Let's get Sunday started. Scrambled egg on toast for breakfast with my last FBS until this years release.

Last remnants of Brew Gentlemen Akamai growler. Overcast morning, with the occasional breakthrough of the sun; rain threatening.

    Aunt Sally by Lagunitas

Artwork: Call me shallow or superficial but Lagunitas' labels make me NOT want to drink what's inside, even though I know that the majority of their products are good. Everyone knows that typography is their "thing" but more often than not their labels end up being quite ugly and unappetizing. This one looks like it belongs on the label of an early '90s Bulgarian cereal box.

Appearance: Amber with massive big-bubble head with decent retention and wonderful lacing. Unlike the label, the beer itself is mouth watering.

Nose: Very hoppy, some citrus too. If I was blindfolded I would have guessed this was a West Coast IPA I was sniffing.

Taste: Wonderful mixture of hoppiness/sourness. Some apple, fruit candy, lovely bitterness towards the end, followed by a tart finish. Very refreshing.

Mouthfeel: A little bit of a carbonation bite. Goes very well with the flavors on offer.

Overall: What a great summer beer. I probably need to get some more of these. I bet it's even better on draft since you won't have to look at the label.

It's a little past midnight here, just finished a Golden Road Wolf Mother. It was a few months old, malt was showing through, would like to try a fresh can of it if I can find one. As of now, I like the band better.

Friday night, went to the newest beer bar in town, Village Bottle Shop and Tasting Room. Great new addition to the budding craft beer scene here. It's got a solid line up of 17 harder to find beers around the island, plus an awesome little bottle shop with 400 high quality bottles. I like that they offer half pours, which makes the bill much smaller, and you can taste more. Started off with the Maui Imperial Coconut Porter. This is the one they should can. So much chocolate and coconut going on.

Shared a bottle of Grimm BA Double Negative with a friend. It's such a great BA stout and you can find it on the shelves of just about any reputable bottle shop in town. My first Grimm too!

Went on a hike the other day, in the valley behind my house. While it wasn't particularly hard, it was nice and quiet. You go through a fern forest, Strawberry Guava grove, Bamboo forest, avocado grove, mango grove, and end up in a Norfolk Pine forest, plus there's a little stream going along the path. Here's a few shots

Good morning BA, have a great Sunday! Beer this morning:

Delicious oatmeal stout as usual. Big flavors of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toasted oats, light molasses/dark fruit, and a touch of herbal hops. Balanced bittersweet roasted/herbal hop bitter finish. Very smooth and creamy/silky mouthfeel. Spot on English style expectation. I love this stuff. Wish it was year round. Still on the shelf in some places, so I'll grab some more singles.

Incredible IPA as usual. Flavors of bright grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, lemon/orange peel, and pine hops; with honey/biscuit/light caramel malt; and floral/grassy hop earthiness. Medium pine/rind bitterness; balanced sticky/resins and light creaminess in the mouthfeel. Moderate dryness, highly drinkable, zero hop astringency. Classic juicy C hops with just enough malt character for bitterness balance. I love it. Bear Republic has been in my fridge constantly since they finally came back. I hope we see some of their specialty bombers soon. All of their year round 6 packs are fantastic beers.

Insane brown ale. Flavors of huge nutty medium roast coffee, milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, toasted brown bread, and light smoke/dark fruit; with some herbal/woody hop and coffee characteristics. Light herbal and roasted coffee bitterness; full-ish body creamy/silky mouthfeel, with some light sticky/chalky roast notes as well. Light dryness. One of the most coffee forward beers I've ever had for sure. Huge on fruity/nutty coffee complexity; and the base brown ale is spot on as well. Need to make sure and get more before it's gone. I hope it comes back next year as well.

Fantastic as usual. Big flavors of milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, molasses, toasted bread, cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, clove, ginger, anise, vanilla, and oak; with lighter notes of bourbon, toffee, and coffee. Some light-moderate roast bitterness and bourbon/oak spice on the finish. Nearly full bodied with balanced creaminess and sticky/chalky spice and roast character in the mouthfeel. This is one of my favorite variants so far. It is starting to mellow a bit to reveal more barrel character, but initially the spices did mask most of it. There is still some Stone Chai RIS around too, should probably pick more up.

Good morning BAs! Another day in scummy PA - cold, overcast, and damp - typical fall day!

Left over from last night, grossly disappointing. Ordered first on tap, it was so flat that I thought the keg was bad so I sent it back and got one in a bottle, sadly no difference. Recycled photo.
