Good, bright, beautiful Monday morning, all! Another vacation day, so I'm kicking it off with this Stone Coffee Milk Stout. Milk stout, milk glass. Am I right?

Good morning BAS! Well, since the cool days and cooler nights of autumn have arrived here in NW PA, time for a doppelbock:

Not quite a drain pour but has an odd organic solvent note on the tail end.

Picked up some fresh ones over the weekend so . . .

Clean burnt umber. Nice egg shell cap with consistent lacing. Aroma is very malty in a good way, earthy, spicy hops in an undertone. Some caramel notes.

Taste is full, rich malt flavor seasoned by rather than dominated over by hops. Toffee with little roasted malt bitterness. In fact the bitterness I note appears to come from the hops. Clean finish with tasty malt rather than hops apparent.

They have managed to capture some of the best features of ESB with a hop crispness that overcomes malt sweetness. Very good balance.

Happy new week fellow BAs, mine starts with what in my opinion is the best 'version' of Leffe around. Leffe Tripel.

When you're a teacher and don't work in the summer you can open a BCBS on a Monday morning. No sour in any I have had. Amazing flavor.

    Morning Juice!

Now that Ive had all of the big name IPA's and all of the juicy NE IPAs, I can comfortably say that a little brewery in my hometown is on par with the big boys, aaaaaaaaaaddddddnddddddddddd..... I dont have to wait on any lines for my juice!

whatever, I'll probably still drive three hours to Tree House and wait on line just for the thrill of the chase.

Cheers all, have a great week

All the Christmas in July talk over the weekend had me craving one of my favorites from Stone but it was simply too damn hot and humid. The impressive storm that rumbled through yesterday evening sure made things much more comfy, so here we go. It's still holding up well and tasting great, though the coffee has definitely faded. There's still an abundance of cinnamon and chocolate, so I'm happy.

I received some positive news from a friend today which is always a bonus on a Monday. He's a licensed falconer in the state and was called to rescue a hawk that wound up in a manure pit on a dairy farm last Tuesday. This bird looked like something out of a horror movie and he didn't think it would survive. He gave it numerous baths, managed to get it to eat, treated some wounds and eventually released it today. A happy ending to a story that didn't seem so positive a week ago. He's a compassionate human being that always gives of himself. There is going to be a beer reward for him this week.

I awoke from a nap to see this on my phone. I swore I was dreaming.

I never thought that bird would look like this again!

A poor photo, but off she goes! It weighed around 3 pounds and he estimated around 10 years old. It was Christmas in July for one lucky bird of prey!

The shadows are getting longer, the bullfrogs are getting noisy in the swamp. Let's enjoy the final days of July and have a great week!

The plan was to do something a bit more productive today, but instead the heat has me drinking this lovely thing while singing its theme song which is about gnomes and partying I guess.
