Is there an etiquette for waiting on a member to respond once you've started a conversation and before you move on to other conversations?

ie, you post, they message you, you message back.....and nada, sometimes forever, sometimes for 2-3 days, a week, etc. You know they've seen the message, you see them browsing the forums, etc. And then almost always ending in 'sorry, decided I'm going to hang on to my beer' or something similar. Meanwhile other members are asking if you still have the FT, but you were in flight with someone else already so you held them at bay.

Unfortunately, this has happened a number of times to me over the last few months. And double whammy, the other members asking about FT frequently trade their beers by the time I cut the first member loose.

What say you? Thanks in advance.

If you message and they're active, and you don't get a response, I just delete the conversation and move on.

Give people a day or so to respond, then send them a quick message & say "I'm going with someone else" so there's no later butt-hurt if they eventually decide to respond. This is assuming they've seen the message; we all know that not everyone sits on their phones or computers 24/7. But I don't think a 24 hour window is unreasonable.

Seems like this gets worse every year. People who are too self-involved/busy/rude to respond to messages shouldn't be trading, & I won't bother with those people in the future.

It's why I rarely ever trade outside of a few LT trade partners. This win mode of trading is a bit exhausting, and frankly not very interisting.

    Yea,
That kinda grinds my gears as well. I reached out to a guy in the ISO:FT . Had exactly what he was looking for, and I was planning on bombing the hell out of him with extras, as I rarely have things in my area that pop up on the ISO...

Messaged him, he read it. Still no response after 8 days or so.

I mean really? A little common courtesy goes a long way.

I don't trade much and this is one of the reasons why. I just get burnt out.

Most recently a guy messaged me on Saturday. Had what I wanted. I send him back a list of stuff since he is an IPA guy. Haven't heard from him. And not that he hasn't read it and been on BA he hasn't been on at all since then.

Add in a trade from May. We messaged back and forth a couple times. He was a bit slow. But that's fine. I am in no rush. So then I don't hear back from him, ever. I just double checked again to confirm and he hasn't been on BA in 12 WEEKS. Messaging me was like the last thing he did on here and then he disappeared.

Trading with me must be a plague. All the sudden these guys just disappear never to be heard from again. These are all people who were on here a bit. Have a trade history, etc. gone.

My guess is that anyone that has done a couple of dozen trades has encountered the either super-slow or no response once a conversation has started.

If someone is involved in a conversation with me and another person inquires about the ISO:FT, I will let the second person (or third, how ever many) know that I'm engaged in a conversation with someone else. I will also let them know that should the initial trade proposal not get worked out that they would be next person I contact (I would let them know either way so that they don't have to just keep waiting), and if both are still willing to make the trade we could make it happen.

As far how long, time wise, I wait for back-and forth communication when working out the trade? 1 day. If you really want to get it done, you bare half the responsibility and should get on the ball. Otherwise, don't contact me at all if you want to drag this out.

I have found a few regular trade partners, and even with them it's never more than a day to receive a response. They are people I trust far more than someone I would be trading with for the first time, so why make exceptions to someone I don't know?

I just thought it was because I was a New Trader. I cannot get anyone to respond back to me. Ran into the same thing recently where I had EXACTLY what the ISO wanted. Read....no response. Just a simple "hey thanks but I went a different route" would be sufficient.

This seems like it's happening to me. We've agreed on a small in-person trade, I sent the trade request 2 days ago. Nothing. I've messaged him, and he's been on the site and read my messages. He even called me on the phone and we spoke before I sent the trade request. I don't have anything else in the works, so I'm going to sit on it and see what happens. Just strange behavior in my opinion.

The "no response" issue is a major annoyance for me as well. I had an ISO up for a pretty big bottle once where I was offering 6 bottles for 1. A trader responded that they were interested but wanted to counter with another proposal and they listed the 6 bottles they wanted. I accepted their counter offer and sent a trade request. Never heard back from the person again and I could see they read the message and were online many times. I ever sent 2-3 more messages to double check and to see if they were still interested before I told them I was cancelled the trade request. They never accepted the trade request formally so nothing I could do about it but they certainly landed on my do not trade with list b/c of the lack of response and common courtesy to just respond one way or another.

Nothing bugs me more than when I agree to someone's offer and than they change it or just go silent. If someone puts out an offer and I agree and than they change it, I end the conversation there. That person is just holding you up for the maximum they can get.
