to a person that prefers red wine? Anniversary with gf is coming up soon and I'd rather have a gift plan as opposed to flying by the seat of my ass this year. I have other notions to follow through with but I'd like to introduce her into the wonderful world of burr I've ensconced myself in.

The only issue is that we have problems with each others vice. She dislikes beer because it tastes too much like beer (from her experience with adjuncts), and I dislike wine because f*ck wine.

I've tried with ST dessert beers, raspberry ales, and a couple suggested converter beers, but the only slight purchase I gained was with the raspberry. I think lindemans framboise might work as an entrance, but I have no idea where to go from there, or even if I should start there.

    Suggestions/stories/folktales/critiques/insultstomymasculinity? All would be appreciated.

IMHO, introducing a red wine drinker/preferrer to beer, not matter how good the beer may be, is a difficult task. How about a beer fermented in wine casks? I believe there are a few. I also believe DFH came out with a hybrid beer/wine of sorts last year but I can't think of the name or attest to its rating among other BAs.

I have used Flanders red ales (Rodenbach Grand Cru) to convert wine drinkers

Or you could get her a nice bottle of wine because she really likes wine. Maybe an Anniversary isn't exactly the best time to try a conversion. Just sayin.

If you can't get into wine how can you expect her to get into beer?

I'm interested in hearing more about your "f*ck wine" attitude. Wine is awesome. If you're dismissing it because of the culture around it then you're guilty of doing the same thing people do when they disregard beer because it's just beer.

I tried to convert a wine drinker with some strong belgian ales and flemish reds. They really liked Gulden Draak but couldn't get over the sourness of Rodenbach. I thought sour ales would do well because of their wine-like qualities, but it differs from person to person.

That's probably because, as in other pursuits, all wine drinkers are not alike. Those that are into European so-called "Old World" wines tend to be acid-heads, and may be more inclined to appreciate something like Rodenbach, especially if they prefer Burgundies or Beaujolais. Chances are a California Cab enthusiast won't even find those wines enjoyable, much less beers that share their qualities.

And just when I thought beer and wine lovers could get along.
Seriously OP, just get her a really good bottle of wine, something so nice and expensive she wouldn't buy it for herself. Since you love beer and despise wine (for whatever reason), wouldn't you want her to buy you a similar-caliber beer? How would you feel if she bought you a bottle of wine in an effort to convert you from your "f*ck wine" attitude?
And besides, what if she does buy you that kind of beer for the anniversary? She buys you an amazing beer and you buy her an amazing beer? I don't see that going well for one of you...

Totally gave up on converting fanatic wine drinkers that stubbornly refuse to believe that beer goes far beyond swill lagers. To be honest: more for us!

Mind you, I've never been known to turn down a glass of red wine. It really has to be the most horrendous factory-filtered and clawingly sweet garbage before I won't like it.

Getting her something that you enjoy as a gift, this should go over very well.
