Sounds crazy I know, but this is the same group of 20 guys that caused the founder of another beer forum to become so disenfranchised with craft beer and it's "community" that he was genuinely considering shutting down his site entirely earlier this year -- and this was after he actually tried to help.

The comedic gospel of DontDrinkBeer is sadly ringing true.

That's a generalization and an untrue statement. I have no knowledge and have not been a part of another beer forum.

@HarryS -- happen to have any feedback from last night's Zika discussions with the Wynwood Business Improvement Disctrict?

Why have only 10 blocks been surveyed in the 2 weeks this has been going on, when you say it's affecting 40?

If even the Governor's office claims it was only a 500 square foot location in the entirety of Wynwood, why not disclose that location, so the whole are isn't affected economically?

How long ago did this really happen, especially when it takes week for tests to come back positive, + it was flesh announced 2 weeks ago?

Why are you lying about this being a Wynwood only "epidemic", when no one who was infected lives in Wynwood, yet you say it's contained here?

Fucking horrible. They sent a nobody from the health department to give us the runaround. Scumbags. Governor's office, City Mayor, CDC, + County Mayor all decided not to show up. Fucking overblown bullshit. They specifically said you're more than likely to get the flu before you get Zika, + that the ONLY persons that should be worried are pregnant woman, or those who might want to get pregnant, + even then it's rare. Yet they don't do a press conference saying this shit, because ratings. Fucking bullshit.

Has there been a noticeable difference in taproom visitors these past few weeks? I get the feeling a lot of beer drinkers don't really care about Zika, and that the usual visitors are locals not tourists.

 

That's exactly right. We're actually one of the businesses, while hurting, still bringing some customers in. The entirety of Wynwood is truly suffering.

 

Would be cool to see this (found label on MBB) on release day in a few weeks

 

Myself, another employee, + an artist I work with on the regular, designed this one. So happy with it.

We plan on going different routes with labels from now on. Different styles, with original pieces coming from well known artists. Hopefully you good peoples will like them from now on.

JWB is just one of my gigs. I curate most of what's in Wynwood. That's been my job for years.

I loved that label, but mostly because of the hidden messages in it. The lady with the Cuban cafetera, + the pigeon, which can be a harbinger sending messages....but when It comes to AHOL, I'm so biased.

 

I'm with you on the government/political BS going on but the above line of thinking is best case ill informed and worst case reckless.

While I agree that you are much more likely to get the flu than zika, there are treatments for the flu but there isn't one for zika nor is there one for microcephaly, the terrible birth defect some babies born to women infected with zika have. Huge difference between the two.

Also, it's not ONLY pregnant women or those who want to get pregnant that should be concerned. As zika can be transmitted sexually, it's anyone who can get pregnant or anyone who is sexually active that could pass it onto someone who is or can get pregnant that is at risk. That's a significantly larger group. For the sake of the JWB fans out there I really hope Johnathan figures out a more intelligent way to release bottles for the foreseeable future than to have people stand outside for many, many hours.

p.s. I'm very happy to hear the labels are going in a new direction. The label for Cafe looks really sharp. With all the amazing artists in Wynwood there is no excuse for the dogshit labels that have graced JWB bottles in the past. Labels are a part of a brewery's brand and identity. You need to give a shit about them.

I really don't understand why a no-proxy BPT is such a tall task with all of the uncertainty out there. It's not like JWB needs to run the sale on their website ala Lost Abbey. My concern isn't going into Wynwood or the taproom, it's the standing in line for hours. While we're all adults and responsible for our own actions, I also wouldn't want my business in the headlines because a patron contracted Zika. And who cares about the bottle share. You've got bigger problems if you can't go to a release without getting plastered at 6am

 

Definitely. I agree with your points about Zika. It's not that I think it's perfectly safe to be here all open skin shit, because I wouldn't even want a flu, it's just the lack of information, + the government not stepping in to ease our minds with the proper info, that bothers me. Also, when I said "only" I was quoting the health department official (lackie) they sent to the meeting. Those aren't my words.

 

That milk stout label is very nice. The AHOL harbinger label was amazing and JWB's best so far imo. The miami madness zombie is pretty awesome too. All much, much better than recent ones
