Ok, the batch of beer is brewed, now I have the afternoon to enjoy beers and catch up with these posts that I have been neglecting. I did get in one more beer during the boil with a review, but I couldn't get a post together before having to do more work. So I will add it here and then do some reading!

The next beer up the Tired Hands ladder is Alien Church - and IPA with oats and "a bunch of [the brewer's] favorite varietals."

Pours a cloudy light yellow, Maybe a little more yellow than the D2H3. This one does get a fluffy head on an aggressive pour. On a moderate pour, there is still a nice little bit of fluff. Rgardless of the initial pour, in the end there is a thin surface-covering white sheath that thickens at the edges of the glass.

The nose is more muted on this beer than the previous. What I do get seem to be in the classic American IPA vein - grapefruit pith and pine.

The initial tastes followed the nose. I get the pine wood resin (the oat may be influencing my impression of the wood here). It takes a few sips to get hints of mango, passion fruit, grapefruit rind.

Spotty lacing is being left after a sip from the glass. I start to get the tropical notes on the nose, but also there is a reedy grass note that comes along as well. All of this is shrouded in a bitter veil, generating note like like the rinds unripe tropical fruits. Unlike the last beer, there is a bit of sweetness that joins the fruit notes to battle the hop notes (and not quite winning).

There is a stickiness to the beer as it passes my tongue, like it wants to hold onto my tongue longer than most beverages. This seems to remind me a tad of other oat beers I've had. Despite this, it stays fairly soft at the edges, like quite a few other cloudy IPAs I have had.

Nearing the end, the sweeter tropical fruit notes gain a bit of definition. In the end, the woody/reedy notes have a slightly coconut flavor and feel to them.

This beer was not as vibrant as I expected, especially early. Compared to the D2:H3 Galaxy I had just had, my first impressions were that I liked the APA better. I did enjoy the extra malt sweetness I got in this beer, but it seemed a little restrainted. But given time to open up, this began to grab my favor more and more. Definitely glad to have received this from @CanConPhilly, and I have one more to go!

Good afternoon to all the NBS faithful. Thanks to Maria for the great send off. I hope everyone is enjoying the heat and humidity as much as we are here in NH. My weather station shows 88* and 71% humidity right now and it is still in the shade.
We did a short 3 day semi beercation this week hit a lot of the VT breweries and then swung across NH and into ME. It was a good trip but traveling in hot weather with a large dog can be rather challenging.
It seems the gardens are hardy enough to survive without added water and some of the flowers are actually doing great. The morning glories seem to be real happy with the weather.
Now on to the reason we come here on Sunday is for the beer review. My new beer for this Sunday is from Burlington Beer Co. and is there Peach of Mind a Farmhouse Style Ale.
Poured from a 750ml bottle picked up at the brewery on Thursday. It pours a very hazy golden orange color in to my "tion" glass. To me this a great looking beer. The color and cloudiness and thin white head all just seem to fit this beer.
The nose is all about the fruit with lots of peach and plum blending well with the funk from the strain of yeast.
The taste is very smooth, lots of peach and plum with a nice mellow funk from the strain of yeast. Perhaps a mellow soft bready taste in the back of the mouth.
The mouth feel is soft and smooth not a lot of carbonation for this style beer. To me this is a good thing!
This is a well done beer in this style and a joy to drink on this hot day.

I'm hoping for some showers this afternoon as we still need a lot of rain in the area. but for now I'm going to relax under the awning on the deck and enjoy any breezes that may com through.

Friends, I am jumping the NBS bandwagon with DFH Immort Ale!! Mine is cellar aged for an year. Great start by Maria @utopiajane !!

What a complex 11 % ABV brew that is so true to its name and promise: Vast in character!
It's a beauty of a looker brewed with Maple syrup from Western Mass Maple syrup (Sam's family farm) with peat smoked barley, juniper berries and vanilla and then aged in oak.
She pours a deep mahogany red, almost copper red in color. The way the sunlight just reflects off of this brew reminds me of the richest Rubies found in India and Sri Lanka. Nice thick creamy head which lingers a few minutes.
She smells oh so boozy!! Layers of alcohol (hinting the guarantee to take to the promised land), caramel, toffee, vanilla and mild hints of smoke ( kind of like a few day old good smoked bbq)
Making my lips meet hers, I feel this sharp eastery and an alcohol tinge along with maple, vanilla, caramel and very faint hints of bitterness. What a complex beauty she is. Definitely need to take my time with her. Can't rush things. Letting her warm up a little more, the insular character seems to be fading. Oooh, she's turning into a fine sweet treat. Like a reward for something I have done yet to deserve.
Friends, I am going back to my favorite beer store and buying a 4 pack and putting it away for 4 years. Along with my 120 Mins and palo santo marrons.
This was a true treat. I am almost hallucinating of what if this was bourbon barrel aged (think of hints of coconut getting into it)
    Cheers.

    Greetings, fellow NBSers,

Had my coffee, and an epic breakfast burrito to boot, so I'm now ready for NBS.

It's mostly sunny and in the high 60s in the city where there's a high school baseball diamond named after the Hall of Fame Cub that used to play there, with a high of 93 expected.

NBSers that read my posts (aw, c'mon, there's gotta be at least one...) may recall that I said I'd be probably not be taking part today because I'd be camping. Well, that was the plan... My folks were going to drive up with their trailer to a campground outside Hunters, WA, from the town they live in on Friday morning and stake out a spot, from which, among other things, my Dad and I planned to do some kayaking on Lake Roosevelt. Me and my tent wouldn't be showing up until that night, as I had to work until 6:30 PM. Well, apparently they made it all the way to the vicinity of Fort Spokane (probably after about 3 hours pulling a camping trailer behind them) when some sort of electrical mayhem occurred. After getting towed back to Davenport, WA, and a mechanic, the problem was fixed around the time I was getting off work. Guessing at that point there's be no spots left in the campground on a Friday night, they elected to drive home in disgust.

    ...and that's why I didn't buy tickets to the Spokane Brewer's Festival.:slight_frown:
I suppose I could have gone on Saturday, but I'd filled up my gas tank with most of my discretionary cash for the trip out of town, plus I'd bought a canned sixer of No-Li's Big Juicy (one of the few IPAs my Dad has unequivocally liked), along with a couple cans of Orlison Pilsener 37 and a couple bottles of Duchesse De Bourgogne (my folks are wine people so I thought I'd introduce them to it and possibly convert them to beer people).

New beer during the week? I had a Cherry Sour from Iron Goat (mostly cherry, just a little tart), but didn't review as my phone was dead and yesterday drank a can of Fort George's Plaid that turned out to have been quite old, so old that what hops were present had entirely faded away, along with all carbonation.
I'll review it when I have a can that has a date on it and the date is promising.

Still have a couple big boys from @beertunes's recent box of Whatcom County goodness, and I might hit both of them today.

Patrice Munsel died earlier this month. She was born and raised in Spokane and attended the high school that's a couple blocks to the east of me before her Mother sent her off to NYC for voice lessons. Here she is on the Ed Sullivan show in 1962.

I really enjoyed that one as well. It seems like I enjoy the bombers of Ballast Point more than their 6 pack offerings. Weird.

Poured from a bomber with a blurred date stamp, but it was bottled June 28.

It is cloudy orange gold with a frothy dark cream colored head. It disappeared quick, but leaves a nice film on top.

Smells fruity with some orange/tangerine, fermented pineapple, and maybe some peach. Really sweet and malty.

It tastes very sweet throughout. Probably a bit too much. Lots of sugar. There is mandarin oranges with a little rind, apricot, pineapple, bitter pine, and a bunch of floral hops that I didn't really notice in the aroma. Also, I swear there is a little banana. A decent bitterness that lingers, but not enough to balance out the sweetness.

The body has a very silky/velvet like feel. The advertised lactose sugar wasn't hidden in the flavor for me, but if you didn't notice it there, you will here. It feels like a milk stout. It finishes with a bit of spicy hop kick.

A very unique beer. While it is very good and I am glad I bought it, I doubt I would buy another one at $12

Glad you reviewed this as it showed me that, while I've had most of a six pack of this beer, I forgot to review it. Although I did post about it in another thread, I need to remedy my lack of a review (I think I still have one left).

Nice! I am hoping the day yields some interesting results and conversations .

Really enjoyed the Empress review and the recommendation to all on the gruit.

Uncharted Territory an India Pale Lager from Magnify Brewing. This beer is fermented and aged in an Oak Foeder, is rated at 6.5 and is loaded with Citra Hops. Had this at the brewery. It pour a golden orange color with a thick white head that stays around. The aroma is you guessed it Citra hops. There is a nice malt with a touch of oak but the flavor is also mostly Citra. I enjoyed this beer a lot it's one of the best of the Magnify brews. Hoppy Lagers are a style that I don't know what to make of. It seems there is not much lagerish about them. Anyway Magnify now has an Oktoberfest in that oak tank. Looking forward to trying that.

I have a few big hitters today to enjoy the Olympics, Giants baseball, and my 49ers (which will be bad). This Hill Farmstead dry-hopped pale ale is bordering between farmhouse ale, sour, and a Saison. It's pretty unique. It's balanced and sweet. Tart may be a better word. Very easy to drink.

Thanks! Your idea sounds like it could be useful. Maybe a part of it could be a place to post a beer you are having during the week that you tried (or re-tried) because of an NBS post that week? Not sure if it need be a new thread each week, but maybe have it as more of an ongoing thread until it becomes too cumbersome, then start a new one?

I really enjoyed this beer, though I have had mine all within this latest year's release. I cannot wait until it gets released again, and I'll have to see if I can find the patience to cellar a couple.

Greetings fellow NBSers. I have a beer I have really been looking forward to for today, but not sure I will be able to join. Back in the day I could handle working outside in heat like this but this weekend kicked my ass. I feel like a good steak, well seared with high heat on both sides yesterday, and cooked through today. Polished off almost a gallon of water and 2 quarts gatorade this weekend. I always appreciate my neighbors for recycling in any weather, but I would have been just as appreciative if they would have put it off for better weather.

Really enjoying reading all your posts, maybe see you in a bit.

    What's up BA?

Being Sunday, surely it's time for a new beer, and today's selection is Stone's 20th anniversary Citracado.

It pours darker than I was expecting. Rich golden brown with some redish hues.

Aroma and flavor wise, there is a nice blend of tropical citrus, resinous pine, and some herbal notes with a vegetable quality to them.

Maybe it's the name, but I'm almost getting something like guacamole hanging around in the back.

Overall, very enjoyable beer. Might need to pick up another bottle before they disappear.

Pours a hazy golden color with a large head and lots of carbonation. The head dissipates quickly but there is a lot of lacing left behind.

The smell is full of bananas, coriander, bubble gum and lots of wheat sweetness. There is some citrus in there, maybe tangerine.

The taste follows the nose with lots of banana, wheat, light bready malts and citrus. There is some light hopping on the back end and the finish is both creamy and slightly dry.
Overall, though this is not the best Hefe-Weisen, it is very good for a low-alcohol type beer.
