I think Conclave brewing is doing something special. If they can increase capacity and start canning Gravitational Waves they will have huge lines every weekend.
I anticipate that when Industrial Arts opens in Rockland County they will get some huge buzz.

Muchos hyperbolic douchey overanalysis on and on and on being pervaded in this thread - yeah jtirpak22

[so ubiquitous nationally that it's going to take some of the driving force out of it. There are already people in the PNW who no longer feel the need to trade for TH because there's Great Notion (with Juice Box) in Portland. Speaking of which, Great Notion deserves a nod as well. Their catalog is versatile and really well done and they have a couple of flagship beers - Juice Box and Double Stack - that will be easy to build hype around. Consistently knocking out an array of adjunct stouts, hazy/juicy IPAs, fruited sours, etc. right off the bat is pretty impressive. Too bad they only crowler and there's zero distribution.Blah blah blah blah blah blah[/QUOTE]

Marz is not the Chicago brewery to blow up. Their stuff is too expensive and too inconsistent. The best thing they have is marketing.

Spiteful, Mikerphone, Like Minds (way too new to call), or maybe even Illuminated (and Around the Bend is killing it, but won't be big because they don't do hyped styles, and it's sort of the same story for Illuminated).

Funk Factory Geuzeria from Madison/Plover, Wisconsin is already insanely hyped (the last two releases sold out in under 10 seconds) and may fall into this topic.

Transient in IL/MI will continue to blow up with the increased production.

Oakhold in northern Minnesota has lots of potential and is still really unknown.

If smoked beers are the next big thing, Hammerheart in Lino Lakes, MN has a ton of potential.

If the lager trend continues, Bauhaus in Minneapolis is wonderful.

Dangerous Man and Fair State make a lot of hyped styles very well, both also out of Minneapolis.

Orpheus down Georgia way has some good stuff and doesn't get the same hype as Creature Comforts for whatever reason.

If they start canning ever, Cellarmaker in San Francisco will shoot to the top very quickly.

I also agree with Veil and Holy Mountain. Both are ridiculously delicious and requisitely hyped already.

OEC in Connecticut should by all rights have done so. Everything they make is killer and very, very unique.

Fixed that for you. I can't wait to get some Von Trapp for myself; whenever a lager brewery gets hype around here, I get all jittery.

People have been saying the market is saturated in all things craft beer forever now. If they make good beer, people will come to them. Hell, there are plenty of bad breweries that have stuck around for whatever reason. Until Treehouse, Trillium, Hill Farmstead, Alchemist, Foundation, Bissell, etc. can churn out enough to completely sate demand, there will always be people that go to Veil and Aslin instead.

Might be a NYC brewery. I had great stuff from Greenpoint, Rockaway, Other Half, Transmitter, and a couple others from within the five boroughs last weekend. I leave out Sixpoint cause they already blew up, if I understand the premise of this thread...

Also Brouwerij Lane is the hippest (not hipster-est, though I'm too old to know, maybe that too), coolest little teeny-tiny beer bar I've been in, in a while. I left town thinking maybe Greenpoint is the new Williamsburg? And LIC, the new Greenpoint?

Sounds like everyone's favourite local brewery is going to be the next big thing.

Sure - I'm not suggesting that they won't be successful breweries, but I doubt they'll be the next Tree House or Trillium as suggested by some in this thread.

Aslin has blown up so quickly for the same reason several others around the country blew up quickly. Their beers are delicious, and social media can spread word of mouth quickly, period and really no other reason. I've had nearly all the local breweries in MD and VA and IMO they just seem to make IPAs head and shoulders over everyone else in the quality of their IPAs. Only competition right now that I see for small brewers in the area is Manor Hill but they are over closer to Baltimore. Crowds and demand is justified IMO and not overhyped phoney sheep buying going on.

Hopefully the Veil finally cracks the BA wild ale market in this area. Really not much going on in MD or VA in terms of quality sours. Pizza Boy in Harrisburg is probably the closest brewer doing decent BA wild ales, Maybe Lost Rhino? Not sure.

Was really disappointed when I heard Flying Dog backed out of creating a barrel aged facility in NOVA. Thought that would be just the thing the DC metro area needed (assuming Flying Dog would make quality BA beers/wilds well).

There are 2 definitions of "next big things"
    1) Some new small micro distribution brewery where you pretty much have to lineup at their door to get crowlers, growlers or take out bottled/canned beers. Due to the styles and methods of the beers they make, I'm not aware of any brewers who have cracked the code yet on how to make these beers on a larger scale and distribute widely as the beers need to be consumed very fresh to enjoy as intended (i.e. most of the farm brewers and NE style IPA top makers fit this model). Or in the case of barrel aging, its really hard to expand greatly doing these styles requiring so much time taking up space while aging in the barrel.

    2) Brewers that are starting small and making great stuff on a current small scale but plan to grow into region/national/international. Become the next BBC, SN, New Belgium, Stone, Firestone Walker, Deschutes, Great Lakes, Bells, Founders etc. The market and business model by the vast majority of new brewers seem to be shifting away from this model. Probably because of the oversaturation of bottle shop / beer options and trends of the current craft beer drinker (less brand loyalty, less quantity purchases of same beer, more single sampling and rotation of beer consumption).

Like I said, Marz won't go anywhere until their beer is priced more reasonable. However, I have found their stuff that I've had to be pretty consistently excellent.

Agree on Mikerphone. Its super hyped in Chicago already - my concern is that the hype is too great for the beer and will cause people to be disappointed. As for Spiteful, I'll just respectfully disagree. They're a fine local brewery but nothing more than that.

(The other two are way too young to speculate on.)

In the PNW at least, I can see Pfriem blowing up if they made more of their fruited sours, those things are amazing.

Suarez Family Brewing for sure. They have the pedigree, and the five beers they've done so far range from very good to flat-out magnificent. And these are just simple styles -- pilsner, pale ale, pale wheat ale. They've got a ton of stuff in barrels already so when they get kicking everyone is gonna know.

Industrial Arts is another one. Chief from Ithaca/Peekskill's own project. You know that stuff is gonna kill.

I don't get out much but I have not had a bad beer from Central Waters. Everything I have is has been either solid or great. Would love see them get more love from the BA community.

Just now drinking the Dunkel. Here are my rankings:
    Vienna 4.56
    Helle 4.5
    Dunkel 4.47
    Pilsner 4.22

How did they stack up for you guys?

As always rating are subject to change since only having them once. A lot of times I tweak my ratings on the second go around.

Nice! I'm right on with you. My only indecision would be moving the Dunkel ahead of the Helles. Had so few of the style (fresh) and don't know if it's truly a 4.5+ for style.

I put the Pils last only because it seemed to become slightly abrasive/gritty after two or three. Should be able to put down more.

A mixed 12 with those ratings?! Outrageous.
