Is anyone else sick of the seemingly persistent infusion of coffee in beers? I've been meaning to write this post for about a year now, but Founders recent release of its Pale Joe pushed me over the edge (it's described as a 'fruit-forward refreshing summer sipper...the love child of your favorite iced coffee...'). Allagash recently came out with a coffee infused tripel called James Bean. Before that, it was Founders' Sumatra Brown, a brown I was decidedly psyched to try, save for the coffee. And before that it was Trillium's consistent infusion of coffees in its porters and stouts, and even in a barleywine called Day & Night. You get the point.

Don't get me wrong - I like a lot of the above beers, and thought Trillium's Day & Night was a superb example of coffee infusion creativity done right...but I'm at the point now where I just don't even want to try them anymore, and just wish brewers would be a little more judicious with coffee.

Thoughts folks? Thanks for looking and considering!

I've actually been looking for more coffee beers lately. I love them.

I hate coffee. The mere thought of a coffee IPA or Pale just makes me shake my head. Along with the SunnyDeLite looking IPAs, these brews seem to be beers for people who don't like beer.

You must really hate stones mocha ipa then haha. All jokes aside sometimes it is over done, but for now I enjoy them as long as it's balanced, I will add I haven't had any of the beers you named.

I haven't thought it was a good idea since Starbucks and Red Hook did it in the 90s. Welcome to the other side .

Sunday morning stout, Sumatra brown, and sixpoint cream were three of the best beers I've had this year...

For someone like me there is literally and I do mean literally not enough coffee beer. Coffee is my love right behind beer.

Yeah it's a bit of a trend these days.. just as long as you keep your coffee away from my Belgian Pale Ale, I won't mind to sip one every now and then. I've yet to try Sumatra Mountain.

On the other hand I love chocolate in beers, just to a degree.

Ok with some hints of coffee in a BBA stout but please leave it out of about everything else. Prefer those flavors to be coaxed from the roasting and not the addition of such. Same for the cocoa.

I know folks say drink what you like but these endless strange beers are clogging up the shelves.

I think the whole thing has an element of ridiculousness. I like having more coffee beers hit the market because I actually like it when I'm not tempted to buy another new beer being released. Coffee makes it easier to say no. Having said that, it's not an absolute for me because I'll always be a little open-minded anyway. I tried two coffee beers recently. One was Almanac Cold Brew Coffee Noir... and I thought that was very nice as far as the whole coffee stout genre goes. The other was a saison with coffee and I gave it a shot despite my better judgement... I should have passed.

To each his own the man said as he kissed the cow. I like coffee well enough to buy green beans, roast and grind them myself. But I like my coffee hot and my beer cold so mixing the two results in an unacceptable compromise.

The Czech Pils one would be a Schwarzbier, wouldn't it? You know, except for the part about the roast quality being at cartoonish and overbearing levels .

I am biased on this one since I love coffee. I actually go so far as to roast raw beans at home. LOL so with that said I LOVE coffee infused beers of all makes. I think they are great beers and like others actually look for more of them or new ones, cheers to COFFEE.

Also I see a lot of Craft in Coffee like Beer so I think the two have a common place together

Simple: If you love coffee, you seek out coffee-forward beers. Just tried The Bruery Share This. Very coffee forward and delicious.

Also a coffee lover here. Not sure if I like beer or coffee more. So combining them is just fantastic in my book, as long as it's done well. With really strong flavors come really easy chances to screw stuff up.
