Oh my, so damn good. Juicy pale ale with a kick. I went to Trillium last week and stocked up. Do recommend.

Hello NBSers! I'm new here, usually busy on Sunday's as it is the only day my wife and I both have off. I always enjoying the reading though and she's out of town this weekend. So I'm here to join! Hopefully this becomes more of a regular occurence as fall approaches.

Like @Ozzylizard I like the heat. So drinking a big stout in this hot and humid weather doesn't bother me. Of course, I'm inside in the AC, but that doesn't really matter. :stuck_out_tongue:

This is Coffee Break Abduction from Pipeworks.

A good looking beer, pitch black in color with a brown sugar colored head. Tiny bubbles persist and the lacing/retention are average for the style. A ring of head remains around the edge with a thin layer across the beer.

The aroma is more subdued than I expected. The vanilla is most prominent, with notes of medium roast coffee and a slight sweetness.

Taste follows suit, with strong vanilla hitting my palate first. Chocolate and a milky sweetness come through as well. The coffee becomes more noticeable on the aftertaste, leaving a very pleasant lingering bitterness and desire for another sip.

The body is medium-full with moderate carbonation. Slightly more carbonation than I would prefer for the style. The finish is balanced and again, a pleasant bitterness lingers.

Overall, this is a very nice vanilla/coffee stout, particularly if you like the vanilla to take a starring role. A 3.96/-4.6% rating doesn't surprise me, as I don't love this quite as much as I expected in talking with others about this beer. But very enjoyable and would happily have again.

Thanks for having me NBS! I will likely be back later as I have another new beer lined up for later today. Cheers!

Excellent start to New Beer Sunday. My son and I are headed to Highland for a pig roast and some beer drinking, after which it will be my pleasure to join the festivities here with a beer from a fellow NBSer that I have had in fridge (the beer not the person) and resisted the urge to open for the last few days. See ya then!

I'm not sure what the correct name of this beer is. It's either Arrogant Pilsner or Who You callin' Wussie regardless this is Stone's take on a German Pilsner. It's a nice take to. It looks exactly how a Pilsner should, golden color with nice thick white head. The aroma is bready and a bit herbal. It tastes good malty with a strong hop kick. I don't know what hops are used but they taste somewhat different than the hops used in other Pilsner. The finish is nice dry and clean. This is an excellent summer beer thirst quenching and refreshing no matter what you call it. At $11.99 for a 6 pack of pints it's a bit of a deal also.

Wow. What a wonderful morning of great new beer posts!!

My beer comes from @ONovoMexicano when we met in Albuquerque in May. La Cumbre gets some love, deservably so, on the threads, and this next Brewer, Bosque Brewing Company, deserves attention too:

"Scotia Limited" a Bourbon Barrel Aged Scotch Wee Heavy, ringing in at 8.4% and 30 IBUs.

Ruby brown pour (24) with fluffy beige foam; good clarity under the cap which is fairly long lasting; moderate to heavy lacing. 4.5

Gentle bourbon, sweet caramel malt, with a whisper of smokiness and oak as the liquid warms. 4.25

Flavors of bourbon, sweet caramel malt, and a little smoke/roast in the middle; alcohol on the first exhale (which I like!); no diacetyl and no hops; some raisin on the back end with peppery plum notes; the bourbon notes cut nicely into the caramel malt sweetness rendering an otherwise typical wee heavy less sugary. Brilliant. 4.5

Medium to full mouthfeel with some alcohol warmth; rich, almost chewy sugary tongue coating with moderate carbonation; there is a concomitant dryness in the finish, likely the oak, but not at all wooden. 4.25

Overall, malty and caramel sweet; the alcohol balances nicely the sugary caramel; a nice, rich, dessert wee heavy that is still a touch dry. I thought this was as good as I've had in the class. Congratulations! 4.5

Woodstock Inn Lemon-Blueberry Pale Ale from New Hampshire. A light beer for the hiking trail. This is new in the bottle for 2016 although it was available on tap at the brewery in 2015. It is 4.7% ABV and 20 IBU's. The bluebery and lemon notes are more noticeable in the flabor than they are on the nose. Easy to drink.

Good afternoon, all, and Happy New DIPA Sunday! Thanks to @cavedave for getting the festivities off to another great start. Today's new beer is Double D, a double IPA from Old Dominion Brewing, Dover, DE. From the label:
I picked up this sample at Total Wine in Norfolk, VA, last month. Bottle date is 03/04/16. Pours a clear, dark-orange color with a three-finger eggshell head that left sheets of nice lacing.

Aroma was malt forward, without much going on from the hops. Nicely balanced flavor, solid malt backbone with a little citrus and pine and a whole lot of grapefruit zest-like bitterness on the finish. The sample was bottled a little over 4 months ago, so the hop character may have faded a bit. Even so, this is still a pretty good DIPA.

    Yazoo - Embrace The Funk - Zure Bruine (2016 / Batch 1)

    NBS Round 2. Fight!

There's no info about this beer on Yazoo's website. The only info I could find was on the Embrace The Funk Instagram page:

Embrace The Funk - Zure Bruine - Batch 1

"This is our Flanders Brown aged in Merlot barrels for 16 months."

I won't be rating this beer on BA as this is my first 'Flanders Oud Bruin.'

On the side of the bottle it reads:

"A wild sour brown ale inspired by the provisional Oud Bruin style of Flanders, Belgium. Aged in multiple select Red Wine barrels for over a year to compliment the complex rich malt characters of grape, fig and raisin."

    True beer color:

    True head color:

    True head top color:

Appearance: So this looks darker than I've read about (or seen on BA) any 'Flanders' looking like. This was dark red, about as dark as it's possible for red to get before turning brown. Brilliant dark red when held in front of the sun. The head was rusty white and rocky, with a rusty white but creamy top, and it hung around for a minute.

Aroma: Wow this is sharp and tart. Pure grape juice tartness, but with a definite chocolate smell (I assume from the above mentioned "complex rich malt"). It really smelled amazing. There was also a little bit of a vanilla-ish oak-ish thing going on.

Taste: Okay so in the taste the chocolate is non existent. The tartness felt like it's own kind of flavor in this, with definitely a grape, fig, and raisin wholesome sweetness. It felt like the vanilla oak thing was also there if you looked for it.

Mouthfeel: Middle of the road medium body. Slick and wet, but the tartness dried the back of the palate. There was tartness but it wasn't really sour. The only puckering feeling was right on the back of the tongue.

Overall: As I continue to explore beer and try to support local breweries, Yazoo's Embrace The Funk beers are getting a little expensive. At $20 a bottle, I probably wouldn't drink this again, but I'll definitely try all of their offerings at least once. As mentioned above, I won't be rating this one because this style is new to me. I look forward to trying other 'Flanders' beers. This beer was very interesting and felt educational, but I can't decide if I really liked it or not. Time will tell as I explore more of the style.

Cheers to all and happy NBS!

Happy NBS, trying to stay dry because the humidity has been ridiculous the past 4 days. No reason to be this bad in WI. I picked some cucumbers, green beans, and peppers from my garden.

Today I am enjoying Blood of the Cherry from O'so out of Plover, WI. It pours a bright red with 2 finger off white head and moderate retention. Lacing is spotty and stringy on the glass. Nose is funky sweet, tart cherry skins and juice. Notes of cherry, wine, and wood notes. Flavor is of very tart cherry with very light sweetness. There is some woodiness and wine flavors on the finish. Light bodied with moderate carbonation with a dry finish. Terrific offering from O'so.

I will openly admit that this one got me based on gimmick alone, but it's a freaking John Riggins beer, and as a 'skins fan, there's not way I was not going to buy it! I'm also stoked to be able to roll an old Redskins glass out to enjoy it in.

Escutcheon Brewing Loosen Up 4th & 1 John Riggins Pilsner (not sure what the actual name is, but that's all the stuff on the can)

Looks nice with it's big, puffy, billowing white head. Beer itself is darn pale but still well within the gold family. No lacing to speak of.

Soft, bready aroma with just a nibble of noble hop spice leads the way for an identical taste. Soft, biscuity and followed by a slightly floral hop spiciness that has a bitter linger.

It may be gimmicky, but it's actually a pretty good beer.
