I'll just go ahead and tag @jesskidden now to fact check all the details about the history referenced in the article. I'll be really interested to see what the "nostalgic" makeover looks like.

I'd give it a whirl but with tempered expectations.

If they do as good a job with this as they've done with Ballantine Burton Ale and Pabst Old Tankard, I would expect this to be very good indeed. Pabst seems to be pretty serious about restoring legacy brands to former glory. Many here have forgotten (or are in denial) that 'big brewer' beer was not always watery yellow swill.
Most of their Pabst's reboots are actually measurably better than most of what's brewed locally by small brewers where I live.

Can't wait. Just slap a nipple on it and it will be just like I was 1 again. Neither of my parents drank beer, but there was always Old Style in the fridge.

Pabst was still having City contract-brew Heileman Special Export in 2004 according to TTB COLA's, at least. I guess the Special Export labels of that era did not have "the Heileman shield" on them? I don't know, Heileman brewed dozens of brands, how many other than Old Style had the shield on the label?

I see what you're saying but for me, my reluctancy comes from the style itself, not the fact that a macro outfit like Pabst is brewing it. American breweries tend to stray away from the German style when it comes to the Oktoberfests. Was this "original recipe" true to German examples or is/was it another American sugary, syrupy version? Guess I'll have to crack one open to find out.

I don't know about the beer but Octoberfest in 16 oz cans is an idea who's time has come!

Just curious...which American O'Fests did you find to be sugary/syrupy? Even though most American ones do seem to break with authenticity by using caramel/crystal malts, the majority of the ones I've tasted were more over-hopped than overly sweet, and lacking the rich malt character found in the imported ones.

    Yup, give it a taste.

Yuengling makes an Oktoberfest every year. I personally would not describe that particular beer as being "true to German" (which is hard to do today since there is a lot of variation of German beers labeled as being Oktoberfest) but I think that the Yuengling Oktoberfest is a tasty beer and I do not get hung up on the label of "Oktoberfest".

    Cheers!

Pabst might as well start moving most of their production to City, as I doubt there are any other brewers with the capacity to brew all Pabst's beers if they don't buy Miller's Eden, NC plant.

This is pretty cool. This is the one beer brand that stands out from when I was a kid, I remember sneaking a sip and thinking this is awesome stuff LOL. So I will grab one of these to reminisce about old times, still a local guy all the way but this is a memory thing for sure, so cool.
    Cheers!

Sam Adams and Goose Island's takes quickly come to mind. Great Lakes, Yuengling and quite a few local, draft-only offerings here in Michigan aren't far behind. They are too sweet and a caramel mess when compared to the balanced Euro offerings. The backend syrupy mouthfeel they have as opposed to the clean and dry finish that Ayinger, Weihenstephaner, Spaten, etc. offer is also night and day.

I'll buy it for that retro looking artwork! If the beer is decent, it's a win-win.

I hear you on that, I am excited to see what they produce, really hoping its a winner, would be shame to get this and find it horrible.

"Pabst Brewing sold 5.3 million barrels of beer in 2014"

City Brewing has enough 'excess' capacity to brew 5+ million barrels of beer?

    Cheers!
