Which barrel aged stouts from Toppling Goliath were made from a different base? I thought it was confirmed that MD, KBBS, Assassin and SR-71 were all the same basic base beer?

Is it barrel aged Rover Truck?

But is it Assassin? Please explain.

Yep. Just like every hoppy beer they make is just Sue base, but with a different hop(s) and/or different malts.

What the fuck does it matter what the base beer for Term Oil is? It's (from what I've heard) a fantastic barrel aged stout that has been getting a lot of comparisons to regular BCS (which is high praise), but others have said might not be quite up to their big boys called Assassin and SR71. It's all from individual barrels except for a keg or two that were blended from two (or more) barrels. That, in and of itself, means it's not fucking Assassin. Maybe you should call and ask for Mike or Clark and request an interview if you care so much about what the "base beer" is, for christsakes.

So you don't know what it is and haven't had it, but felt the need to reply for some reason...thanks.

Is it an unfair request to ask a beer related question on a beer related forum?

I received my answers from a very nice BA. I will leave you to your thread about how FL and Iowa Sue are different. That was much more educational.

You haven't had it, but feel the need to be on some never ending quest to find out what the "base beer" is? Glad you have your answer. Really seemed to be keeping you up at night and now you can hopefully sleep.

Im glad I have my answer too, thanks!

It really didn't seem like that strange of a question. It gets asked all the time for Central Waters beers, Bells new barrel aged beers, etc.

I loved all 4 of the other Toppling Goliath stouts, so if the base beer was the same, I would be more interested in making the trip to Iowa.

If it was a different base beer, I would pass and not take the gamble at this point.

Your posts throughout these threads have shifted from boring to irritating to fucking idiotic. Do you read what you wrote before posting? Jesus.

Just popped in to say there is no such thing as an Assassin base beer. Cheers folks.

Certainly there is some beer that goes into barrels that becomes Assassin. That beer, whatever it is called, is the Assassin base beer. The common conjecture is that the beer that goes into barrels is called Norseman's Wrath. Once it comes out of barrels and gets blended it is no longer Wrath, but it's now Assassin. Of course that could be wrong, but that's been the basic understanding around here for some time.

Can't believe no one has mentioned that on the side of an Assassin bottle is says "brewing in turmoil".

So there.. there's your answer. 00101001110111010011010110110

This. Maybe they just brewed a BA stout for the taproom. Why does everything have to be Assassin or KBBS, a "mistake" or "not up to standard" beer?
