Happy Sunday all! Enjoying The Conversion from Logsdon, a bright, tart wild saison. So many great beers like this coming out from some surprising places now! Amazing that so few breweries were doing this even 5 or 10 years ago.

Yuengling Summer Wheat a beer recommended BA @drtth. Yuengling calls this brew a Traditional Weizen Beer. I don't know if that is true but don't care. This is a very nice Summer beer. It's light bodied refreshing and enjoyable to drink. At $6.99 an a great buy,. Thank Drtth.

This is an improvement. Too sweet and a bit artificial to be great, but still an improvement.

I'll agree with that, Yuengling Summer Wheat is a very nice brew regardless if it's a traditional Weizen or not.

Grabbed this one at my grocery store earlier this week, Revolver's Anodyne (a wheatwine, my first):

Anodyne is tasty. Big sweet biscuity malt aroma pops off it even when it's very cold. Looks and smells a bit like a braggot, but then you sip and the hops attack -- bitter floral and a sweet orange flavor mixed with something tropical chew into your tongue. The 50 IBU rating is real ... quite a potent bit of hops. And that "tropical" flavor is familiar but I can't place it. I've had Nelson Sauvin before and it's good ... describing it is not so good for me.

    The review:
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/30128/175812/?ba=Premo88#review
    3.89 (-3.2%)

It's not a gaudy number, the 3.89 rating, but I like the beer quite a bit, and it keeps Revolver's track record with me perfect so far. They make quality stuff.

Sent this dude home with his mommy yesterday after a fun week and a piece of watching him:

Greeting NBS family. Wow...another awesome lead from @cavedave followed by some great posts. I have not gone beyond the first page and know I will be in for some great reading!

Sitting up here in Maine just chillin'. Light rain this morning gave way to a mix of clouds, drizzle, and an ocassional peak from Mr. Sun. About 63 F out, so hardly abeach day, but we are away from the rat race! Sonny boy and GF are watching the house and daughter girl is there for some reason, but as long as the animals and vegetables remain alive and the house is standing, it is all good. Grocery shopped in the rain...lobsters for tonight, clams for a boil tomorrow at half what it would cost us back home. Got briefly ambitious and fished for an hour or so. Dropped a jig in the water to get an idea of how deep, and got a small mackerel. OK...you are now bait...go find me a striped bass. Nothing else, but did see a harbor seal and a pair of eagles.

So...what is in the borrowed glass, you may ask?

This is an Allagash offering brewed with Maine ingredients and say hello to my little friend Brettanomyces. I am definitely diggin' this beer. The brett character is prominent but not dominant in the aroma, there is nice malty biscuit, some citrus notes. Peach and tropical fruits dance in the background and a little bit of peppery spice comes in. The head fell quickly but decided to hang out as a little thin splotchy layer. Pretty beer. The taste...another of those that morphs and I enjoy that a lot. Initially, it felt like the hops and the brett were at war, but the malt comes in and saves the day. Nothing like a little bread. There is a mildly spicey note on the finish, then some citrus and wine grape emerges at the end. I get grape notes in most Brett beers I have tried...reminds me of the pomace after the juice is pressed. Carbonation is lively, body is medium, yet it feels very soft. There is a little sweetness and a very nice earthy component. It is a shape-shifter...the flavors change in how they present themselves. I am feeling this landing in the mid-4's on the BA-scor-o-meter.

Speaking of bread, I know a lot of folks like the restaurant When Pigs Fly, but I will give some love to the bakery. We stop and stock up every time we go by there, even with yesterdays gnarly, rude crowds and us running late. Artisan bread at a fair price is pretty damned awesome.

12oz can poured into a snifter. Canning date of 6/14/16 printed on the bottom of the can.

Tomoka Brewing is a brewery in Port Orange, FL which is just south of Daytona Beach.

This white IPA is brewed with grapefruit peel and weights in at 7.1% ABV and 69 IBUs. The aroma is tropical fruits and citrus. The taste is very nicely balanced with some sweetness up front and a lot of bitterness from the hops and grapefruit peel in the finish. The mouthfeel is light bodied with a high level of carbonation.

Overall, a solid IPA that is worth a try.

I received this one rather serendipitously. Friends brought it back from Lake Mills on the way home from celebrating a friend's mother's 90th birthday. I have had a couple in this series from Tyranena and it is perfect for NBS.
Lives up to the series as it goes all over the place. The clearness of its amber color shows off the effervescent carbonation which creates plenty of clingy foam. It's lilac aroma subtly wafts promising little and does nothing to portend the flavor roller coaster. Good malt foundation that is laminated with layer upon layer of bitterness. "When will it stop?" I wonder as it clearcuts away every leaving a palate wrecking finish in its wake. You jump out and run to get back in line for another taste.

Greetings NBS! Slow sunday here for me after having way too much to drink last night while watching the UFC. Despite last night this gose was staring me down and sounded like the perfect hangover cure :stuck_out_tongue:

Coming in at 4.8% from Modern Times I present to you all...
    Fruitlands - Guava Passionfruit
    [IMG]

This pours beautifully. A hazy and murky golden color with very little head whatsoever after the initial pour. The smell is as advertised! Big on the passionfruit / guava and there is just a ton of tropical fruit aroma. The taste is supremely refreshing and tart. The guava is really coming through along with pineapple, melon, passionfruit, citrus, sea salt, and a little sourness at the end. It does have some white wine qualities also. It feels crisp and very carbonated / fizzy but it has a fuller feel to it than other goses I've had in the past.

This is an excellent beer to me and it would be awesome to have in cans on a hot day. It was like they melted a guava creamsicle into a beer and added some salt and tartness. I just took the last few sips now which makes it about a 2 hour beer which is a damn good sign of how hungover I was when I started this thing but it was a nice beer to sip and savor.

Overall I would say it is worth the $7 and I'll probably pick up another bottle or two. My favorite of the fruitlands series so far.

I've had a very crappy week, to say the least. Monday was hell at work. Sometime at work I tweaked my back. Tuesday-Thursday I was in pure agony. Went to the Chiropractor on Thursday (after my regular monthly appointment on Tuesday, that did little). What he did Thursday really set me back on the right track. So I'm almost normal today. One thing he recommended was take ibuprofin 3 times a day to reduce the swelling in my back. Well, drinking when taking so much isn't a good idea for the liver, so I had to miss a Founder's Tap Takeover at the local 7 West on Friday, and missed out on KBS on tap! I said F it, and skipped the ibuprofin today, and am feeling good now. So NBS is needed.

I was going to wait till after 7 to start, but I was dumb, and took off the metal cork stop on this bottle. When I was getting some water I hear a loud POP! I go back into the living room, and see the cork on the floor, and a gusher from the bottle, so time to start now.

I'm surprised that an aged IPA works, but this does. A good beer for NBS for me.

Good Sunday Evening NBSers And Thanks to @cavedave for the beer roll call this AM. Yes its been a hell of a week in this country. More then ever we need a leader to step forward and promote peace- not divisiveness. So far I don't see anyone stepping forward to take on this seemingly impossible task. So its in our hands- the people. Lets all see what we can do to try to get back to what this country is all about: Living in freedom without boundaries for every race, color, religious belief sexual or orientation etc. We have a major task to take on. I believe we can do it. Starts with our leaders so we need to keep that in mind when(or if) you pull the lever.
I was lucky enough to pick up two bottles of this while visiting the brewery in Maine in May. Its time to crack one of these:
FOUNDATION BREWING MOVEABLE TYPE SAISON Aged for one year before release on Brett. Bottled August 9th 2015.

First- yes its a bit of a foamer. Pours a hazy pale gold color not unlike a fruit juice. 1/2 "Head is white in color and hangs for a couple of minutes leaving spotty lacing.

Aroma is huge tropical fruit- Mango, Pineapple, passionfruit with nice sweet citrusy notes of red grapefruit and tangerines. Then there's the fresh cut hay and wet grassiness. Then the touch of biscuit/ fresh baked bread. Then the earthy funkiness of the Brett with a touch of white grape. Absolutely fabulous - and it just lasts.

Flavor follows with huge mouth filling tropical fruits a touch of sweetness from Pilsner malt, grassiness from hops- but just enough-, fresh herb- thyme I'm thinking, and a beautiful funky earthiness reminiscent of forest floor and or mushrooms. Slight pepper. The Flavor on this baby lingers for minutes. Absolutely delicious.

Feel is medium to low carbonation, dry and slightly peppery finish. Wonderful slow warming @7.9%

I'm thinking this is definitely in line for the finest beer I've had from this brewery- Epiphany being # 1( also one of my top favorites period) But if I'm going style this takes the top spot among saisons of had in recent memory. The time they patiently allowed this to mature with Brett produced a massively flavored but incredibly balanced brew that has an aroma that matches the flavor. Had I known I would have easily slapped down the money for a case of this beauty. Its a masterfully sculpted brew put together with patience and thought. Foundation produces quite the portofolio now! If I could share a pour virtually with you I know you would all be happy happy. Find it if you can-highly recommended .
And for NewOldVinylSunday I'm spinning Chicago- State of The Union. Terry Kath guitar, fantastic arrangements and a message.....
Hey have a great week and as always thanks for taking the time.

Greetings All from an unseasonably cool and cloudy Columbia Basin in Washington.

Today I chose Lavaman Red Ale. Part of a sampler case I picked up at Costco.
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/579/8410/

It's not a great red, a little weak on the hop profile for may taste, but it was a nice brew for this cloudy, cool and breezy July day. I would have more of this in the fall if it's available.

    Until next time,

    Happy Trails!

Happy NBS, everybody! I am freshly off work, enjoying a new Scotch-aged Stout this Sunday and getting ready to peruse all of your posts. I hope all of you are well.

This is a stout that I picked up from the last Dunham bottle release. I have heard great things about the last time they brewed this one so I'm hopeful.

The base beer was released aged in scotch and tokaji barrels. I am excited to try both of them. I decided to start with this one, though, since I don't think I've ever tried a scotch barrel beer. Not that I have tried a tokaji one, but I have never tried tokaji period.

It pours nice and immediately has a thin, woody, peat aroma, but nothing too strong. In general it is not too rich, not too thick, not too sweet. There is a lot of coffee and bitter chocolate with a pervasive scotch aromatic character underneath it all that makes itself known throughout the finish.

As it warms up it gains a little sweetness and some oomph in the feel department (just a tiny bit stickier). There also ends up being a slight dark fruit flavor which I didn't find to be bad, just unexpected. The main thing I would change is honestly the scotch. I feel like something sweet would prop is all up a tiny bit better. Makes me anxious to try the tokaji barrel one.

Whelp, enough rambling at you all. Cheers!
