My wife and I are expecting our first child - a girl - in about 4 or so weeks. Of course, I'm already plotting a beer to celebrate the new arrival, and I'm curious which beers y'all cracked to commemorate the birth of your child? Or, any suggestions for me to celebrate with? Cheers!
Already a lengthy thread on this... Search for the thread: What beer did you drink to celebrate he birth of your child?
I had a coffe dinosmores the morning after it was amazing for an amazing celebration although I assumed I would be standing drinking it while I looked at my newborn daughter as she slept peacefully while my wife was smiling instead my daughter was screaming and my wife looked exhausted I've learned parenting does not go the way u plan in your head but still pretty amazing
Also I would say it doesn't have to be a whale pick one of your all time favorites better chance of no disappointment
Just re-read that old thread. Some of the responses boggled my mind at the time, and having just had our first child (boy; six weeks ago), they continue to boggle it. I'm not judging - horses for courses. But for me, my wife just popping out a newborn was not the time to whip out the BCBS vertical. My son's birth was very straightforward, both for him and my wife, but still - those first 72 hours are exhausting. And you're handling a tiny baby, helping your wife with anything she needs, changing nappies, trying to learn as much as you can from the nurses etc.etc. And you're doing all this with little to no sleep. Good beer was the last thing on either of our minds (despite me winding her up in the weeks leading up) The first beer I had was when I got home from the hospital.on day three. I think it was a modelo that happened to be in the fridge cos my wife had used it to make carnitas the night before she went into labor. I didn't think about taste. I drank it and then went for a power nap. Didn't drink anything good until a day or two later. My recco would be to save the special beer for a week or two later, when you can really enjoy it, and when you and your wife are settled a bit. When that time came I was lucky enough to have some BA cake. PS - congrats - it's truly awesome, but even more of a life-changer than you're probably expecting
Agreed! Seriously, you're going to be up and down more times than you can count ( helping, trying to sleep, trying to stay awake, etc.). Your life will be a bit of a whirlwind for a few weeks after. May want to wait a while before tackling any serious beers. We celebrated our son's birth with a fine beer, the following year when he turned one. Firestone Walker XIX Anniversary. It was perfect.
Mine was born 20 months ago, my baby boy. I went with something nice, but nothing's going to enhance or steal the show in that moment of life. From experience, you won't remember the beer. I went with something nice but familiar for that reason, KBS.
lol. what they said. for the birth of my second kiddo i had a Maine Brewing Co's A Tiny Beautiful Something.
I brought a bottle of Sierra Nevada 20th anniversary barley wine to the hospital that I planned to share with my girlfriend for the birth of our daughter (Laila Sierra). After a few hours of labor she was born at 11:30pm and by 1am my gf was fast asleep. To be honest, drinking that beer never even crossed my mind. I stayed up with my daughter just holding her, playing with her and staring at her until about 4am, unable to believe that this bundle of joy was a little piece of me. I can honestly say it was the greatest moment of my life. The next day my brother showed up to the hospital with some tall boy Rebel IPAs that we drank as the first post birth beers. About a week later my entire family/gfs family was over to visit Laila. Parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, and we cracked and shared the 20th anniversary barley wine along with a toast to my daughter. It was perfect. Long story short, don't try to plan it out. Just live in/enjoy the moment. No beer is going to make it any more special than it already is.
I don't have any kids, but from what my friends have told me, plan on what you will drink 18 or so years from now when you will have time again to enjoy it. Seriously though, congratulations to you.
A buddy of mine brought me a growler of Freak of Nature by Wicked Weed. FYI.. My 2.5 year old son is a handsome devil.
I answered at length in the other thread, but I'll repeat - I brought a few things to the hospital with us, but didn't crack anything for a few days. The first beer I had was a SN All Day I had when I went home over the weekend (we were there for 5 days) to shower and get clean clothes for us. I did pop a Westy XII a few days after we got home to celebrate, though.
