I'm going to Atlanta next week to visit family and go to a wedding. Not much on the agenda besides the wedding. My wife and I will get 1 maybe 2 nights out without the kids. Besides dinner, I was looking at hitting up Porter, Wrecking Bar, and/or Brick Store. What recommendations do you have for picking one (or somewhere else for that matter)?
I agree with the above. Don't miss wrecking bar. Also, the gas station across from porter has a pretty decent selection of brews to grab. If you hate crowded places, get to the porter early! Also Krog street market hop city will have great draft offerings at the bar and great food inside KSM.
Do NOT go to Taco Mac unless you like stale, microwaved food and dirty lines pouring your beer. Seriously, they have a large tap list at all locations but rarely actually have anything good and the lines are rarely cleaned, plus they change styles every time so the IPA you're drinking has some stout/brown/porter leftovers in it.
Yes! I just got home today from an Atlanta beer tour. Wrecking Ball was good. They have a sour pale and a porter that are fantastic! Porter Beer Bar was my FAVORITE place. Definitely ask to see their cellar. It's amazing the selection of beers they offer! Paired with the cheese and honey plate, I enjoyed the Wicked Weed Brettanomyces Famhouse Ale with peaches. Perfect pairing!
I didn't get to try any of the places on this list, but I did go to Torched Hop. OUTSTANDING all around! You guys need to start showing the new kids some love!
I'm curious what you liked at Torched Hop. I have only been once, mainly because parking in Midtown sucks.
Might not be enough for many but I can say the taco mac by my house I do see no less than once a week the tap cleaner guys van or truck in the parking lot in the morning. Maybe he's just taking a nap, who knows.
Their IPA is supposed to be really good. I need to make it there. Lot's of knowledgable friends have really liked the beer.
