Looking for open a tap/craft beer store. What technology will I need in terms of refrigeration if I'm looking for about 30 taps? What licenses do I need to get? What $$ investment should I be expecting to make? Anything I need to know about the distributors? Any other RELEVANT info from people in the industry is welcome!

    Thank you in advance.

I suspect you'll get a much higher yield of RELEVANT info from a site like this one:

    http://www.probrewer.com

(Also from your attorney who specializes in alcoholic beverages and from your accountant who will assist you in developing and/or evaluating your business plan.)

You want buy the beer from some breweries, right?
If the beer come with keg, you may need a cold room behind or near the tap I think.

As advised above if you are starting a tap/craft store then there are a lot of legal and financial pieces you need to work out elsewhere. Certainly the laws in New York will shape what you can do, and what your liabilities would be. I presume you came here for thoughts from consumers, so you can get some ideas for services, products, methods that we as consumers may be looking for or have enjoyed? While we can give you generalities in this forum, I'd suggest you start with the regional forum for New York since that will hit your customer base. I'd also suggest - if you haven't already - that you begin to visit taprooms, growler shops, and bottle shops in the area you are considering. Find out what successful competitors are offering that you'll want to match or beat, and look for holes where you can step in with something new. When you start narrowing things down, then come back to the nationwide forums to flesh out details.

I think OP is one and done here, but that is the best and most obvious question, though I don't think he said NYC.

If someone could also let me know how to successfully build and sell a $1bn+ start up as well, that would be cool. Try to keep it under 100 words though as I don't like to spend too much time reading shit

Making a small fortune in the beer business is easy. Just invest a large fortune.

@Krasota - That's a solid idea you have there! I know a ton of vendors (brewery equipment suppliers) I can forward to your way since I help finance their clients. If you're interested in me networking you with them to get some quotes I'd be more than happy to do that.

How's the local competition where you want to open? There's a really solid craft beer store around my way in San Diego and they're my go to for rare finds and delicious brews outside of the standard corner stores. Kudos to your idea.

I have a particular busy street in mind where I wouldn't have direct competition. The location or marketing is not an issue, I would like to learn more about equipment at this point of my research so I would love to be introduced and to get some quotes. Thanks!

@Krasota - I can absolutely help with that. Since I'm new to this website how can I message you my personal contact information so I can get started on introducing some vendors to you? Cheers!
