Good morning BA, have a great Saturday! Weather is supposed to be a bit gloomy today for weather. Beer this morning:

Amazing pale ale! Flavors of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, papaya, passion fruit, lemon zest, orange peel, and pine hops; with biscuit/light caramel malts; and herbal/floral/grassy hop earthiness. Moderate pine/citrus rind bitterness; medium bodied; sticky/resinous mouthfeel with some light bready creaminess. Moderate increasing dryness, with no hop astringency. This is almost as amazing as the IPA for me. Been grabbing it a lot.

Awesome coffee IPA. Flavors of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, and pine hops; with balanced medium roast coffee, cocoa, vanilla; caramel, toasted bread malt; and floral/grassy hop earthiness. Moderate pine/citrus peel and light roasted coffee bitterness on the finish. Medium-plus bodied; balanced sticky/resins and creaminess in the mouthfeel; with a touch of chalkiness from cocoa/coffee flavors. Light-moderate increasing dryness; with zero astringency. Highly drinkable and minimal warming ABV. Pretty much perfectly balanced between cocoa/coffee and citrus/pine hop flavors. I've been drinking a lot of Short's Snake Juice previously, which is similar to this(but more tropical); this is a bit more malty, and roasty/vanilla tasting from the cocoa. Will get again.

Amazing saison. Flavors of lemon zest, grapefruit, pear, pineapple, peach, orange peel, pepper, and clove; with moderate wheat, cracker, bready malt; with floral/grassy hop and yeast earthiness. Moderate peppery yeast spice and grassy bitterness; smooth/crisp finish; with some wheat creaminess and light hop stickiness in the mouthfeel. Medium-high carbonation and nice dryness. Glad to have this as a go-to saison now. I'd put this right up with Ommegang Hennepin. Definitely top tier stuff.

Excellent RIS! Flavors of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toffee, biscuit, nuttiness, brown sugar, toasted oats, raisin, and light licorice/smoke/char; with some moderate earthy/herbal hops. Bittersweet roast/char and herbal hops on the finish. Great creamy/silky mouthfeel; with light sticky/chalky roasted dryness. Very complex and well balanced. I definitely prefer the Nitro version over the bomber, but both are great beers to me.

    Cheers

Yowsa! Shake your pants. New Beer Sunday is coming. The lager is an extreme beer.

Beer Geek Helles Jack's Abby. Thank you @butters_mcgee =)

Pale gold. the color of a fresh bale of hay. The malt is made to measure on the nose with a light golden sweet scent backed by earth from hop. The head is soapy and white and falls well and not too fast. Exemplary appearance which is a 3.75 and not a 4. Why? Because it is common to the style this exemplary appearance.

Only a subtle coolness on the nose until the hop starts to exhale herbal. Weedy with light white pepper. Crisp sweet floral to back it. It smells like a flower. Drink is softly herbal with floral dominant on the palate. Middle is filled up with floral and like nectar it is light. the malt is a peppery cracker with little flecks in it. Just a light texture and bold hops finish this beer. Bitter and hay like, grass . Light overall with a prickly bubble. Hops presence on this beer is moderate and not low as to the traditional style but Jack's Abby is known for making hoppier styles. Some of their best beers just exceed the parameter to show you hops against the style. It's a place to be persnickety in a review to demonstrate that you have seen what they have done. In the review I would say pay particular attention to the finish or the mouthfeel. When you quibble a style it's there and then at least one other place. In this beer, there is a measure of dms that is included in the flavor that tells me the brewer had his eye on the style. it's very hoppy though and I think it finishes with a strong bitterness but meets the malt which has a pleasant prominence in the finish. Carbonation has a small bubble with a little bite, so moderate.

I like it. What's the score? Well read the review too.

Definitely one and done for this one - not quite a drain pour but ... Victory - quite making mediocre beers and Bring Back Baltic Thunder!

Jan 29, 2015 bottling. Tastes like sweet hop candy. The bitterness has mellowed a little but is still present. Massive caramel, toffee and butterscotch. Delicious.

Morning Glory Esspressio Stout by (Old) Dominion

Artwork: The label in this pinup series beer depicts a lady that appears to be wearing a military shirt and nothing else. She is stretching and yawning in front of a window. Not the most suggestive of labels in this series, but the same cannot be said about this beer's name.

Appearance: Jet black with relatively small tan head.

Nose: Not much going on here. You can smell the coffee somewhat. A little bit of burnt bread.

Taste: Sweeter than I would have thought. The coffee is marginally stronger here.

Mouthfeel: Surprisingly light body. Carbonation harsher on the tongue than expected.

Overall: I felt that this one lacked enough complexity to be considered a great beer. Nothing too offensive though. If coffee is your thing however, this may not give you the necessary fix.

Good Morning BAs! I think it's been a few weeks since I've posted an AM coffee stout in this thread (fact-checkers might give this a dubious ranking, but I feel it's been a while). Time to remedy it, either way, with a nice offering from Hardywood
    [IMG]

    Sidamo Coffee Stout

I have quite a few coffee stouts down there, I need to start jumping on them. This seemed a good one for today, and one of those beers that I think the base beer is a few leaps and maybe one bound ahead of the barrel-aged version. This bottle, though it says RIS, has a little bit of a milk stout note to it. Creamy mouthfeel with the stout and coffee playing equal parts in the taste. Yum!

I also figure I'd take this time to harass you EMBAers with this promotion:

That's right!! For those of you already aware, Throwback Thursday is this week :grimacing::grimacing:! You have a few days left to think back a bit, consider a beer you had a while ago but continue to overlook in the store, and then go to that store, and buy it! :astonished:

And then, wait until Thursday. :slight_frown:

    And then, DRINK IT!! :grinning:

And then tell us about it, of course

Take a few extra words or sentences (some of us may use a paragraph or three :flushed:) to say what you thought about the beer before you re-tried it. Did you check out your old review? Did you need to write one? Were your previous impressions correct? Way off? Are you kicking yourself that this promo didn't happen months/years ago?? Or will you never participate in a theme day again thanks to the torture of the experience**?!?

Either way, I hope to have a little fun, spark a little discussion, and hope at least a few people rediscover a beer they will enjoy regularly (again, perhaps). Please join us in the spirit of Throwback Thursday on August 18th!!

** note: the views and opinions of this theme day do not reflect the views and opinions of all theme days, and should not be construed as to the quality of all theme days in general. And @LeperJim should not be held accountable or suffer any harm, physical or psychological, for simply providing wonderful graphics for the promotion of this theme day.

(Ducks for cover from purists: last night, two Iron Bird Propaganda IPAs that had been run through a Randall with Citra hop cones in it -- interesting, less carbonation, but more of a weedy whiff to it. Not sure I could have had more as it was missing some nerve to it, but nice to see them experimenting. Cheers, BAers. Stops ducking....carry on).
