Headed to Ft. Collins in a few weeks. Will have time for one or two brewery tours. Last year I did an Odell tour. Plus, I visited New Belgium, FCB and Funkwerks. Of the breweries that I missed, what are the ones I should hit this year?
I'm going to Denver Tuesday and on the way back I plan on hitting Zwei (new to me) and Equinox. After that, Tap & Handle..
Zwei seems to a hit with everyone lately. Horse & Dragon. Grimm Brothers down in Loveland. Equinox. Tap n Handle is the bar to go to if you want to go that route. Can't argue with Bitterbill's schedule.
I really love Zwei. And of course Tap and Handle is my favorite bar. I went to Maxline Brewing yesterday and thought for a start up they were brewing some nice beer
BitterBill's schedule is really good. Tried an ESB and Oatmeal Stout from Maxline at the FortLove Brewer's Jamboree and both were excellent IMO. Been meaning to check out the taproom though, so I can't comment on what their set-up is like.
I'm still a big fan of Coopersmith's. They're kind of like what the Wynkoop was like at their very best. Good pub food and good everyday beers. While they don't always have any, they occasionally have BA and multiple-fermentation beers as well. If you're at Equinox, it's only like 50 yards away.
You must not have visited lately. The food is disgusting and the beer is extremely subpar. It exists for the rich people on the south end of town to come up and "go to a brewery" when they come to old town. Hit Horse and Dragon and Zwei. You don't need anything else when in town.
Three Four Beer Co also has an amazing tap list along with Tap and Handle at slightly better prices. $7 for an 8oz pour of Uncle Jacobs. Can't beat that!
It has been about 18 months. I don't make it up that way as much as I'd like these days. If it has gotten that bad, that's pretty disappointing. That always used to be my final stop - the fish & chips were killer.
I hit Coopersmith's last year. I came really close to visiting Zwei. I had some conversations with them on twitter. That sounds like the place to go. I've had friends bring me growlers from Horse and Dragon & Equinox. I've enjoyed them and they'll be second on my list if I have time.
I drank my one and only Pliny the Elder there on June 30th. It was worth 90% of the hype (the Pliny not Choice City). Green chili stew/soup/whatever is awesome there also. There's a sweet shop on the corner. Creme Brûlée is my biggest weakness.
The business meeting was from 1 to 5pm and not being a night person anymore(too old , I stopped at Zwei and Tap And Handle. The 2 beers at Zwei that I had were full on impressive. That Export Lager!!...only complaint I had was that the service was very slow whilst sitting at the bar. 2 tenders and they paid most of their attention to the the order here line. Very cool that they call their half Growlers, Howlers. How long have I been advocating that? Tap and Handle, I had to go for the Courage RIS on draught and it was awesome! The other beer I tried was Crooked Stave Petite Sour Blueberry and it was close to being my favourite blueberry beer of all time! Food needs work, service smacked of goodness.(Tuesday night so take that into account)
Jessup Farms is another good option. There are new to the scene but have been impressed with their stuff.
