Von Trapps lagers are very good IMHO- their Vienna Lager is excellent. Lover their beers

    -----------------------------------------------

Poured from the bottle into a wheat ale glass.

Deep copper orange and yellow body color, with a real nice crystal clear appearance. Large bubbled carbonation mixing with a good amount of fine pinhead size as well, and fairly plentiful. Head is soapy white, a little bit of froth but also some good spidery retention and lacing while settling. Grows a solid easy three fingers off the pour and settles to half a finger.

Clean aroma with a very light standard pale ale american hop bent. Faint citrus and tropical notes hiding behind some granular brown sugar notes. Hints towards sweeter and darker malts than your regular wheat chewy ale. Still a solid smelling brew in question.

Solid palate with an odd marker. Chewy rind of citrus zest in the mid palate, with an almost Vienna lager malt richness and faint toast. Finishes with citrus and orange, but has a very lingering baby aspirin aftertaste that detracts just a touch. More lemon and juicy qualities, but manages to stay clear of a chewy classic wheat feel and depth.

Comes off more as a solid pale ale than a wheaty brew, but with some minor flaws as well.

    look: 4.25 | smell: 4 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 4 | overall: 4 | BA Generated Score: 3.92

Aw, come on, my brain was distracted by encountering a favorite dessert converted into a liquid that contained alcohol, cut me some slack!

Yes Les Paul was an amazing man. You probably also know from reading one of the greatest things ever to contribute to music was "invented"or at least expanded upon and made popular by him: Overdubbing- I mean where would music have traveled without this technique?

...and an honorary Michigander. That family connection makes me a semi-honorary Kentuckian (though they're probably not wild about it) and I was born in Eastern Oregon. Damn, I'm a mess!

La Trappe Quadrupel (Oak Aged) - Batch 11 (2012)

    From LaTrappeTrappist.com:
    BATCH 11 (blended on 23 April 2012)
    Barrel ratios:
    • Malbec Barrels - 55%
    • New French Oak (Medium toast) - 20%
    • New French Oak (High toast) - 20%
    • Acasia wood - 5%
BATCH 11 is the final batch that used Malbec barrels. However, this batch too contains a lot of Quadrupel that was used on new wood.
Batch 11 is a bottling that is very complex aroma-wise. The aroma of the Malbec wine is prominent; a lot of oak flavour from the medium toast; a lot of vanilla and almond from the high toast; flowery aromas from the Acacia and, of course, the ale aromas from the Quadrupel. Very robust and tannin-rich in flavour, an additional lagering in the bottle is recommended. This additional lagering will further increase the complexity and tone down the flavour. Although the red wine influence is clear, the wood aromas dominate in this batch. Highly recommended for anyone who likes heavy ales/wines rich in wood flavour and aroma.

Appearance: Dirty brown rocky head that dissipated quickly. Rusty amber body the glowed bright. Small amount of particulate and few tiny bubbles.

Aroma: Rum raisin sponge cake with warm wine and caramel poured on top, and oak oak oak. A little bit of alcohol.

Taste: Follows the aroma with also some spicy yeasty banana and more dark fruits like figs and plums.

Mouthfeel: On the light end of medium body and silky smooth. Light but fitting carbonation and a little bit of alcohol warming.

Overall: This was amazing. Too bad it was the last one on the shelf. If I ever see it again I'll definitely buy it and I look forward to trying other batches as well.

Sort of related to this post and my lengthier post earlier: Speaking of Funk, a while back Bernie Worrell moved to my county. Seemed a bit odd, considering. But, he jumped right in to the local music scene, helped the local funk/soul/jam/groove musicians find their way, and was just a pleasant person to randomly see around. BERNIE MFing WORRELL is buying bagels right in front of me!!!!!!!!:grimacing: Sadly, Bernie also recently lost his battle with that dread bastard of a disease: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernie_Worrell

Y'all have no idea how much better Mallard ice cream tastes, when Bernie orders right after you, and gets the same scoop!!

    I love Bellingham.

First time I've tried focal banger. I've had Heady a few times, and have four in the fridge, but I'm telling you...this is better. Citrus and mosaic hops. So damn good.

New American Pale Ale Sunday (week 595)
Greetings fellow NBSers from on the ridge in Mid Hud Val, NY. Gonna be short and sweet, have coals going, hickory ready to add for smoke, and a coupla T-Bones oil rubbed with Montreal seasoning and ready to go.

Got this growler of Hecto Pale Ale last weekend from Suarez Family Brewers and it may have lost a touch of carb since then but it has plenty enough to please this old hippie fersure. Great Pale Ale, absolutely understatedly amazing and refreshing, clean as a whistle with a just bitter enough finish to make this work perfectly. Soooo delicious I can't help but wish you all were here with a glass enjoying with me.

Here is the link to one of my shorter and to the point reviews. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/41980/239416/?ba=cavedave#review

Good afternoon to all th NBS followers and thank you to Maria for the great start as always. I hadn't figured on being able to get in a post today as we left last Thursday on another camping expedition but this time to Burlington Vt. OF course this the Vermont Beer fest weekend here and as usual there were so many great beers to sample. We arrived on Thursday and were able to go to the funk fest at Foam Brewers in Burlington and sample the great sours coming from the House of Fermentology in Burlington as well as the great beers that Foam themselves are putting out. I will go out on a limb and say the best beer I sampled at the festival was a BBA Varick St Stout from Saranac Brewing, go figure but it was top shelf and is supposed to in bottles this fall. So here is where I sit this afternoon watching this beautiful day go by.[IMG]
Now on to the beer at hand Pavement from Foam Brewers. I think it was @cavedave that first brought these guys to my attention and well he was right. Under rated for now but IMO making beer as good as the greats here in Vermont. My beer this afternoon is Pavement a DIPA.

This beer pours a hazy yellow color into my tulip glass. A thin head on top.
The nose is citrus with some earthy overtones with a little dankness at the end.
The taste is your huge dank tropical New England style DIPA lots of citrus and a nice smooth bitterness at the end. The kind that leaves you wanting another sip.
The mouth feel is smooth for a beer this big.
Another great NE DIPA but for now it is DO or a 750 ml growler at the brewery. I will wait to see this in a can and take it's place with all the other great Vermont DIPA's

Another crazy hot day in the deep south, and after taking my wife to see The Secret Life of Pets, it's time for a new beer.

Smuttynose just started distribution in this area, so today's selection is their Big A IPA.

Very nice combination of tropical fruits and pale malts with a slightly creamy yet crisp mouthfeel. Easy drinking and enjoyable. Something I would definitely pick up from time to time...

Did you just drop a D-Bomb into @utopiajane's post? I thought you issued a Fatwah against "dank" being used in beer contexts.
