost Abbey was pushing the higher price and that they were going for $50 at the Lost Abbey location. $40 was WWs "compromise" price. Can't verify obviosuly, just what the guide said.

If it were $1.60 per oz., I'd be willing. But the $1.62 per oz. just pushes the limits.

Lost Abbey sold it for $41 as can be seen here:

    http://lostabbey.com/ad-idem-a-vision-from-the-lost-abbey-and-wicked-weed-to-be-released/

I heard most shops were going to charge in the mid-30's based on their normal margins, but were asked to charge a similar price to that $41. Asked by whom, I don't know.

I 100% agree on the sticker shock of the bottle. Garcon was an unbelievable steal at that price and i wish i had access to more. IMO Garcon really hurt the image of the Golden Angel, and im not even talking about the 16' infected ones, but what I paid for the 15' golden. I would drink Garcon over Golden 9 out of 10 times and I love Golden.

I'll agree the price tag certainly deters people from purchasing a bottle but I think the reputation of the beer itself comes into play, it's a Lost Abby/Wicked Weed collaboration with little to no reviews on Beer Advocate, it's not getting a lot of buzz, etc. Did I hesitate to purchase an onsite bottle of Cable Car? Hell no, that's probably a once in a lifetime bottle that's highly regarded but this doesn't have the same appeal.

At the Golden Angel release I overheard someone in the bottle shop say that Lost Abbey set the price at 41 and if it was up to WW the bottle would have been a high 20s bottle.

You all are forgetting the fact that WW sent beer over 2500+ miles to southern California to blend...also Walt flew in to CA and lost abbey put him up, same with Tomme in AVL..this makes for an expensive beer...

Ignoring the price I thought it was a wonderful beer when I had it at the funkatorium

Maybe they should have put those extensive travel details on the label to help it sell quicker? Just saying, if I could get an itemized expense report for Walt's trip then it would definitely make the price a little easier to swallow. They must have had his ass at the Ritz-Carlton!
