Disabling Beer Karma

I don't need it, but I liked the last version (and the previous version, for that matter) enough to vote:

bring it back

 

Please, restore Beer Karma.

 

I've spent 2 years working on my karma to reach Poobah. Now that's all gone.

 

Beer Karma was one of the features of this site that convinced me to become a member and to stop lurking.

 

If you guys wanna revamp the points system that's cool, but I can't think of a single reason not to bring it back.

 

I want it back. I like watching my progression.

 

Like others, I was working to obtain poobah status and was really disappointed to come in here Friday and see it gone. People have complained about the likes, but postings and likes combined aren't enough points to obtain poobah. Yes trolling for likes occurs and more award points should be given for "higher level contributions" than just a mindless post or simple numerical beer rating. I think the most recent system was pretty good, but like most things, can be tweaked to improve performance. Goals are things for people to aspire to and leads to better beer advocates. I have full reviewed over 650 beers. Without this site and my desire to obtain that Poobah goal, I doubt I would have tried more than 20 or so new beers and certainly not the 100 styles I've had - some of which cost big bucks. Bring it back with some tweaks to push award level attainment coupled with a focus for more points for the "higher level contributions". AND THANK YOU for giving us this site!!

Beer Karma was a great motivator for me to contribute. It was fun. Fun is what keeps people happy. I am personally very disappointed that it was taken away.

I thought it was a glitch until I saw this thread. Even if fatboygotswagger may think I'm a poser, I miss being a Poobah! I was pathetically excited when I reached that level. Bring BK back please.

 

LOL, compared to what? The old BA sages at the mountaintop unveiling their wisdom on hops and cosmology? My take is that BA is supposed to be inclusionary, not exclusionary. And karma was a fun piece of that, one of the things that separated BA from the garbage on FB, Reddit, etc.

I vote to bring it back in some form or function.

I really enjoyed it and hope you bring it back. I'm not worried about "like farming" as others are. There points stop at 10k likes, so it had minimal impact. Even if you started giving credit for reviews instead of just ticks, there would be plenty of people who can write 150 characters of fluff very quickly.

Bottom line: I really enjoyed it, it helped me decide to join instead of lurk, and I hope you bring it back in some form.

Absolutely agree here. I enjoyed going after every style of beer, trying to find beer from different state and countries, just generally expanding my horizon and a lot of that I can attribute to this site and the Beer Karma.

Again, absolutely agree. Not that I'm the biggest veteran or most deserving of any status, but seeing people with less than a year on the site that were ticking beers at ferocious rates and constantly posting pics in WBAYDN and racking up likes making the leap to Poobah definitely watered down its meaning/significance.

This is a good starting point.

 

Late to this thread but I would definitely like to see the beer karma return! I like the idea of the decimal system but I don't think the likes should count towards karma. Even at .1 per like some people would still be getting over 10 points of karma a day which seems like way too much (maybe .05 would work?). I'd also like to add that I really miss the 'notable members' section. I enjoyed seeing who had the most posts / likes / points etc, but I think it would be really cool to add who has had the most beer reviews or trades or anything of that matter.

Really hoping this is just temporary and they bring back beer karma and the notable members section. Cheers!
