For those using Android and I am assuming IOS, you can cache your user name and password, then put a shortcut on your home screen. It is really no different than and app at that point.

I prefer to use a website oven an app any day. I love the new phone formatting.

Sad to see the app go, but personally & everyone's different, Untapped had been my go to on my phone since I downloaded it last year. I can add my info, ratings, pics etc quickly on the go & while out w/friends w/o being too Encyclopedia Brown about it.
But, BA is my go to for solid info on my tablet/desktop,& I'm fairly certain the ratings here on BA are a better gauge, for me, than Untapped.

The app was absolutley horrible, from a user, UX, and backend point of view. Put me on the boat of happy campers when they switched the site to a mobile ready / responsive platform.

    1. An app like that costs a lot to upkeep, and is completely separate from the website, so everything has to be down twice. Theirs was pretty bad, and to develop and entirely new one would be a substantial cost. Add in having to work on multiple platforms, phone versions, software versions etc. Its a bug report nightmare.
    2. Forum functionality was horrible. Couldn't reply or quote a person. Limited information available. Hard to reply in general. Bad navigation. Couldn't sort IP trades by region.

I am a graphic designer and do a fair amount of website builds etc. If any company asked me to develop them a stand alone app that basically did what their website did, but worse, I would call them crazy. And I am not talking about like amazon, which their site is much more content heavy and features where a responsive site wouldn't cut it (barcode scanning etc). Pretty much excluding store in general.

Honestly if you use it for ratings. I found it faster, every single time to just google the name of the beer, and possible write "beer advocate" (although most were the BA links in the top slot no matter what). You didn't even have to spell it right (come on weird names for beers) as google would fix that for you, Then click and go to the BA page.

I use BA on my phone all the time now and i absolutely dreaded doing it before. Usage on the ipad was decent before and now is even better.

While the app was not perfect, to me it was much easier to login and read the forums that way. I used to use it almost everyday. Now I haven't gone to BA in three weeks. I only logged in today to see how many other people miss the app as much as I do. Your losing traffic as a result. Just an FYI. I personally won't be using the website at all from my phone or my PC. I prefer apps. Have you considered the tapatalk plugin?

Our traffic has significantly increased due to recent updates, and nearly all of our app traffic (which wasn't much to begin with) has transitioned to web.
No, and we have no plans to.

Just curios, how was the app easier for looking up reviews and ratings while in a store/bar/etc.?

I had the app on my phone but found it clunky, always just used the website in my browser (which is an improved experience).

Was I missing something on the app?

I used the app quite a bit, but I like the increase in functionality that the mobile-friendly web site offers. I haven't had any difficulty looking up ratings via the web site versus the app, and I like being able to "like," "quote," "reply," and check alerts. I will say, though, that my phone battery doesn't seem to like the web site very much. :slight_frown:

The "nearby" feature was a huge pull for me.

As upgrades happen the nearby feature should be a top priority as I believe many of used the app to identify bars, breweries and stores to visit during our travels.

They've already mentioned that nearby capability will be in the next big update that is coming down the pipeline.

I think people preferred the predictive search (as you started typing it showed the results, similar to what Untappd does).

I wouldnt think that removing the app is a bad choice if it werent because all the app funcionality isnt included in the web site: I miss the predictive search and, above all, the view of the beers reviewed and the gots grouped by brewery and with small images of the beers next to each entry, which is something that made BA standout among competitors for me.

The app wasn't terrible but it was lacking in the 21st century. There are services that will format the website to an app at a lower cost.

Can you comment on the App's "near by" feature and whether you are considering bringing some kind of mapping feature into the web site. For some of us that was the biggest benefit of the app.

    Thanks

As previously mentioned in the forum, it is planned to return in the website in BA 4.0.

Since I never really used the app I am not familiar with that feature but I am looking forward to seeing what it all about in 4.0... Prosit!
