Good morning NBS, thanks to @cavedave for the start today, love the phrasing.
We are back from a road trip that had us threw PA,WV,OH,and upstate NY. Lots of fun and wonderful
breweries as well. Our friends at Jackie O's were more than gracious with their time and hospitality. Great Lakes
was a wonderful stop as well. Today we are headed off to day 3 of the Green River Festival here in WMass. an
amazing 3 days of music and fun. All that said we are here for a new beer so today's offering is from Jackie O's.
Dark Apparition base version, a rich, flavor packed stout on this cool grey day.

    Dark Apparition

    Jackie O's Pub & Brewery
Russian Imperial Stout / 10.50% ABV

    4.1/5 rDev -1.7% | Avg: 4.17
    look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Poured from a bottle into the modified tulip glass.
A - It's dark in there! A beautiful mocha cap rides on top of what looks like a glass of bakers chocolate. The lacing forms
broad stripes as the experience progresses.
S - Dark fruits, fig, raisin. Earthy nose with toffee and dark chocolate mingling quite adroitly with coffee, dark sugar, and molasses. There
is a bit of that hot alcohol tingle on the nose, ever so gentle.
T - That cornucopia of stout goodness, rich malt backbone, dark roast without being overbearing, Semi sweet chocolate, red raspberry, pumpernickel toast, with more fig spread. A nice alcohol warmth resides as the experience unfolds.
F - Medium in body, gently carbonated, the start is sweet, then the fully coated palate responds to a perfectly applied bitterness. The alcohol provides a sweep at the end almost enough to clear out that rich mix. Lingering for some time is a slightly bitter chocolate thread.
O - This offering , displays all the elements of a big stout with deft skill. A body that seems light is rich in flavors, full in its impact delivering a full RIS experience. A wonderful warmth from the ABV sits in the correct place. The brewers craft is on full display with this offering.

Do you have a retailer(s) that you regularly talk and buy beer from? I obtained my 12-pack by specifically requesting this beer from my local beer retailer.

    Cheers!

Greetings NBS. Kind of a somber week, but hopefully we can get it right as a society and move forward. Weekend weather has been about as good as I can ask for with 80 degree temps, low humidity, and plenty of sunshine.

Tyranena is a small local brewery that made a decision (in past 18 months) to have continuous small batches of outstanding beer. This morning I enjoyed an Imperial Brown ale aged in Brandy barrels. It pours cola brown with some dark amber highlights and a 2.5 finger sandy colored head. Head is foamy and holds retention with webs of lacing on my glass. Aroma is sweet with the caramel and bread malts. Some nutty notes along with dried fruit and oak. Flavor is deep and rich with sweet bread, caramel, brown sugar followed by the brandy, dried fruit and oak. Feel is smooth and medium bodied with soft carbonation. I found the imperial brown to impart the brandy notes nicely and make this enjoyable to sip.

It'll get here, always surprised when it shows up on the east coast before the state that borders MN.

That was one of my first Belgian beers, and it's high time I try it again.

Devil’s Tramping Ground has a thick, slightly off-white head, a clear, bubbly, burnished-gold appearance, and fairly heavy lacing left behind on the glass. The aroma is of strong, sweet barley, yeast, and straw. Taste is of sugary, strong, alcoholic malt, some horse blanket, mild hop bitterness, and white bread crust. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy, and Devil’s Tramping Ground finishes medium dry and boozy. RJT

It's fridge clean out new beer (or malt beverage) Sunday.

First up is one of these hard cherry sodas.

What is the protocol for drinking this? Can I use ice cubes? Should I add Ameretto, light it and call it a flaming Dr. Pepper? Should I have frosted the mug?

All kidding aside, the smell is enticing, as it does smell like cherry soda until this odd chemical thing starts in.

Taste begins like a flat cherry soda until it takes on an ice cubes melted taste which gives way to what can best be described as ink.

This isn't a good thing. My stomach feels less good now. I'm dumping this.

I've had 2 or 3 of their beers, and I remember liking them
but I was still new to Belgians and it was 12-13 years ago, so I was either too enthusiastic at the time or maybe they've changed up in the intervening years. I'll have to seek some out and try them again.

I've got a lot of thoughts on this one -- probably too many to get down in a short jot, here -- so I'm saving that for the review I do with the next can I get my hands on (and hopefully it's fresh one!) But the beer is new to me -- and many others:

About to throw some ribs on the grill so they can be ready tonight for dinner. Going to enjoy one of the best out there while I do!

Aventinus pours almost coffee brown with similar clarity and a two finger off-white head with decent retention and great lacing. Sweet malty aroma, bready with hints of banana, cloves, chocolate, dark fruits, brown sugar, and caramel. The taste is rich and bold with hefty amounts of malt, sweet brown bread. banana, plums, caramel, cloves, tobacco, chocolate, anise, apple skin, and some nice subtle citrus hop notes. The mouthfeel is thick and chewy with prickly carbonation and a creamy finish. Absolute joy to drink on any given day of the year.

Might be the newness to Belgians. For the two I've reviewed, I thought the Delirium Noel was good but wasn't quite up to the bar set by the Corsondonk Christmas Ale and while I thought the Delirium Tremens was better, it also wasn't quite up to the bar set by Duvel. Be interested to hear what you think after re-trying those you've had.

Mid morning pick me up along the Pilsner line . . .

Appearance: Light gold with white cap and good lacing.

Aroma: Rather full on hops with malt underlying. Spicy, slightly earthy in a rich way, good hop balance.

Taste: It's in there alright, bursting forth with malt carrying the hops along. It leans, no, marches toward IPA territory leaving the Pils location behind while not altogether leaving a Pils character. If a Pils took up bodybuilding this might be the result.

    Texture: Full medium.

Overall: If I'm in the mood for a traditional European Pilsner this isn't one I would reach for. If I wanted something beefier along that vein this one will do.

Geeky question, I know (not that it's ever stopped me before) but have you ever taken one of each of the different barrel aged versions of the Imperial Brown and done a comparison? I think seeing the different characteristics of the different types of barrels they use would be very interesting and possibly quite illuminating.

Wow, another NBS is here again. Time be flying! Thanks @cavedave for once again setting the tone for today's thread and a happy belated birthday to you as well.

A beautiful sunny and seasonably warm day here that started with a 4.25 mile run to help burn off yesterday's fun. That calls for a beer befitting the occasion! Another one from @beertunes called Shoe Toss. It's a rye IPA with no apparent bottle date, an abv. on the label of 6.8%. Let's pour this 500ml mystery into the tulip glass and learn more.

It pours a transparent brilliant amber color leaving a generous two fingers of creamy white foam. It settles after a couple of minutes to a ring around the glass with heavy lacing. The smell is rye spice forward along with some grapefruit and cereal/malt. Taste begins with grapefruit followed by a heavy dose of floral. There's a hint of orange zest and lastly the rye. The feel is oily, light and palate pleasing with a touch of hop bitterness and a dry finish.

A very well done rye IPA in my world! The appearance is beautiful and while the smell is on the weak side, the flavor and feel really deliver. This one is definitely worth trying if you love the style. My score was a 4 / rDev+1.3%. Thanks Terry for another quality beer!

Ok, got that last one in the drain and the rear view. I have moved along to this Olde Mecklenburg Barrel Aged Baltic Porter.

Dark brown with red fringes, this began with a thick beige head that left no lacing.

Smells of vanilla, fig and cherries mainly. Continue to inhale it and we've stumbled across a bit of bitterness that takes almost a floral shape.

Immediate taste is a pretty punishing bourbon smack that gives way to some of that vanilla and fig that was in the nose.

Feels immediately smooth and silky. As that aspect fades,it becomes all sorts of dry. Like Sahara in a bottle.

All in all, this is a very fine beer and despite being a BA'd version, it still maintains all the characteristics of a Baltic Porter.

Hey guys, I'm using my phone right now so I'll have to get back to reading and liking and interacting later in the day. Hoping to go enjoy the Bastille Day festivities in NYC with my daughter and then maybe hit Queens for the Colombian festival (and possibly a visit to Singlecut or LIC Beer Project). I'm sneaking in this pilsner from Threes Brewing in Brooklyn called Yclept.

Cheers to @JackHorzempa as we continue the Summer of Pils!

This brew pours a cloudy orange with a fluffy white head, some of which sticks around until the end, lots of lacing and more carbonation than one would expect from a Hefeweizen.
The smell is funky and wheaty with some orange and bananas.
The taste is full of sweet wheat with a bit of a citric acid bite. The orange and banana taste dominate with the finish being slightly dry and giving you a second dose of citric acid bite.
Overall this is a simple, easy to drink Hefeweizen which, according to the label, follows the Reinheitsgebot.

I was just telling a coworker about Luponic Distortion and how it rotates its hop mash around every 60 days. I popped into a liquor store on the way home to be greeted by 6 packs of Revolution No. 002 on the shelves. Let's get into this.

Firestone Walker's Luponic Distortion. Canned on 6/27/2016.

Look: It pours a clear, absolutely translucent dark yellow with a 12mm white head. Head retention is actually quite nice, with the final ring of head lasting a while. Lacing is left spattered all over the glass after every sip.

Aroma: As would be expected of a beer with a rotating hop mash, the aroma is hoppy, but delicate. Specific notes of pine, resin, and orange/citrus peep through with a subtle base tone of biscuit malts.

Taste: The beer starts off a little spicy, with very subtle, delicate hop and malt notes providing a well balanced flavor profile. Hops center on citrus and resin, with malts on the spicy, biscuit side. As was the case with No. 001, the flavor profile is delicate. Even more so than other IPAs. It certainly feels pleasing on a hot summer day.

Mouth feel: Perhaps the most surprising part of this beer is the mouth feel. Despite the delicate notes in the aroma and flavor profile, the mouth feel has a filling, velvety texture, with a medium-thin body. It keeps the beer pleasing to drink, without being over powering.

Overall: It's a very fun brew. The rotating hop mash is great to sample new hops for anyone new or old to drinking craft beer. The delicate body is welcome for session drinking, but a bit lackluster for really feeling out different hop notes. Fortunately, the light aroma and flavor keep this beer easy to pound in the summer, which makes it a good thing the hop mash rotates so often, otherwise it'd be easy to get burnt out on this beer.

    Scores: 4 | 4.25 | 3.75 | 4 | 4 | BA Score: 3.96 | Avg Score: 4.03 | rDev: -1.7%
