A new Stone Brewing Co. IPA is being released to commemorate both the 20th anniversary as well as the company’s flagship San Diego brewery.

The new beer is named 20th Anniversary Citracado IPA, a 9 percent ABV double IPA brewed with Citra hops and avocado flower honey. The name of the IPA is taken from the location of Stone’s brewery which is located on Citracado Parkway, and is also a play on the two main ingredients in the beer.

“‘Cita’ refers both to the juicy gem of a hop and its citrusy (and tropical) aromas and flavors,” reads the beer label. “‘Cado’ inspired us to utilize wonderful, native avocado flower honey.”

According to the beer label filed with the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), 20th Anniversary Citracado IPA will be packaged in 22-ounce bottles and will be released in August.

Avocado honey is a very rich dark honey, similar to molasses

When I first saw this I was thinking (and kind of hoping) that it was going to have actual avocado in it, though I'm not sure how that would work.. Funny how it is their address too. Can't wait to try Stone's citra hopped avocado flower honey DIPA!

This will have to replace Ruinten in my bomber IPA line up.

The Thunderstruck was really good last year.

This has already begun shipping to Stone distributors, so it should be landing on shelves very shortly!

Tried this last night! It was ok but nothing special. Unfortunately the Citra hops are way to subtle for my liking. Also I think the malt has rye in it because it definitely has a distinct spiciness.
    I'm not a fan of rye IPA's
Rye in BBA stouts FTW however!!! Just my 2 cents...

I wonder if the spiciness is coming from the avocado honey? Honestly, you made me a bit more excited for this, as I am a fan of rye in...well...pretty much anything! Cheers!

Had one last night and really enjoyed it. Way smooth and easy to drink for a 9%er. On the sweeter side for a DIPA which may turn off some folks.
